@Sophia-cm1cr5 жыл бұрын
Ollie is the type of person that needs patience and positive reinforcement even if he’s struggling with the language. Sometimes, Josh has this look that seems to discourage Ollie so I feel like Ollie just blanks out. I hope he feels more confident eventually. Josh is good but it does take certain people to teach without getting annoyed cause it’s hard to hold yourself back when you know the answer.
@lilibreeze5 жыл бұрын
The problem is, Josh speaks Korean sooooo well. Maybe too well for Ollie. Actually he does better than some native Koreans in a sense since it's his major. So Ollie might have given up a bit and left the mission in Josh's charge so far 😂
@KZ-hu9uj5 жыл бұрын
Well Ollie doesnt study every day I don’t think. He does try but not on the level that somebody truly studying a language would be working, which is totally understandable because he’s a busy guy of course with other priorities.
@Kasiarzynka5 жыл бұрын
@@KZ-hu9uj Yes but on the other hand, one has to admit that his spoken Korean is better than spoken foreign language of probably most students in most countries, not even mentioning second foreign language. Also I agree with Sophia L. + Ollie seems to be one of these people who learn by speaking. He is highly motivated to have a conversation (he seems to be highly social and outgoing personality in general so it is quite undestandable). Also getting to use your language skills in actual native speaker context (like talking to them, or reading/listening to stuff made by and for natives) is just motivating in general and obviously more interesting than filling in gaps in some text book. And interesting stuff not only keeps motivating us but also helps maintain our determination. I'm pretty sure that after this experience, next time they are in Korea, Ollie will be speaking again, learning new words and phrasing, building up both his language skills and his motivation.

Maybe leave him with limited funds but no money at all was too risky and not ok in my opinion.

I agree and bringing up to Josh how Ollie got frustrated at him interrupting him just shows how much Dave wants him to succeed and do better and that even though Dave looks like he’s annoyed when Ollie messes up or forgets it’s because he knows he can do it. I love that Josh has been helping Ollie, but as a teacher he NEEDS to know that his student will only ever thrive when his teacher believes that he can. A teacher’s true and steady belief in their student’s ability to improve and do so in broadening ways is integral to that student’s growth. Basically in order for Ollie to be excellent, Josh has to act in accordance with the belief that he already has the potential to be that.

keonewstuff maybe stop calling him an idiot all the time? I LOVE all of their stuff on both channels but every single time Josh says “you’re an idiot” to Ollie it kills me a bit more. 🙁 Maybe it’s used different in UK than US? In my experience that’s a really demeaning and hurtful thing to say to someone. Maybe I’m taking it wrong though cause they laugh most times when he says it? I dunno. Just breaks my heart cause Ollie is Not an idiot. He seems wicked smart and he is SO funny and he’s absolutely adorable and is just a total sweetheart who is trying SO hard and his best friend in the world is constantly tearing him down by saying he’s an idiot!!

pinkfluffydino I kinda agree with you that it would be good to see Josh encourage Ollie a little more, but when he called him an idiot it’s not actually him saying he thinks Ollie is stupid. I think in some ways it’s quite an English way of actually showing affection to insult your friends. Josh never calls Ollie and idiot if just he makes a silly mistake or anything but when he’s acting in a silly way - when he makes dumb jokes or has done something silly on purpose. At least that is the impression I get but I may be wrong. Again I think that it’s an English thing though I have no idea why we do this.

Koreans love when foreigners are learning Korean. For me personally no matter how much I see it it still blows my mind. When I was little growing up in America people didn't even know what Korea was, or they'd ask if I'm from North or South (because all they know is that there's two). We had a culture day, brought kimchi and people wouldn't eat it, we'd just take them outside to have a whiff. One time I brought bulgogi and kids said it looked like poo. But now those are two of the most famous Korean foods. I'm very happy.

Exams suck. Ask me the same question any other time and I'll give you an answer immediately, but the moment I sit down to do an exam, my ADHD strikes, and it strikes hard. Although to be fair, I have an easy time learning things in general, so my ADHD didn't actually make me fail all that much. The most memorable would be this one time where we had to write something based on the keyword being "affect". Me being me, I start thinking about loads of things that affect us, basically turning it philosophical. "What doesn't affect us? Does such a thing even exist?" I left without having written anything besides my name. I later told the teacher that I can't do something that open-ended, since I don't know where to begin. As you might imagine, the teacher was extremely shocked that I turned in a blank paper, because at this point you should've noticed that I have no issues with just throwing words out, and my grammar is really good although not perfect. My teacher knew that, so she thought it'd be easy for me. I wonder if there's anyone out there who can relate to this situation. There should be quite a few, but I wonder how many will read this.
