The movement seems to be smooth. No bashing like other hulls. TOP!!!!!

Talisman delivers in heavy seas. Not quite as fast as the lighter race oriented boats, but she never slams.

Always a pleasure to watch. I will give you 10/10 for casting off - I would still be in Spain eating Tapas and drinking beer waiting for a more pleasant weather window myself! On a practical note. The fuel in the med is very variable in its purity and I have seen many boats get into trouble because the engine quits (clogged up by bad fuel) in rough weather that stirs up the muck from the bottom of the tank. A good filter/water separator with a clear bowl is a good investment in these parts.

Thanks Alenka. Indeed. A lot of the fuel problems stem from biological "bugs" in the diesel. I've been using Starbrite Enzyme diesel additive, which while it won't cure the problem after the fact will prevent growth on the front side. We have big, clear access ports on our tanks and I can see the bottom of the grey painted fiberglass tanks and the fuel has always looked clear to the eye. The boat came from Scotland, which is cold weather and no diesel bugs, but the Med and Caribbean are a different story. I'm always a bit suspect of additives, but have noticed a huge improvement in the performance of our Yanmar turbo diesel. Less smoke, better fuel economy and I suspect carbon blown out. I also use Stabil in the dinghy fuel, which has been a great product that we've used for years in the US.

Exciting to take yourselves into the Mediterranean I am sure! I am enjoying your vlog. :)

Thanks David. It's really something and the experience is delivering on every expectation. A bit of rough sailing recently, but fun and rewarding to do it and have the boat perform well.

I use to take of my anchor from the chain and stove it below during long multi-day crossings with bad weather, gives me more peace of mind. For shorter crossings with bad weather I wrap the chain a couple of turns around the anchor winch and tie it down with a rope so it never can come of. Getting the anchor chain into the propeller could be a major problem in rough weather.

Yeah, we have ours lashed down pretty tight now, but the chain did have a tendency to slip a notch in the windlass. Dropping the chain while under way would be bad.

Thanks Conan. It's so hard to predict what people want. We try to mix it up with something for everyone, but in the end I think we're trying to show as much of an unvarnished look at the cruising life as we can.

Come on Kevin. It should be illegal to have that much fun on a boat. :-)

A safety pin in the anchor and track?
@SailingTalisman5 жыл бұрын
We use a tether to hold the anchor in place as a safety line. The guy on Cloud Bay made wooden shims for the shank of his anchor, and I'd like to do the same at some point.

Well we've certainly put the wood to her. Can't say enough about the stability and feeling of safety. Speed isn't what the light production boats see, but we do 9+ knots on a regular basis. We have a bad speed transducer so only seeing speed over ground (via GPS) with no speed through water, but we have a new transducer that just arrived from the US and we'll see how things look once I get around to installing. As always, thanks for watching and we're so happy to have you.
