Appreciate you guys having differing points of view on the podcast! The whole "Baseball with a string" or "Semi pulling a trailer" are great analogies for FOC but they are almost always used in a manner that highlights the advantages of the setup without acknowledging the obvious disadvantages. The greatest force propelling an arrow comes from behind it not in front. The notion that a broadhead pulls an arrow makes for a good image but that's just not how physics works unless that broadhead has an engine and propeller... Now, imagine trying to throw that baseball by the string end or driving that semi from the rear end of the tractor trailer. It would be a pain. Well that is what steering a high FOC arrow is like. These setups have advantages but they are also much more difficult to tune than a balanced setup. Like every piece of gear in archery there is a give and take.

The mass at the front will not want to move as fast as the lighter rear, which is why the arrow will flex at the shot, but once the arrow recovers, the entire arrow would be traveling at the same speed.

I need to find people here in Alaska that understand and know how to build high foc arrows. Shipping and handling to Alaska is outrageous. Excellent podcast!

I know it's been 2 years but If you learn how to bare shaft tune you can build yourself some gnarly arrows for those hard targets you have up there. It won't save you on shipping but it you'll be able to buy components separately and save that way. Then you'll be able to build a ton of them for the same money and tune them exactly to you and your bow. I've been a gold tip user because they make it so easy. Their weighted inserts fit their shafts really well so you can get good results without needing to square and spin arrows perfectly right away. I cut mine with a dremel and my broadheads still group. Thay also have a good weight system that's decent and doesn't require a fortune like Ethics since you're trying to keep costs down. Lots of fun to play with those weights and getting your bow to throw death star lasers without any vanes.

Great podcast! Please do a podcast on lighted nocks. Glory nocks vs nocturnals vs firenock vs lumanock and etc. I really find it difficult selecting a good quality lighted nock for the 4mm shafts.

I think that shooting the Valkyrie system isn't doing it justice w/o the Centerpin. 2 years ago I was shooting a 517 grain arrow. 62 lbs. with a 30" draw going 265 fps. Blazers r durable but they aren't low profile enough. The Bohning X3 2.25" in a 4 fletch pattern has been gold for me. If I can shoot straight @ every distance & not pull or push shots I'm good. Timing the shot to the swing on the leg can play a big part between a short & a long bloodtrail also.

"coast to coast" broadhead cutting, yikes. That's such a good way of putting the question: Won't a super sharp medium sized razor blade cause more cut surface area than a 2 inch kinda sharp blade raking and tugging its way through guts?

Brent, after the f'n A conversation which is pretty widely used where I come from I had to bring it up at work. As far as I know there is no meaning to the A and others all agreed. That's it lol. If you were to pronounce the A word it would also sound funny. Cant over think it or you'll fell too rediculous to even say it I guess.😂 just let it flow. Great podcast guys. I'm now the proud owner of some x-impacts with the focos system. They hit hard!! probably going to try the rampage with this outsert system as well for a slight bump in overall gpi.

Great podcast! Pretty frustrating when I drove 5hrs one way to go to a shop and they say the "FOC fad is just a podcast gimmick to sell product and it makes no difference for a shooter like me with a short draw length". I'd drive to UT if it wasn't a 13hr drive. As a former javelin thrower I completely agree with a balanced high FOC. Guess I'll order online. As for your comment on shopping- Nailed it!

Finally, somebody mentions the javelin. Always noticed as a kid that the guy throwing the best javelin got extra distance from hangtime but that the javelin didn't drop to the ground like an arrow being dropped from a tree stand but it kept going as the trajectory flattened out gradually. That's how I feel about a 20% FOC build with no half measures.

OMG I laughed so hard. I hate Costco. Not the store but the crowds of people trying to get free food from the samples. I leave ready to fight. I'm trying to get in and out and hate that they just stand there like they haven't eaten in weeks.

Man, I've been shooting the Bohning Heat vanes since they came out and in MY experience, hands down the best vane out there. THEN........now that the Arizona EZ fletch has a 3" arm with the 6° helical, holy cow!! Fricken laser beams out to 100yds all day, even with big nasty fixed blade broadheads. Well done Gritty, great show.
