2 blocks from my house on main st there's a used car dealership. They put a white 2009 chevy trailblazer on the lot with 220k miles on it. It sold in 3 days for $9800 and has not been repossessed yet. Stunning....just stunning. Not just cars. Houses in my area were $30k pre covid are now around $100k i guess the smaller homes are really jacked up. Why? Because they can.... I rent an 750sq ft house for $1000 per month. I'm looking for a 16 to 18 foot bumper pull rv. I lived in one before so know how to live in one comfortably. Something has to give somewhere. People are getting fed up.

The pricing on cars hasn’t really changed in over 50 years. They’ve always been expensive even when they were “cheap”. I have a 53 year old mustang my father bought brand new. Costed him 3.3k and change or as he told me roughly 2 years wages at the time for someone on the low end of the income spectrum. If I look at a new mustang same trim and everything what do you know once again roughly 2 years wages for someone making minimum wage in my state. The prices went up nominally key nominally because those dollars inflate every year and that inflation compounds. Sticking to the mustang example, considering they cost about the same as 50+ years ago and the advancements in safety, ride comfort, quality and performance it’s actually a pretty good value over the vintage one when it rolled off the factory line. And on the depreciation bit…most people don’t ride out the depreciation and keep a car for 25+ years to see the appreciation. I bought several used cars over the last decade at the 15 year old sweet spot and have reaped the appreciation as they become neoclassics.

@@Bonanzaking only thing I could argue with is the quality of the new ones requiring so much more maintenance it seems or atleast more expensive, ac on my accord was gonna cost me 1300 bucks so says the dealership lol cars barely worth 4k

@@RuebenLuna the more maintenance bit is something of an illusion. I’d point at the old mustang. 5 digit odometer, engine REQUIRES a rebuild at 100k or just before just like most cars of the period. A newer mustang can safely do 250k+ assuming you don’t blow it up racing long before that. A lot of other maintenance items remain the same like fluid changes. Brakes are a hell of a lot better and last longer than early disc brakes. My father was a a mechanic since 1966, retired in 2020. Thanks to him I got a general idea of the cost of repairs and cost of vehicles over time in addition to being taught how to wrench on a car. Not much has changed. People would forego fixing an AC since pretty much always because the cost. A large chunk of which is the rising price of refrigerant as they type used is changed every few years. I remember as a child in the late 90’s and 2000’s hearing adults complain about modern cars(90’s-2000’s) saying the quality was worse and that they were disposable. Now a lot of us revere those cars and point to them as something that will last and being something of quality much the way the boomers used to point at their classic cars, and the generation before them looked at previous classic cars. It’s all a cycle. Give another decade or 2 and younger generations will point at our modern cars in much the same way.

I also like japanese cars, few problems. Why don't you move closer to your work or perhaps find a new one? 2 hours everyday is too much. Your life will improve a lot

@@TarsusDante that’s the hope over 250 hours saved a year just in driving. Moving closer just causes my expenses to go way up rent for my two bedroom is 500 bucks rent near where I work for 2 bed is around 13-1400
