I see here the problem. 1) education in India is just memorizing. No skill development to apply learned things to solve problem. 2) Students want success instantly, want degree but not putting enough effort to understand concept, develop concept by linking the chain of though and fundamental concepts. 2) No proper soft skill development like organizational skill, communication skill, proper planning, proper execution, being visionary or capability to see things in larger and micro perspective. 3) Industry not telling exactly what skill they need.4) the most important thing is reservation. If you hire and employ low quality. Teachers and professors then what they are going to teach? The biggest blunder of Indian government and politics was to have reservation in teaching. This is killing the education system of India in terms of quality output from students.

When minister says graduates of country is unemployeable, government should think, when there education minister should resign. No one stopes government's to invest in education, but no government want to put money for education.

Mediocrity is institutionalised in India. When reservations were introduced in teaching and admissions, the downfall of educational standards has started. Indian universities produce unemployable armies of graduates. Money and quota caste are a formidable combination to manipulate the system. Recent fraudulent IAS case is just an example.

Quota is one dimension, but is acrually not the major problem in faculty mediocrity. There are much larger reasons as well. Without quota, performance hardly would improve by 10%, but problem would still exist largely. This needs serious reforms, work on grassroots level education, only removing Quota also won't help. P.s- I am a Brahmin by name not reserved category guy supporting anyone or quota here.

Forget about unemployable youths for a moment. Employed individuals are finding it hard to keep their jobs because everyday they have to think about one or more of the following: electricity, Gas, roads, vultures in the govt. offices delaying things because one didnt go thru “agents” who will grease their palms… 70 years rule by babus has made this country very corrupt to the core. The current govt is not trying hard to undo that but the measures are not good enough. For the taxes one is paying he/she is not getting anything in return.

Our Indian Graduates, many of them are very well employable, very Hardworking, sincere to their efforts and achieving great things all around the world. They only need a pat on the back and a lifting hand to mould them in the required skillset. Just look around how the World is utilizing their tenacity and talent for a fraction of the price they pay to the locals there. Its our Govt's policies and Tight clutch of the Feudal Lords killing their dreams and ambitions repeatedly. In India, capable PhD candidates and Engineers are filtered by mediocre 3rd grade HRs who are concerned about cutting costs and pleasing the Lala. The old Business Lalas themselves are greedy to the core and barely care beyond short term profits. Everybody knows of a SIMPLE businessman always preaching 70 Hrs work in his sweatshops while paying pennies to employees.

@@ay9523 if one or two graduates are unemployable , it is a failure of the individual. But if almost more than 50% of the graduates are unemployable, then it is the failure of the education system and the failure of the country itself. Don't put blame on the youth. The government (all the parties) is incapable. Because they cannot control the population. Even if the population is increasing they cannot provide jobs like in China.

Problem starts at the root, it's the way we get educated and who is educating, teachers are not skilled, lack leadership and are not responsible at all. Politicians are owning educational institutes, and treat them as business, cause obviously they don't know the importance of being educated. Unemployment is a big issue and the bigger issue is the bad attitude these kids are learning just to survive. Check any IT company or manufacturing unit. There is a struggle to fill positions, because they don't get right people. Why do more and more students go to other countries to study, even though our GDP may be better, cause children study nothing here, other than cramming, saddest is when they get frustrated and commit suicide. Hope the government is not waiting for more escalations to take action.

All graduates are unemployable until they have built up some experience (say 1 to 3 years). I just have one question Who decides the curriculum Students Parents Teacher Or the all mighty government If your education system is producing "unemployable" graduates what on the earth is stopping the government from revising the curriculum and aligning it with the requirements of the market ? The Government through its various departments and agencies decides what will be taught and by whom it will be taught and where it will be taught They have complete power to regulate education in india as well as the education institutes and it's their responsibility to rectify this situation . But it appears as though they are once again back to Victim blaming strategy.

skill is not the problem, salary is the problem because private sector MNCs exploit freshers by hiring them for 14k to 18k salary, hence the youths are avoiding private jobs and aiming for govt jobs. Most students study in Private colleges where teachers are poorly skilled (poorly paid ) in teaching valuable life skills. Besides students do rote learning even in college to get marks. One year of doing a project/apprenticeship in the last year of college doesn't help them. Projects/apprenticeships should start right from the college's 1st year leading up to various skill sets before even hitting the job market.
