Excellent video Marianne.....I owned "Silverwells" in Main St Kangaroo Pt from 1992 until 2005.....built when Qld was still NSW....Georgian proportions.....likely built in 1856--60......with Ashlar walls in hallway....I fully restored it to almost the original fabric but sadly, the interior has been ravaged beyond recognition, with beautiful shellacked baltic pine floors and hand-painted nails ...WHITE WASHED by developer !!!! I know that building well! Was part of the restoration approvals team many years ago. Sad to hear it’s since been whitewashed 😢

Love your work! The Gympie house, and Newstead House both look like a house that my uncle was staying in during the early 70s(?). It was a substantial home with a servants home at the rear on a large acreage somewhere around Ascot, Hamilton, Eagle Farm way. I only ever saw it at night, sadly...and I was only about 8 years old at the time, which I guess shows why I like your videos. I've been fascinated by old hones and buildings since then. Anyway, apparently, a fire ripped through the place, and the home and outbuildings were demolished. All I know from listening to mum and dad as they chatted with my uncle that night in the house was that it too was built by a well to do surgeon or professional back in the day. They spoke of it as being as important as Newstead House.

Beautiful houses! Lady Mary mine was named for Lady Mary Fitzroy. There is a statue of her on Main Street to honor her. 😊

Hi, I love the work you do. I understand if you decline episode requests from viewers although if you are interested a house I commute past has come up for sale so my mum my partner and myself thought we’d go for an inspection for fun. Absolutely beautiful old home lots of character. 15 Hillside Crescent, Hamilton. The house street frontage is on Kingsford Smith Drive. If a house you’ve been eyeing off for some time comes up for sale do you go to the inspection?
@thehousedetective6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! I don’t do requests at the moment as I have a massive backlog list of places I want to cover, but thanks for the tip! That house is amazing- I just had a look!!! Heck yes I go to open homes for houses I’m interested in! Always love having a good old sticky beak!

I was fortunate to be able to do major renovation work on the house across the street, 16 Hillside Cres Hamilton, in 1997. It too would definatley be worth doing a video on Amazing quality work for Brsbane at time built, and believe it was owned by a lady who gave her nephews the funds to start or buy XXXX.brewery . Nick Papas the famous hairdresser and his wife owned it when we worked there, but theyhave sold it since

I am a pest control tech who has worked in the same industry, within the greater Brisbane area since 1985. I started with Flick in at Gould road Herston and as you could imagine, I have been privileged to work on some of the oldest, as well as some of the notable houses of earlier Brisbane. I'm not sure whether I can do much but I feel we should at least have a chat, if for nothing else but to tease out a few memories, possibly adding an unusual dimension to some houses stories. PM me if you think I may be of any help.

Hello Marianne yes my name is Leonie I'd like to know where my grandmother's house at 38 Birdwood Avenue Dandenong Vic was a 1920s California bungalow it was taken away 19 74 to the country. George Herbert Hunter 1932_1974
@thehousedetective6 ай бұрын
Hi Leonie, I’d be happy to look into it for you, but as I said in the video, relocated houses are very hard to trace normally. Send me an email at info@housedetective.com.au and I’ll be happy to chat more.

Not enough pictures of these lovely houses - maybe from different dates or angles. We understand the difficulty of research but do not need it explained at such length. Houses in Brisbane, Warwick and Toowoomba still have good houses for removal and restumping.

Thanks Jenny, good point about the photos! Will do next time. I didn’t have a lot of photos of these though as I didn’t visit them. But I love looking at photos of houses too so I get it!

😂 ok point taken! I didn’t have a lot of photos of these because I didn’t visit most of them, but you’re right, I definitely could have shown more or shown the ones I did have for longer. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it as I’m very new to this KZbin business 😂
