Enjoyed the video. I earned my ppl back in 2003 but haven't flown in over a decade. Starting to get back into it and reviewing your videos are really helpful. I recall the first time I called flight service during training the briefer spoke way too fast. I told him I was a student and asked him to speak slower. He was a real jerk made some nasty comment about how I'd better get used to it, and that negative experience lasts until this day. I never called flight service again opting to get my weather from the official internet sites. Glad to see (and hear) not all weather briefers are jerks.

Also this is a really cool service. I feel like/think that for whatever reason, aviation is one thing (amongst others) that our federal government does right. From the FAA to the NTSB and so on.

Glad you make these videos cuz no one ever goes over stuff like this with me lol.

I'm just a student pilot but @ 5:20 I think the weather briefer said 230 at 11, not 030 at 11. Just felt a compulsive need to point that out. :)

Scariest part of flying is this and having to talk over the radios.
@sassychimpanzee74316 жыл бұрын
You'll quickly get comfortable talking on the radio
@notafanboy2505 жыл бұрын
I used to be terrified of speaking on the radios or talking to FSS. You do quickly get used to it. Oddly enough, I still don't feel comfortable with public speaking etc but radios are zero problems for me now.

@@notafanboy250 I am currently studying for the private pilot exam and will start flight school in like 3 months. I am scared to talk over radio as well. How long did it take you to adjust?

@@ayonsaha7963 I don't recall exactly but I would say right around the time I started my instrument rating so maybe 3 months or so.

This is 5 years old, but so what? What if you're a "road follower" who hardly ever goes direct from point to point? A typical flight of mine would have lots of shallow turns between short straight segments, and lots of waypoints that briefers won't ever know about, like a certain highway junction, or a wind turbine farm. How would you describe a route like that to a briefer?
@BatistaProductions5 жыл бұрын
How far in advance would you call the weather brief if you’re planning a flight? Is 48 hours too soon?
@thebeginner40745 жыл бұрын
The earliest weather report is only 6 hours in advance.
@Ichibuns5 жыл бұрын
A standard briefing will only go 6 hours out. Anything past that is an outlook. You can get one but would still be required to have the information in the standard when the time comes. An abbreviated is great for when you already got a standard but were delayed a few hours and would like an update on the weather

There is a mistake at 5:24. The wind should be 230 @11kts

Can a simulator pilot use this service, at least for an abbreviated area or route briefing? Or would that be a massive waste of time of the people working there?
@calebbyers Жыл бұрын
Good question. It might very well be a waste of time for the people there, but it might be good to get used to talking to them on the phone before you get into the real flying environment.
