Very interesting and thanks for the video. As a sound mixer, having a fan that is consistent is better then having a fan that'll randomly turn on. That's why we try to turn off HVAC systems at houses and end up looking like the evil ones. Of course the quieter the better, but the real issue comes when using more lights with fans, the higher potential for signal to noise issues. I love that you're making videos again and also not in front of the green screen. I've learned so much about the industry thanks to your videos. Keep them coming.

As for the Yongnuo light wand...yup! I gaffed on several episodes of Food Paradise, and we had 3-4 of those light wands. They were amazing for the price, and that made me seriously consider buying a couple.

Great review as always Dave. You do the best deep dives into grip and lighting gear. Extra props for all the Bernie memes!

Fantastic video, Dave. Really enjoyed seeing the opinion of a working professional about these new budget lights from Aputure.

Someone nudge Bernie, maybe he's just chilling contemplating the class struggle, but I'm a little worried that he hasn't moved or talked about growing wealth inequality for a while...

How about doing a colour spectrum test on these lights? I've had problems with other LED lights having holes/gaps in their colour spectrum (Godox) showing a poor rendition of some colours. The problem in product photography is so bad that I've gone back to strobes. BTW Battery power Rules...

I actually see the plastic build as a win, Im planning on getting these because they are light. Fullstop. In New Zealand, where I live and film, our main airline has a bag weight limit of 23kgs a piece and a limit (without massive costs) of 3 bags so my entire kit has to travel in 3 bags of no more than 23kgs (generally one for camera, one for grip and one for lighting). I want at least one semi-powerful light in my kit which is a light that currently weighs 7kgs all up. Replacing it with a light that weighs just under 4 kgs gives me 3kgs extra... that's another light stand and a griphead... or a bunch of things I may need. Im not worried about the plastic as i'm easy on my gear and it always travels in padded cases. Ive had an Aputure 672 panel (also made of plastic) in my kit for 6 years and its still as good as new.

I'm just waiting for the first fan replacement hack video to come out, then I'm swapping out the fan on my 200x. It's cheap enough that I don't mind voiding the warranty.

Very faintly you’ll hear it with a shotgun mic, with a lav no

With all the Aputure lights, it's tough to decide which to go with. Which would you say is the most versatile (i.e. can be used in multiple ways)?

Even though it doesn’t have the power of the others, I’d say the 300x or 60x. Bi-color is great to have by itself.

Where did you see an option to choose the reflector? I got the 200d and I haven't seen anything about choosing the reflector, it just came with the hyper.

Have you updated the firmware on the 200d and if so how much quieter is it now?

I couldn’t tell you on a db level but it seems a bit quieter

@@GripTips I've got a pair of 100d's but I think I'm gonna send one back and get a 200d. I just need a tad more lighting to get that high key look I want.

I really wanna buy this light but it there any way of powering them by battery
@GripTips3 жыл бұрын
yep, so aputure has their Power station releasing at some point and it will be able to power off of two v-mounts. Or theres battery banks like the one Anton bauer makes where theres a 3 pin XLR port.

Wondering about the intensity versus say.. a Joker 400? For the cost of a couple of days of rental, I could buy this... Then break it and try again...

A shot gun mic is so different to a lav. Anything that isn't silent especially low power sources is bad news for sound.

I wish the useless hyper reflector would go away. A normal 55-60 degrees reflector is useful I see this being popular on travel kits and small commercial shots in addition to YT. Yeah if I was going to hand a light off to a crew 100% it would be something from the main Aputure brand. But if it’s just me and my assistant I can trust that it will last long enough to pay for itself.
