Barry, your storytelling is so fine, you should consider gathering them in a book, along with the photos of the restorations. A book of craft and memories, so to speak. It would be so nice to have a printed version of your channel! Best wishes from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

WOW! That grandfather clock is beautiful! You can see the loving care you took in restoring it to its former glory. Your narrative brought back many memories of my own childhood and my grandparents. It reminded me of the huge dining room table that I sat at on top of several big Sears Roebuck catalogs to eat at the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas, my grandmother’s wringer washer in the basement that I used to catch the socks as they came through and her mangle ironer she would sit at to iron clothes. I also remember the Jockey Cycle I used to ride up and down the sidewalk, picking blackberries for grandma to make jam...just so much came flooding back. I’m 74 now and I hope I’ve left many happy memories for my own grandchildren.

It is nearing it's 100th birthday as I am 73 and as I stated earlier, my Dad made it in high school shop class, at the same high school his only grandchild, my daughter, and his only 2 great-grandchildren, my 2 granddaughters also graduated from💙💝💝💝

You are pretty inspirational yourself Barry. Not just for your passion and skill in restoring these beautiful pieces but for your empathy and compassion that you can relate to the owners and users of these treasures. As you rightly point out, items can become the memories of the special people we’ve lost. Nearly everything in my home has a story behind it. Now, after losing grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and most sadly, my daughter, my treasures have become my conduit to these loved ones. I feel my family and friends are around me, on every wall, in every corner, behind every door, and it’s like being enveloped in a huge loving hug. Sometimes they make me smile, sometimes they make me laugh, and then sometimes I can’t help but have a really good cry. They are all there, all beside me, each every one of the special people who were in my life, and for that I am grateful 🙏. Thank you for sharing this family’s story. It made me happy for them that they have such beautiful things to carry on this talented man’s memory. You have done the clock and the family justice. God bless Barry xx

Oh my….what a beautiful story. And the family will enjoy his clock being so wonderfully restored. Hard on my heart as my dad is 91…..and this video reminds me of that as well as reminds me that I have two pieces of furniture that he made when he was in high school. He didn’t keep that up but he would take me to work with him sometimes when he delivered auto parts to people and businesses. Just me and my dad. He was a volunteer fireman for as long as I can remember and then was hired as the 3rd paid man as it still was a volunteer Dept for quite some years. Us fire brats did a ton of volunteer work and loved it. Great memories…. His mom lived to almost 103 so hopefully he has more years here. But yep. I will be grateful of things I have that will always remind me of him.

Such peace you bring to my soul, Barry. My dad made me a photo album from scrap pieces of wood, some he had to find from other people & places, & it is unique & beautiful, like a checker board. I could go on & on with all my memories of my Poppy & Nanny with who I spent every minute I could but I will share just two … the smell of the motorcycle shop they owned where I spent every possible minute (to me, the smell of premix is love lol) & the smell of the oatmeal Nanny made for me every time I stayed with them. I have that pan today ❤❤❤❤❤

I've always enjoyed your videos from the very first one. I have seen your journey through the journeys that you tell as you're working on a piece. I have family piece of myself that were made by my great-great-great-grandfather and also my grandfather. I have a blanket chest made by my great great grandfather that my great-grandmother was placed in when she was born and they were crossing the Appalachian mountains in a covered wagon on their way to be Hoosier pioneers. On the last of my family and the one to pass these memories along to. Always looking forward to one of your fantastic videos thanks for sharing so much.

Besides your craftmanship your storytelling is mesmerizing. As you were telling the story it brought back a 'smell' memory most precious to me. My father was a very heavy smoker. He died of lung cancer at the age of 65 forty two years ago, Every once in awhile I get a whiff of the smell of tobacco embedded in his clothes as I hugged him. It wasn't a bad smell. It was a comforting smell. I miss those hugs. I miss my dad.

To me a shaker style grandfather clock is rather timeless in the lines are so clean and let the wood speak for itself. Not having the weights and pulls in this clock also makes it more contemporary. The new finish really allowed the grain to come alive . Another great episode Barry, thanks for sharing.

You talked about memories of family and food. My whole family was Italian, I was born in 1953 and my earliest memories are of my mother, both grandmother's, a great aunt and two great great aunts in the kitchen weeks before Thanksgiving making over a hundred dozen ravioli by hand. Those memories won't go away and I feel sorry for people who have never had family memories like that !!!!

Your stories have brought back many memories of me growing up. I picked up a new hobby when I quit work and started quilting. I’ve made quilts for everyone in my family as well as close friends (king size quilts) I made one for my dying sister and when I gave it to her I said when you’re feeling down just wrap yourself in this quilt and know I’ve giving you a hug. She passed a year ago June 15th 2023, 2 weeks before that my brother passed away, both from cancer. I hope my quilts bring the warmth love and happiness.
