Great tutorial and great looking fly. I'm just starting tying and will give this a shot. By using different colors and trimming to different shapes this technique could be be used as a base to produce almost endless bait fish varieties.

Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yes absolutely that’s right. Any color pattern you want. You could even get colored sharpies and color parts to different colors. I’ve tied this same style fly in many color combos on the channel, and many more for personal use.

Hey btw, if your just starting I’m guessing you don’t have UV resin which is super helpful in making flies more durable. I use it in probably 75% of my fly patterns. But it’s expensive. Here is what I use, and I found some great deals on the light and resin packs. The light is very good quality for way less than you will find that quality anywhere and the resin is the same stuff I use (just in smaller package that will get you started). Light: amzn.to/2WbytQP. Resin assortment: amzn.to/39OTFA8

Thanks for this video! I've been watching alot of stuff trying to learn some baitfish patterns and most seem to be super complex. So far this one seems to be the most simple and easy to tie that I've seen. I've got a handful of acrylic yarn colors to brush out and use. I'm not a saltwater fisherman so bass will more than likely be my target. I'm excited to experiment with these type pf patterns! Thanks again! Mark

This isn't the easiest to tie honestly... Here is one that I think will be easier. Also pretty effective for bass. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYrVfnanlsiYoqs

McFly Angler Thanks for the help! I'm still going to give these style of flys a try I think. But I also have a bag of rabbit fur to try the fly you recommend :) . They both look like fun! Thanks again!
@McFlyAngler7 жыл бұрын
+ponycarguy both will work great for bass! And I’m sure you can do either one well! I’d love to see how they turn out, please send me pics when your done! Thanks again man!

Great vid, especially your trimming method. Had been struggling with that despite seeing it done on other videos.

Thanks! Glad it helped

the best patterns dont include trimming as it tends to make the fibers less lively. Believe me compare this to a wolly bugger and you will see that it pays off to place materials correctly and choose a convincing pattern. This pattern would not trigger as many bites from difficult fish as some of the more lively ones. However the short time it takes to tie makes more time for fishing

I made my first one today. It came out pretty good. Practice will make them better. I ordered eyes but I need to get a larger size up or maybe two to make them look best. What size are you using here? I will be using these for stripers and bonito on Cape Cod there is a ton of peanut bunker in the bays right now.. Thanks agian for this vid..

Yeah man, no problem. So all my subscribers now get a discount at fly artist. with the code "McFlySubs" at checkout. Use it for a discount. But I was using size 6mm for this one imparticular I think. Here is a link to some of my favorite eyes. Much better than these I used in the video, they are so cool looking! www.flyartist.com/products/fish-skull-living-eyes

Tank you so much for all the videos you have been a big help for someone that is new to fly tying I'm going to Christmas island later in the year could you do a tutorial on a fly called a gym sock thanks again all the best Tony
@McFlyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks man! Glad you enjoy the vids! Good luck on your trip! As for the gym sock, I had not heard of that fly till now. Did some research and finally found it. However I couldn’t get any more info than a picture and who originally made it. Unfortunately without finding the list of materials used, I can’t really re-create it with any accuracy

What camera do you use? Love the videos
@McFlyAngler8 жыл бұрын
Simple hand held camera... The Cannon Vixa - HR600 I think is the model. It has a 30x zoom though, which is helpful. It takes a while to get the focus to work though especially for the smaller flies. I really want to upgrade to a DSLR, but for now this works. Thanks for the kind comments.
