Thsnks Doug.I love your sentiments buddy.I guess I am just not photogenic enough to get the growth.As the boat materialises it will likely generate some more interest as there isnt much glamor in my build.No bikini shots and clear water a0nd sailing hence the kayaking and holiday vids to show I can actually have some fun in the mix.Cheers buddy Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Learning something every video on the bulkhead preps ect; Now if I ever need to use, and mess it up, I'll just claim Rosco taught me...lol..Looking pretty darn good on top.of that mountain and yes, leave the backpack, less weight means less velocity if there is a slip/fall and could be a chance one of the Paragliders could catch ya before the sudden stop, that's what hurts more than the fall..Thanks for the Trip share, glad Janet thinks ahead..snacks oh yea !!

When I made the parquet table top for our Balboa, my hands cramped up from all the sanding. Using a sanding block helped, but it produced 'flats' on the edges. I priced some 'soft' blocks, but being a sailboat owner, I never had a lot of cash on hand, so I bought a cheap 'white board' eraser, wrapped it with some 120 grit and locked it on with thumbtacks. The eraser was just soft enough to 'flex' around edges but firm enough to knock down high spots without 'digging in'. Thing lasted forever, still have it in my kit 30 years later...

Another fantastic video Ross! excellent content, I never considered the multiple steps that need to be covered to get a good end product. I can't see the typical boat manufacturer spending the time you take in the layup of a typical production boat. Fabulous cuts of Janet and you in Germany etc. Absolutely beautiful vistas. Good to see you two having some fun together. I wish I could have been there with you. Be careful she doesn't take the snacks and leave you no one of those cliffs. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers from Charleston, USA my friend!

Hey Rossco ! Glad you mentioned the prep on that plywood, was curious if you could increase the bond strength with mechanical fasteners widely separated every few inches like a staple thru the fiber that would remain under the finishing layer, or a small tack, countersunk screw, tiny holes thru plywood etc ? Always looking forward to your next post on KZbin...

I would likely prefer perforations filled with glass rovings instead of metal to keep the chemistry snd corrosion to a minimum.Would certainly improve the bond but it is more than adequate if dine correctly.In any case should the substrate fail the ply will never fail unless rotted.Ross

I am with Janet not wanting to go out on those catwalks. I had to turn away because just seeing it makes me pucker. It is amazing how the resin/fiberglass type of boats have come in the chemistry they use. I remember seeing boats when I was younger that it basically had just chopped strands that was painted. As always a great video Ross.

Hi Ross, have enjoyed all of the videos from day 1. As consuming as the work on the mold is, it is very nice to see that you also take the time to be with Janet. I have 1 question on the build though. Have you ever entertained installing 1 or 2 cameras in the very front of 1 or each of the hulls below the water line? I've never seen it on any other Cat and have always thought it would be of help navigating in shallow unknown waters and since you're building from the bottom up that it may not be that difficult a job..Cheers

Hey Rossco, a quick question for you: How are you going to dress the edges of those plywood panels? Glass them over after the fact, leave them bare when tabbing them to other parts? It's been a pleasure and a privilege to watch you create your dream boat!

@josephinring

Great video, I’ve watched all of the series so far, fascinating and well put together! Just a suggestion, why not cut up some small squares of plywood or something that you could use as riser blocks when you are laminating sheets of ply. If the sheet was a few mm above the surface of the table then maybe all that resin would just drip off the edge and not seep in under the sheet and need to be sanded off. If you had a good few small squares then I’m sure you could avoid any bowing in the sheet.

Love your content! Some constructive feedback from an old TV news guy: you should have a minimum of face time on your videos. Talk voice over action/work, not face time. Intro on camera is good. End on camera good. The more you explain on camera the more you lose the viewer. Explain while doing it. Let your skills shine! You got them!

I hate to have to break it to you, mate, but if you really loved her, you would have already taken off the backpack, so she wouldn't have to remind you that if you get to close to the edge, carelessly fell off the edge, and leave her there all alone, to answer questions from the police and rescue squad, she would at least have a snack or some little nibbles, to stave off hunger, until she gets back to the real world to order a late dinner and wine!! I mean really, Rossco, she could starve to death, while waiting on the guys to recover your body, and return the backpack, to get her a snack! Not to mention that the snacks could all be stale, or even worse, CRUSHED, by the time she got them back! Take off the backpack, before you fall to your death, and take all the good snacks down with you, leaving her alone AND hungry!! But, on the other hand, keeping the backpack securely strapped to your back, could ensure you don't get ACCIDENTALLY PUSHED!! Hmmm, did you say four thousand....ohhhh forget I asked!! P.S. What type of snacks?? Any chocolate? Trail mix?? Lol
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 жыл бұрын
I think the snacks were only meusli bars or granola snacks so wouldn't have sustained Janet while they recovered me from the base of the long drop.Janet would have sat at the bar with a Spritzer or three waiting for the rescue team to deliver the news I reckon.God love her.All the best Ross
