Back on the Daihatsu! This time, can we get it back on its wheels and driving for the first time since we swapped the engine? Yes, tinkering in the workshop has a happy return after far too long. Do check out our Chemmy merch - details below.
Delightful HubNut goodies can be purchased at hubnut.org or at our Hoodie store: hubnut-store.c... - this second store is where you can find "Because French" merch and much more.
Or, support HubNut at / hubnut or via Channel memberships: / @hubnut
Want to help Hubnut for free? Don't forget to like the video if you like it, and share with your friends if you really like it! Thank you all.

Chemmy reminds me of my brother's first car, a '83 Suzuki Alto. It was a lovely little motor. Fit 8 teenagers in a pinch. My brother learned a valuable lesson of changing the oil, the engine was destroyed. I think it sparked my love for small cars. His second car was a red '80 Ford Escort with a 2 litre 205 block and a stonking Weber carburettor, which made me like Fast Fords.

6 months? That's actually quite impressive considering it's of an age where electronics are a thing, and You've taught a beginner (and Your partner, you brave, brave man) how to change an engine at the same time, without a few tools (like a car lift) that make such work a lot easier. Congratumalations You both.

Agree with the other posters ; good job Ian and Carly in getting the Charade sorted. It looks far too nice a car to scrap, especially considering the price of 2nd hand cars these days, and good news that the new engine does not smoke, let's hope so.

Very good, taking an engine out of a car and putting it back together is no easy task. Lots of "unfinished projects" for sale tells you that. You done it the right way: enjoying life while keeping the project gently simmering in the background. An unexceptional car lives to fight another day. Huzzah!

I love what you achieved in the tightest of spaces, that an impressive feat in itself. Well done for getting Chemmy moving again under her own power :-) I was impressed at the angle of lean that was achieved on the jack. it made me chuckle that Carly was in panic mode and Ian was calm as always. Theres no finer feeling that achieving a big job such as an engine change. The job when it starts is huge. Well done again!!

Well done for getting it going again! Incidentally, Miss H doesn't need to do pull/push steering anymore in driving test as long as she can do rotational steering safely and under control. Best practice obvs is pull/push. Yes, I'm a fully qualified ADI before anyone doubts my words. 🙄

@@terryatkinson899 The CV joint as it attaches to the diff has torn itself off, shearing off the bolts. Not clear what the cause was; diff locking up or CV locking up. Garage can't find a replacement driveshaft anywhere in UK or Europe, so at present un-repairable due to lack of parts. Off to seek advice from the Fiat Forum!

Good to see Chemy mobile again and Miss HubNut can now crack on with getting her licence. Before she goes out on the road, best to torque up that crank pulley properly. To lock the engine in place you can either find a slot in the bell housing and stick a flat blade screwdriver into the starter ring gear or pop her into gear and lock the brakes on.

Nice to see the Charade running again. Look forward to the MOT later in the week. If you really have to bodge the vacuum connection for the servo, it probably needs a tight fitting bush inserted as well as the araldite. However, I would consider that only as an absolute last resort. With temperature variation, oil and relative movement between one end of the pipe on the engine and the other end fixed to the body, it's very challenging.
