My husband and I always watch your videos while eating breakfast on weekends (today we ate an omelet made with our own chard, sweet peppers, and onion tops). We have been watching you since you first launched your channel and never get bored. Gardening is cyclical and while gardeners do the same general things every year, it never gets old. Keep on keeping on, and we’ll keep watching! Love from New York ❤️🌱🥦🥬

It’s great to watch you plant in your videos as it spurs me one to get stuff done too. Having been with you from almost the beginning, what is interesting it’s how every year is different, timings get tweaked because of weather in Spring or like this year was so completely different to last year’s summer when blight was a huge issue due to the wet summer and how the drought this year slowed everything down. I had very mixed results with beans, I have French green pole beans and purple pole beans as well as a yellow bush variety, then I tried bolitti beans for the first time. The green beans were pretty much an epic fail, I think I have harvest six to ten beans at most, the bush beans just attract slugs, couldn’t take the heat or some other issues. The only good thing is that I can add them anywhere as nitrogen fixers. And then there is the purple beans which somehow over came the heat and shrugs off whatever sickness/pest that all the beans seem to have and have produced like mad. Ignoring the ones we’ve eaten, I have just under a kilo stored in the freezer! Your vlog is one of my favourites and is entertaining every week, thank you x

Not boring!! So enjoy your videos, and I swear to god I learn something new EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch one even though I've been growing veg for 13 yrs. Just you chatting about what you're doing, I find out new stuff 💜 also I know what you mean about wishing to protect the allotment 🙄 we used to have a few beds at a community garden near our house, in a rough area, and me and the kids grew pumpkins for Halloween, and we had so many they didn't all fit in the wagon to be pulled home, so we left some by the entrance to collect later, behind two tall locked gates and away from view, so we thought. Came back 2 hrs later to all our work smashed to bits all over the garden....🎃😭 I got so mad, we didn't do much community gardening after that.

My beans are thriving at the moment, picking a few daily and the runner beans are brilliant after a slow start. Apples are small and disappointing for me (but it’s in a container). Potatoes were a disappointment, along with my winter vegetable seedlings (died from negligence) but winter bedding potted on and should be ready for October planting. My zinnia don’t like it outside/ greenhouse so I grow them inside and are brilliant, try melons inside next year. Interesting looking at professional gardens and comparing what’s growing well there, I came away quite enthusiastic how well my plants were doing compared to a few other gardens. Something not working note it down along with ideas to improve.

I look forward to your videos every week. I had a hard time with my garden this year. This is, I think, the 12th year of drought here in California. Even with mulching, the soil dries out so fast. Plus, this year, we had a verry cool spring and summer. Now that it's almost Fall, we're having a heat wave. It's been 104 F yesterday and today and the rest of the week is predicted in the 90s and I live in NORTHERN California! My beans were the worst! I've noticed a lot of people having trouble with beans, but mine were ridiculous! I think I got about half a dozen beans off each variety before they shriveled up.
@JessieatPlot372 жыл бұрын
thank you Harriette. :) Gosh, 12th year. That really is hard going. Beans have been atrocious haven't they. Mine are recovery now and picking up in all the rain we've got but not much can be done if they've already succumbed to the heat! Hope next year is better is about all we can do!

Hi Jessie, great video! I am drying my dwarf beans but I am growing them in large pots. I am letting the beans hang over the edge. Slugs can be buggers for the beans as can the mice so maybe some mesh bags over the bunches of beans. So many varieties of beans on my list for next year and I'll stick to climbing beans for drying as they are much easier and dry quicker. Dwarf will be for eating fresh. Have a great week

Thanks Jenny! Ah, thats interesting. I was wondering about how they would dry being so close to the ground. Pots makes perfect sense! But yeah, much easier on a climber.

You could have got a train to from London to Oxford then on to Abingdon x3 and got a b&b in Abingdon or Oxford!

I know you were doing a cucumber 'experiment' this year, when did you sow them? Mine were amazing last year, this year I think I've only had about half a dozen from 2 plants, the Crystal lemon also only 3 frutits, better year for Toms and onions have been amazing, unfortunately you cant win them all!
@JessieatPlot372 жыл бұрын
Exactly that Anita. Can't win them all! I sowed the Cucumbers in Jan!!

It is all looking good! It was a bit of an odd year too, I was inundated with caterpillars. Are you growing the Winter Savory to go with the Jerusalem artichokes?
@JessieatPlot372 жыл бұрын
Odd year indeed! It was accidental about having the winter savory. The lady who gave us the cutting called it 'long leafed thyme' but i'm sure it will be used for that hahaah!

I have to say it's been a frustrating veg season,the success this year the onions have loved the heat and the early spuds have benefited from the lack of late frosts , don't know how me main crops are yet , cabbages usual reliability but really struggled with cauliflower and calabrese broccoli and funny enough lettuce they hated the heat ,and like everyone else the usual pests both insect and besties seem to know when to move into your veg , but on a positive my vitamin D level is up and am well tanned want a 2022 season

Strange year this one William. I know we say that about every year but you know! :D Yeah, of all the fails - vitamin D intake has been fab! :D

Never boring, can you just confirm the name of your manure supplier? Tried Organic Compost Co but it didn't bring them up??

Are you allowed to have a burn barrel to throw weeds in?
@JessieatPlot372 жыл бұрын
sadly not. We used to have fires in the incinerator all the time but now we are only allowed BBQ's.

Jessie,, I'm very fortunate to have a mushroom farm (Monaghan Mushroom's, one of the largest farms in Europe when it opened) in a relatively close proximity (within 20Km),,, I asked at the farm what they did with their spent compost,, they gave me the phone number of the contractor who cleared the beds,, I rang the contractor and asked if I could purchase a load,, he then delivered me a 10 tonne load for €80,, brilliant

Hi Jessie, loving your vlogs, can you tell me what you do with your Kohl Rabi please. I grew it first time this year, grew well, didn't seem to taste of much. Any ideas, recipes. Xx
@plaisirdelanglais2 жыл бұрын
I eat it raw just like that or I chop it into pieces and mix in with salad. If you harvest them smaller size, they don't get as woody.
@jeanhelliwell81602 жыл бұрын
@@plaisirdelanglais thankyou. They weren't woody, just didn't seem to taste of much. I saw where you could grate it into a slaw, didn't think it was tasty enough..may try slicing and frying with some spices or something.
@JessieatPlot372 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean. Kohl Rabi has got a little bit of a subtle flavour but its delicious. I make a dauphinois from them or yeah, the coleslaw. Just diced a roasted they are great. Cubed, roasted and thrown into a risotto is lovely too.
