Happy New Year. I have used the quadgrow triangle mats which I find survive for between 3 and 5 years. I find the easiest way to clean them up is to shake off the loose compost then leave them to dry, attached roots and all. By the time they are needed again, the disintegrated roots can be brushed off with a stiff brush - less icky than attempting any sort of washing. If any look too shabby you can just cut replacements from some capillary matting to the same shape and carry on🎉

How exciting to get seeds going!!!! I can dream :) I planted the Sugar rush peach peppers last year, they germinated easy, I had a bushel full during harvest. So delicious! So pretty! I pickled them, chopped them to freeze, and candied them. YUM! My jalapenos same!!! While you had a wet cold summer, we had a hot dry summer. I watered often and had to shade some of my crops. But it was a excellent year. My one big thing is to get sweet potatoes in water early early this spring. I did get a few slips big enough to grow, and come October I had a few nice sweet potatoes. This year (well in fall) I built a deep raised bed for them this year. So excited for the results. Happy New Year.

All the best for 2025 guys!! You could always put the broad beans in the coldframe (as you don't appear to use it to its full potential) that will acclimatise the plants and give you more growing space, especially if you put a layer of sand in the bottom of the coldframe it should reduce the slugs as they don't like to travel over coarse sand
@JessieatPlot3714 күн бұрын
My cold frame is a little on the.... destroyed side at the moment! I needs a full reburb! Lily took to using the top as a hammock this year and caved it in and then moved on to using it as a scratching post... thank you Lil! But you are absolutely i haven't used it to its full potential at all the last few years. The sand tip might help though!

Happy New Year Jess and Kathleen. It's mid-summer here and everything is growing like triffids. New Years resolutions are to be outside more, and not plant as many potatoes and tomatoes. I always underestimate the space they need (actually, same with cabbages). Also must tie up the tomatoes more regularly. I had a week before Christmas when my attention was taken up with family matters, and the tomatoes went bezerk and now growing all over the place. It is taking a lot to gain some control back. BUT I have picked the first cherry tomatoes before New Years which is a record for me (usually waiting until late January before anything is ripe).

Happy New Year to you and yours! Big thumbs up to being outside more. And ah.... when the tomatoes go, they really go don't they!! And then i find it so hard to cut big stems off that are covered in flowers!!
