After joining I'd also be very tempted to grind that gel coat off that front joined section and add a wrap around the front with epoxy and more glass and perhaps a piece of aramid on the bias... Then refinish... I'm all overkill though my composit models always end up 20%heavier than they should... 😎

Can you imagine, after all your hard work, ripping your hand open on the edge of that hard fiberglass? After you cut it I was wondering if you were going to smooth it...of corse you did! Yup, totally forgot about all those lifting points, your plan looks very good but I am scared, it looks like a giant sail to me, oh man, that’s going to be a day for sure I will not miss! It will be exciting how you do it, what kinds of things will you do to handle that! I’m looking forward to seeing the hull work, especially that mast set up. Thanks Ross, another good episode

You could drill and "thread" some of the waste material near the hatches and put air fittings to shoot some "synchronized" compressed air through them. Like a small cheapo manifold and some fittings. I've seen some long term production moulds that had built in air hose lines in various places to pop the piece out of them come demoulding day(admittedly, those were for cars, not boats, but in theory it should work). Either way, excited for D-day 2.

Good Work Ross ! Maybe those fwd sections in bow and fwd deck can be done by someone more petite and able to fit up there ? Another option is to make a full width series of foam panels (like leading edge of a wing shape) profiled to fill those rounded cavities, reduced in size to allow for resin and glass thickness , and applied to foam to be inserted all at one time. You did say you wanted to reinforce those areas since you don't have a horizontal aluminum brace between hulls.

When do you plane on Gel coating the interior to that nice glossy finish that you want for your interior? Looking good by the way Ross.
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bruce.The interior will get a combination of linings,painted and flow coated finishes.Unable to gel coat as the surfaces although interior to the boat are actually external surfaces and require flow coat in order to set.The wax in flow coat rises through the gel coat and form's an oxygen inhibitor allowing cure.This will have to be done once deck is fitted and fully joined to the hull.Cheers Ross

@@ZenWithKen LMAO! You're kidding, right? There is a plethora of Doug's videos showing cracks, porosity, delamination, etc. Some by him, some by others. I held three certifications back in the day (MIG, TIG, and stick). This would not be acceptable in a REAL ship building yard using certified welders. Unfortunately some of Doug's first welding was performed on critical butt joint connections when the hull was folded. I don't recollect Doug kerfing (v-groove) these joints, which is standard *certified* practice when performing a butt joint on plate. It appears the weld was just overlayed . Will it sink, probably not. Will it survive a category 3 hurricane in the middle of the pacific? I doubt it. Hop aboard for an ocean passage. Knock yourself out.
