EP2 XOverland Baja Special // Crossing the Border & A Three Day Dive School Challenge

Expedition Overland

Expedition Overland

2 жыл бұрын

The Expedition Overland team crosses the international border into Baja, Mexico, but not without paperwork issues that change the team’s plans. Plan C is deployed, and the crew members pivot and ‘dive’ into their next underwater adventure where the challenge begins! This overlanding team works hard for a 3 day dive certification but not without some casualties along the way...
The team sets their sights on an epic Baja campsite as they make their way South to explore more of this amazing place! #xoverland #bajaspecial #anywhereispossible

Awesome stuff in this one. Scuba diving is amazing but very technical. My dad was a navy diver and taught me to scuba when I was a boy. Then took a scuba diving in class which was pretty awesome. Is been nearly 20 years since I have scuba dove. Learning to stay calm and NEVER panic no matter what is huge. This was so cool to watch.

I shipped my FJ twice. First time (no experience) from FL to Panama (Manzanillo port - Colon) on a Ro-Ro ship in 2014. Learned during the process. Second time - from Panama (Manzanillo port - Colon) on a 20ft container back to Miami, FL - late November 2019. The process to get the car out of Panama was the hardest one and expensive. My stress level was the highest ever. And even when we crossed to Canada (Fort Erie), driving, I was still nervous. Though, 16 months of prior research did the job before moving to Canada. Would do it again. P.S: Adding my two cats to the Panama - U.S - Canada trip. They even needed a permit to leave Panama. Still, would do it again.

After years of living in and traveling thru south Texas, I’ve learned a few things about eating Mexican food… 1. Gringo stomachs are just weaker than Latino stomachs; 2. The juicier the taco, the better, but also the more dangerous; 3. While we tend to fear meat the most, for pathogens, it’s the raw veggies/salsa/sauces most likely to get you- they aren’t cooked and, often, aren’t even washed before processing.

As someone who has been scuba certified since 1978 seeing you guys do an online class scares me a little . The problems that can crop up while diving really need a hands on experience to not panic while diving because panic is the thing that is most likely to kill you while diving . I've had a problem at 120 ft deep my regulator lost a seal at the diaphragm and I started getting half water half air but because fortunately I didn't panic , I had my dive buddy and we did a buddy breath assent and it was fine but that is a place any panic will almost certainly end in death . That Montezuma's revenge is bad though when you're not used to that kind of food , I was born and raised in San Diego so getting a sampler platter in Mexico is fine for me but you northern people don't have the stomach for that LOL . Sorry it sucks and I know how bad that can be but it's kind of funny from my perspective because I saw it coming during dinner the night before . I did like the cure , more of the same , this is how life is so get used to it LOL
@ExpeditionOverland
@ExpeditionOverland 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The online portion of the class are made up of the 'in class' videos they would have you watch. This is how most Padi classes are now. The team all did great and we agree, diving is no joke and you need to be sure to get good training. Us Northern folk for sure have to get our stomach's used to the new diet, totally worth it though!
@stevej7139
@stevej7139 2 жыл бұрын
@@ExpeditionOverland it's funny the difference now with PADI vs NAUI back then . I got certified by PADI about 18 years ago when I put my kids through the class . It's far more family orientated than NAUI was , seriously the NAUI class was more like boot camp compared to PADI being a camp out . 8 of us started the NAUI class and 2 failed , they could not hack it but I will say this , if you passed a NAUI class there is pretty much nothing that can happen you haven't dealt with during class from equipment failure to CPR on the water and even how to deal with sharks among other sea creatures (east coast barracuda yikes). Our dive instructor Pete was a guy that would try everything to trip you up , rip your mask off and toss it before you know he's even there or turn off your tank while your swimming along , and the stories go on , fun guy LOL in the end we were all good friends .

Actually was Padi. It definitely was tough but we learned and advanced fast. I would do it again for sure.

@@Tanner_Johnson I hope you do! I think you’ll find things very different taught else where… I highly recommend a few of you advancing to rescue diver. It’s a very rewarding course! Then maybe on to master diver.
