To the "sell-out" comments here: when you bust your tail for decades perfecting your craft of story-telling, filming, editing, voice-overs, travel logistics, team-building, etc, brands such as Toyota, ARB, PCOR, etc, want to work with you so that their products gain exposure to a targeted audience and because they know their products will be highlighted in such a way that aligns with the way they want their products highlighted to a mass audience. What XO does is no different than Nike wanting their products on Tiger Woods because they saw him as the best golfer in the world. Awesome builds, XO crew! The vast majority of us appreciate what you do and what you put out for our enjoyment! (ps what pants do you all have on? I need some.)

I think you’re missing the point of many of these “sell out” comments. The point is that these builds are unrealistic to the average offroad enthusiast. No one is saying they don’t deserve it. This is an awesome channel but not many can afford these setups. You can’t even find TRD Tacomas at Toyota dealerships these days.
@jamescliftonbates Жыл бұрын
@@Beattheroutine I hear you, but calling someone or some organization a "sell-out" presumes that said someone or organization subscribes to the notion that they are aligned equally with the person calling them out under the pretense that what they promote is realistic. I haven't seen any of XO's content regarding these trucks claiming to be realistic or affordable for the average off-road enthusiast. With that common denominator, it's not logical to call XO a "sell-out".

I'd love to see a behind the scenes video of the two builds. With details on installation challenges, total (MSRP) cost, hours spent on the build, what works and what doesn't, What you wish you could improve, etc.
@coolftp2 жыл бұрын
I think it's rather impossible. These videos are sponsored. If something doesn't work, it's replaced silently. Someone who gives them tires or other equipment for free does not want 100,000. people watched something break. This is the power of marketing - talk about positive things, not negative ones; sometimes you have to add fragments from the installation that something seems to be going wrong to add realism and such a thrill, stress, etc. In fact, Alaska can be attacked with new equipment worth less than $ 40,000. For example, you buy a new Tacoma with a 4-cylinder engine, an access cab and a utility package without rear seats. For an additional $1,500 you can install a rear lockout and compressor, for $2,000 you change the suspension, for an additional $1,500 you buy new tires and for $3,500 you buy an extrahigh canopy. All you have to do is install a 2" receiver on the back and front and buy a winch that mounts to the 2" receiver + some hauling equipment. Together with canopy heating and a mattress, you'll get around $40,000 with a new car and gear, and maybe $20,000 with a slightly used one. What is shown in the videos costs at least $60,000-70,000 in total and a lot of labour, but actually - I think - it only costs them labour; the rest is advertising.

Wow what a rig. With all it gears, electronics, expensive lights all around, the pcor canopy, Dual winch, custom bullbar, great tyres(expensive😃), Redarc power system with extra lithiums, state of the art suspension system, lockers, full belly armoured the list goes on. You guys are fortunate to have a sponsorship and to be able to built an overlanding vehicle of this caliber (I'm jealous🤫). Me and my friends(5) in two ISUZU d-max (all terrain) we went to the Himalayan range and Ladakh was our target. It took us exactly 2 weeks to reach from the North East part of India. ARB winch(runva 8k lbs) compatible front bumpers and dual swing rear. Both the truck got pair of spots on the front bumper(BD LP pro 4) with S1 led fog lamps swap with the stock one's, A pillars flood (BD S1 amber), headlights are stock, couple of rack mounted leds(cheap), 1 high lift jack, shovels, traction boards(Amazon).One got manager 30 system with 120 w lithium, we got stock TC, HDC and E rear locker, yakima racks with RTT, ARB awning (e-bay), 2 inch lift with Fulcrum suspension, Bridgestone 33s A/T, we carry a lot of jerry-can cause we don't have long range fuel system, one truck spare has to be located in the stock carrier (cuts and trims) so, that it carry more jerrys, at one point we bought petrol from a loaded tanker on the road. Climbing was tough, challenging and scary cause on the left there's nothing but a thousand feet drop down. Elevation sickness make us stationary for one full day. We got lots of pictures and few videos(GoPro).

When these builds are complete, how much do these trucks weigh and where does that land relative to the GVWR?
@3098jorge2 жыл бұрын
It’s my question too, no way these builds are under payload capacity.
@geographyinaction781422 күн бұрын
@@3098jorgeThey are overweight, and grossly so. The Tacoma is not a Hilux, it has nowhere near the payload, braking, suspension, or power. This truck has a useable payload of about 1100 lbs, and that must include fuel, gear, passengers. You cannot increase GVWR, and every ounce of weight you add must be deducted from the available payload. Heavier, larger tires and rims, suspension upgrades, bumpers, armour, canopies, roof racks, awnings, all of that pushes much of that 1100 lbs to the limit...add fuel, water, food, gear, people, you're too heavy. There are people out there that add 1000 lbs campers on these and think they're good. They have also lifted the truck and added hundreds of pounds of gear and think they are fine. The European Rangers, Amoraks, Hilux trucks have payloads that are 2-3 times that of the N. American versions.
