True, I played Pacifist recently for the first time and it was fine. I was a Pacifist, xenophile, egalitarian. And The game went smoothly because my play style forming federation with my neighbours and peacefully vassalize the rest of the galaxy.

I think it's that you can't declare or be declared upon, but this war was not technically declared on EP30, it was declared on their vassal, and they were drawn in because of the defensive terms on their contract. Maybe that doesn't count.

@@fuchsmichael93 As a moderate pacifist you can indeed declare wars, albeit only wars of liberation (which apparently includes extermination wars against genocidal and assimilator empires). It's fanatic pacifists that cannot declare war at all.

Funnily enough this was actually one of the achievements I got in my very first Stellaris playthrough. I was basically playing like space Switzerland until the Scourge had eaten a third of the galaxy.

@@Ep3o For a video, its crap; for the achievement, its not bad. Alternately, if you have a way to watch TV or the like while in arms reach of the Stellaris computer, put something interesting on, start the boring achievement game, and use the commercials (times you pause) to make updates (colonizing/getting thru "stop the game" announcements/dealing with space fauna/etc) Though for the video, similar to the sammich description, could review the movie or whatever you were watching

This shows something I feel stellaris is lacking a bit. The game is massively focused around war as a form of progression, imo there needs to be more forms of peaceful progression to even make playing as a pacifist somewhat satisfying apart from the role play aspect.

If only the AI knows how to value their systems, trading would be more useful. I know that it could be used to house habitats, megastructures, made into a defensible area, etc., but come on, at that point you're probably already be building ringworlds on each system.

The balance has changed under the direction since 3.0, before the AI relied often on the market to balance it's economy, so you could make money on the galactic market, benefit from rebellions and take opportunities created by the crises. The vassal spam, inflation of energy tech output, higher productivity of synthetic SRs, and industrial districts has favoured war over cooperation. I find it rather disappointing as interesting emergent behaviour with the aggressive belligerent empires weakening towards mid-game, and getting picked off has gone. Instead the galaxy coalesces around fewer dominant and usually aggressive empires who gain vassals.

Agreed. I can win a small galaxy in a single military campaign that takes about 20 years, fleets permitting. But if I want to push towards Pax Galaxtica through Diplomacy...? Must wait 10 years between policy ranks, as just one of several artificial slow downs. There seems to be a deliberate attempt making it take a lot longer to use the Galactic Council to subjugate your neighbors.

@@lostbutfreesoul Galactic resolutions can require adjustments to your economy, it needs to be slow to allow mon-pausing players time to react. The GalCom came in in 2.6 and that was Federations which gave advantages to cooperative empires. Mercantile & Diplomatic approaches are by nature slow burners, I felt around 2.8 the balance was better with long running strategies viable to imperceptibly isolate and weaken the militaristic factions. Because galaxies were different, I settled on a flexible style of empire which could adapt to circumstances; the opposite of the fixed "metas" that MP players require to be competitive because they have 30 years of peace. To me the ridiculous imbalances from 3.0, especially around DLC launches giving new "OP" possibilities spoilt Stellaris. How can you self handicap with origin and difficulty scaling, once you are compelled to strive towards vassal spam?

I find it weird that achievements work with any setting. For example, you could turn Ai empires off, start on Civilian in a tiny galaxy with no pre ftl, 0.25 tech and tradition cost, and "just speed 5 it" is we would say in EU4. I think achievements should only work on standard galaxy settings on, say, Captain and above. Also, the audio voice recording for all this channel's recent videos are massively improved, that new mic was totally worth it.

Yeah, the way I see it, you can just cheat in achievements if you want. If you're just going to change all the game settings to make getting it a breeze, what's different from just cheating it in?

Fun fact: on console (not sure about PlayStation), this achievement is bugged! It says to ‘as a pacifist empire, have all other independent empires be pacifist as well’ … but in reality you have to not be at war for 200 years. Oh Stellaris console…

One of my first achievements when I played without mods, Inwards perfection is my bread and butter. I love creating a utopian empire and the game is practically over the moment a barely competent player becomes aggressive .

Didnt even knew they changed the achievement :o Funny thing is, I got the 200 years of peace in my very first playthrough. I had no idea what I was doing and automaticly build a very peacefull empire, Very egilaterian too so I got the one with the council too on this one. But yeah, the intervene and galactic law thing, still have to do it.

I don't want to salt your wounds, so to speak, but I think there is only one event where they blow themselves up, the nuclear escalation one, and it offers you a choice (whether to deescalate or ignore it) in a pop up, which choice is deterministic. So I think you may have misclicked a second time there. The only event that's actually unreliable with respect to their enlightenment is the robot uprising that may happen when they are nearly spacefaring, since whether it succeeds seems to be probabilistic. I suspect this series would be less annoying for you, if you actually played through a scenario more normally instead of trying to speedrun each achievement.

@@Elyseon This used to be the case back when the new mechanics were first introduced, and I think it might have been a bug. Ever since the newer updates helping them may result in them becoming fanatic spiritualists or militarists etc, but they do survive, unless they were really early in their development and didn't have enough pops.

I got the "you've been denounced!" in a funny way. in a match I was friendly with most empires and kept to myself to build up to fight the incoming end-game. I was 100% not paying attention to the community or votes going on. what I did notice was my economy took a like 5% dip and I got "you've been denounced!" they passed all major sanctions then denounced me, anyway so that's how my galactic protector run quickly snowballed into a full blown crisis war that I started and finished helping the actual crisis. unlocked it Feb 25th, 2021 and it's still the one I'm most proud to have

Managed to get this achievement a few days ago as inward perfectionist anglers, was fun and stressful trying to avoid war as I was neighboring hostile empires, but I got the 200 years done, entering the endgame year as a psionic imperium. More interesting than I thought since I thoroughly enjoy economy and planet management!

Everytime I want to play as a war monger the Galaxy sings kumbaya. Everytime I want to play as a pacifist Doom music starts playing and everyone is at war, the Khan comes around, the War in heaven breaks out, the Grey Tempest invades the Galaxy and no one want to leave me the f alone.

As a proud citizen of the Terran Empire i only tolerate pacifism for the first 50 - 60 years of the campaign. Then i assess the galactic community and my neighbours and if they are worth conquering i take half their territory and vassalise/tributary the rest
