Love the "Big Carpets" "Small Carpets" joke. You are funny! Love your channel and your boat. It is a genuine pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks for all of your strong work. Level Vibes as always.

The best video yet. Loved the cinematography of New York!

Thanks for the comment. We wondered if we should include the NY videos given all the sites are already so well known to everyone .... but then we decided to keep the highlights. Its a very interesting city and we were especially impressed with what has been done in the area around ground zero .... and especially especially the GZ memorial in the base of the 2 towers. A very appropriate piece of architecture for the gravity of what happened there.

You are making us change our sailing plans to go north for a year from the Caribbean. It looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks for a great video.

When we get comments on our videos like this we are especially happy. To think that our videos influence others to sail where we have been does something to the heart! Its certainly a very worthwhile break from the Caribbean for the summer. The east coast USA is a fantastic cruising ground all the way from Florida to the Canadian border. We only just managed to hit the highlights in 5 months. A word of advice. We were told to just go direct to New England via Bermuda then come slowly back down. We chose to sail in the calm waters behind Turks and Caicos and Bahamas to Florida then up the coast. It was a long but wonderful sail, plus you get to see Bahamas, Florida and the Carolinas which cannot easily be done on the way back (going against the wind and Gulf Stream). So we covered those on the way up, then jumped Carolinas direct to New England and came back down slowly to Virginia before crossing to Bermuda then Antigua. As I write, we just arrived in Bermuda. Oh .... and although everything is cheap in the USA .... marinas and anything related to yacht services are not! but anchoring is very easy in most places and if not, then buoys are reasonable. But docking is NOT!

@@SailCloudyBay Thanks for your reply. It is really great to be able to get someone's viewpoints on an area who is actually sailing and not just observing - it helps immensely in the decision process. I know you must have so much correspondence to deal with so the detail of your reply is greatly appreciated. Hope you have a safe trip from Bermuda to Antigua. And, as an aside, I have boat envy! It doesn't happen too often but I'm there!

you guys have done a wonderful job of seeing everything as you pass by . on all of your videos , it looks like you have seen the real east coast america at the speed of a sailboat . today with planes and cars whizzing by , people do not take time to enjoy what is around them ..

HALE BURNSIDE MD the east coast of USA ( full, from Maine to Florida) is one of the best seasonal cruising grounds in the world I would say. I really don’t understand why more foreign boys based in Caribbean don’t head up there in the summer. They are missing out big time.

Noooo. It hurts to hear you say Grand Central Station. Grand Central is NOT a station. It is a Terminus. Note the proper name written on the building- Grand Central TERMINAL. I know, I know, I’m being obnoxious and petty. I’m probably just jealous of your amazing voyage. Absolutely beautiful. Time for me to get things together and set sail. Thanks for the videos.

Oana, your commentary is fantastic. Thank you. A friend borrowed my MacBook and brought it back a few weeks later with a glass of Coca Cola spilled into the keyboard. It was dead. I stuffed it in a drawer and forgot about it. We were talking about the incident about 8 months later and I pulled it out of the drawer, pressed the button as if it would start, and it did! A couple of keys were sticky so I replaced the keyboard. It was still working years later. But sometimes we just can't wait for months ...

Yep, we couldnt wait! our PC was our lifeline to the world. But the tea spill was a good lesson - we bought a backup PC while in the USA - the land of low cost everything! Thanks for the comment on Oana's commentary. I keep telling her she is very good, but your comment goes way further than mine :)

What size spade anchor is that? Im glad you got to visit the 911 memorial.....I have friends who were taken to early and it is one of the most humbling experiences.........I assume that was your son and not some kid you adopted off the street......lol....You guys did a lot in one day.......Its nice to visit, but its one of the reasons we cruise (to get away from).......

The anchor is a Turkish ULTRA anchor and ours is a 44Kg (about 90Lbs). We had a 34Kg delta that worked just fine, but were told for serious cruising, where we might have to anchor in extreme conditions, the 34Kg was too small. So its now stowed as a back up. Interestingly the ULTRA has a hollow stem so that its actually slightly buoyant to ensure the spade always lands tip down. If I'd had my choise I would have had a Rockner or Vulcan, but it would have meant modification on the bow roller. Yes the 911 memorial was indeed a very humbling experience. I could not think how they could have possibly done it better. Hats off the designers and NYC for that. Yes that was my son, Alex ... hansom devil ... like his Dad :) He was visiting us inbetween London jobs for the the trip Long Island to Annapolis. And yes, it was a whirlwind 1-day visit to take Alex. We had already spent 4 (rainy) days there but as that visit was not related to sailing, we have not included in the video.

Sorry we missed you. Unfortunately our video publishing is always a few weeks behind where we actually are, due to the time it takes us to edit each one into a compilation. Our daily blog though, if you are interested, is right up to date. It can be found on www.sailcloudybay.com

Great video as always! And it seems like the voice and music levels are more equal now. Much more pleasing to not have to turn down the volume when the music starts. Do you need to have any kind of skipper or captain license to run a yacht like yours?

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you noticed the sound better. 1) We are now using Adobe Premier Pro for editing. 2) Oana is now doing all the editing and she has MUUCH more patience, not to mention a woman's touch!

No, there is no need for any captain's licence for a private boat like ours. At least, not in the country that we are registered in (Gibraltar, UK). Some countries however do require their citizens to have a licence. Italy, France for instance. UK is very relaxed in this regard. And, unusually, we dont know of anywhere that would require us, as UK citizens, to have a licence.

@@SailCloudyBay Thanks a lot for the answer. Good to know if the dream come true. Here in Norway we have to get a kind of "costal/hobby skipper" license on private yachts from 15,01 Meter/50 Feet up to 24.00 Meter/78 Feet as long as you don't have paid guests onboard. I have the "light version" up to 15.00 Meters/50 Feet/25 BRT(Brutto Tonnage) which is about the same level of education and exam as a ordinary driving license for a car.

Glen, don't you have to do any sailing courses(RYA) to let you sail offshore?? or have to do the ICC??
@SailCloudyBay
@SailCloudyBay 6 жыл бұрын
Shane, I did RYA Yacht Masters course about 30 years ago. So technically you could say I’m qualified. But reality is that I’m not required (sailing under a British flag) to have any qualifications to sail a private yacht anywhere in the world.

We actually found the memorial quite moving and perfectly representing the gravity of this place. We are sorry if you thought we are smiling too much, we were actually quite moved by the situation and view. I guess we are just used to always trying to have an upbeat face for the vlog. No offense meant to any of those poor people whos names are engraved there, nor their families or friends. Of course.

Nice couple, beautiful boat, but New York City on a rainy day is a boring, boring, boring, subject. I wish you fair winds and safe passages everywhere you go. But, please give us information about the boat, go fishing, get out of New York and show us how natives live in the third world. Not trying to be obnoxious, but New York just has zero interest to this Southern boy. I guess you Aussies have different customs, but I would have struck my flag once the rain started and replaced it after the storm. Is there some legal reason you must display a flag on the stern or something? I will keep watching your channel because other videos have been better than this one. Now you have my honest feedback, and again, I wish you well and welcome you to America.
