This popped up in my feed and so happy to see it. We've been looking at a Hallberg-Rassy also, very set on the brand. Probably will go with a 40c to to have easy handing/maintenance. Plus we will be using the boat for weekends then do two and three months on the boat in the next few years. We live in the area you visited in this video. So wish I had known as could've given you a lot of notes on the great places to visit.

Hi Wes, glad you enjoyed the video. Lots of others on our channel. 40C is a nice boat. Was aboard one just last week in Deale MD. I think it was the Annapolis show boat. HR is indeed a great brand and solid boats.

stunning boat. Great footage. I have a German Frers designed F&C 44 built in 1981. Love it but your HR 54 sure has a lot of upgrades!!!

Thank you both for sharing this video. I like it very much. Your boat is a beauty and top quality ( and very expensive ). It’s nice to see how people in this area live. regards from Zürich, Switzerland

Thanks for the nice comment. Luckily we managed to find this one at 8 years old, barely used, but at a great price. No way could we have afforded a new one.

Thank you Glen and Oana, I sail from my desk and I am curious about if a size sailboat like yours +-54 feet, is easy handle by only one person, solo, or is too big. Thank you.
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Truth is that is can be sailed single handed. Your challenge will be docking it. Especially in a wind. Reality is that it is a very big boat with big gear and often you need an extra set of hands. So yes, it can be done, but I would certainly not sail single handed by choice ... I'd want something much smaller with less loads on the gear and easier to maneuver. 2 handed is ideal. Buy a boat like this and I'm sure you could have people queuing to help you!

Love you guys and thanks for making the effort, love the s sailing stuff in particular, looking to do the same, seen a ridiculously under used Najad 391, any opinions/thoughts you could share?
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Underused is always good. Thats how we found Cloudy Bay. 2500 miles, 250 engine hour and 35 generator, after 8 years. But it also had an owner that looked after her very well plus is was kept oin the dry climate of Lanzarote. So underused is good as long as its not been sitting idle in a damp humid climate. Dampness kills the systems where the boat is used or not. And the other thing is you can maybe expect some issues with the engine(s) depending how they have been kept. Cloudy was in the water for 8 years and the none moving salt water in the raw water systems had cause alot of calcification. But after a few months of good use and fixing things, everything stabilised gradually. But I would say underused is alway a good buy, you get the age discount without the wear.

I bet you wish you had a Southerly swing keel when you got stuck. 😉 Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍👍😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵

Glad you liked the video. When we first started to look at what yacht to buy, a swing keel (or at least a shallow draft) was definitely close to the top of the list. We looked at a few, mostly aluminium French yachts but didnt like any. So we wrote-off Bahamian type cruising and bought an 8ft draft! Swing keels certainly have their place, but not for me for Ocean passages.

Just an observation and a question. Over my 60 plus years of observation, I find it fascinating how both Americans and Brits find each other's home shores to be QUAINT. I have never noticed this among any other nations. Where was Oana, I hope I got that correct, raised? Glens accent is Clearly English but hers sounds more Dutch, maybe, maybe! Being from Connecticut, Long Island sound would be my home waters but where I am in CT would be about as far from the Sound as possible and still be in CT. I am actually in the Farmington River Valley. Come up the Connecticut River and dock at our capitol of Hartford and rent a car to go fishing on the Farmington. sdh in CT

Interesting comment Steve. yes, I guess thats true. But also an observation on my years sailing in UK .... not many USA sailors around there! Yes, Glen is English (Limey!) and Oana is Romanian.
@sreterzot20816 жыл бұрын
no, this accent isn’t dutch. I think it’s an east European accent.

@@SailCloudyBay And another question. What would you say, according to your sailing experience, is the maximum boat size for a single handed sailor ?
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
45-48ft maybe? Even that is big in a strong wind. If I was picking a safe and manageble size for solo sailing I would look at about 42ft. Comfortable enough to have all the gear on board without it sinking, but small enough to manage. A 42ft yacht would be less that 1/2 the weight of Cloudy Bay (CB is 30 tons).

Suffolk police it's the worse nice boat
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Well, they were quite polite. But odd that not 1 but 2 police boats should "find" us at 10am on a sunny calm sunday morning while we were aground. And then to take the opportunity to ask for all our paper work and details! Frankly, one thing I would advise the USA after cruising the length of the East coast for 5 months: you are spending way too much money on marine law enforcement and coast guard. I've not seen any other country with sooo much equipment, people and infrastructure in these departments. On the other hand, I guess its good to know help is always near on hand. But the cost of public money must be enormous!
