I just gave up my CDL in April, but every time I see one of your videos or any trucking videos, I get itchy for the road . But I’m a little to old now, but 52 years driving I’m done

The best line of the video was, “by the end of the week I’d be sharing Opies food”. In the end it all worked out. Next week I’m sure you’ll have a pocket full of cash on ya.

I use those steps at the fuel lanes, when available. I'm only 5'3", and sometimes that long handle isn't long enough for me to reach the center. Lol. I bought a step ladder so when my shoulder is healed and I head back out on the road, I have something to help me reach when other steps aren't available. Lol

I used to have a part-time weekend gig with a mobile truck washing service back in 1994 when cab overs were still plentiful. I would hate to drive one, but by golly, they were a lot easier to wash versus a conventional cab.

Kurt I'm like you, I studied the pretrip for the test than never checked all that stuff. Then my company (Matlack) went out of business and I went to work Smith Transport and was told I would have to do the pretrip and could only miss 5 things. I studied most of the night for it, missed 2, wipers and registration plate on trailer. Go figure, take care and be safe out there. Retired in W.V.

As always great video. I cannot wait to get my license, and get on the road. Today was my first day at the school and the few instructors I had said they haven't seen someone blast through the course like I did. Usually on day one their students are only learning the engine compartment pre-trip. However because I have some mechanical experience I was able to blast through the entire pre-trip walk around and do the in cab pre-trip. Since I can only go on Fridays and Saturdays they are going to have me do a mock test for the pre-trip part, then move me on to maneuvering which I have some experience with. So with some luck I might be able to take my road test in a week or two after next Friday and Saturday.

I travel for work too because I’m an engineer on the railroad. Having a card problem is a pain. The lucky part is that one away terminal has a branch of my bank there. Another time card trouble happened and I was able to borrow some cash from a friend. It taught me to open an account with another bank, where I just keep a couple thousand for emergencies.

Very talented young men & women. Whew! My wife & I got married in '96. Our 1st baby boy was born '99. Thought of that with the year of the COE & 1st Class. Great vlog Kurt. Sometimes the inspection is a good thing. I remember when I worked at toll bridge about 12 or 13 years ago, a truck through the plaza and the trailer, it was an Extra lease trailer, was shedding wheel nuts and studs worse than Opie sheds fur, almost too out a window in the booth. Couldn't get him to stop though.

Have always been prepared to the max, then had 2 flat tires at once, had to call in for work, get it towed and there was hassle with that... stuck on a rural tx road in summer with a3yo...she didn't mind, had granola bars and water. That mouthy child gave me grief when I made a full size spare on top of the donut... she said if I really wanted to be safe get 4 spare tires!! After that they tortured me at times with "4 spare tires" and laughed. The older I get the more I see there is no winning in life.

I keep three credit cards with two different providers, and ATM cards from two banks. Fuel is via EFS card, and I can get cash from that card as well. Plus cash in the pocket and canned food in the truck. The credit card thing I learned overseas years ago. I was in a place that only took VISA-branded cards. My credit card was Mastercard-branded...no go. Fortunately my ATM card carried the VISA brand. So now I have VISA and Mastercard from Capital One, plus a Mastercard from another provider.

Here in central SC, we have a lot of farm land. I do a lot of Trike riding out in the country as my wife and I did today. It is rare that my windshield get hit with bugs of any size. What is with the bugs in your part of the country? My friend came from Sturgis couple of weeks ago and he was telling me that almost every time they stopped for gas and in the mornings getting started, they had to clean the bugs off the truck.

Kurt! I have to admit, you don't have a separate account just for trucking, and another one for the household? That's what my dad made me do when I first bought my (we bought) our "74 Pete! Everything I made trucking, I'd split it down the middle, and I'll admit fuel was a tad cheaper back in the '70s, but I always carried a fuel card 💳, that I kept right there in the truck, and I also carried traveler's checks to pay for stuff like food, snacks, and drinks! I usually got fregoe showers when I fueled up, and as you know that part always came in handy! But thank God you got things straightened out!...👍

Funny story. Today I was out riding my Harley-Davidson. I was about 60 miles from home and decided to stop for a cold drink and some gas for the Harley-Davidson. Low and behold the little town of Warrenton ,GA had a blackout. Every gas station was out of power. I had about 60 miles range left of gas so I kept going. I stopped at a Pilot in Augusta and now my credit card won’t work at the pump. I left and went down the road to another gas station. This time my card worked. I also need to start carrying some cash. I think most businesses still take cash. LOL
