I have subscribed to you all since early in your journey as KZbinrs. I really enjoy your channel as a way to improve my Mandarin as a Taiwanese American (I'm an ABC). Also I can experience more of Taiwan and the world through you all. Eighteen years ago, I spent 6 months living in rural Kenya and also took a side trip to Uganda to whitewater raft the Nile (that can be your next challenge on a trip to Africa! 😉). Eric, I totally understand the feeling you were trying to describe when the children or adults come up enthusiastically to say hi but then followed up with asking for money. You feel a bit exploited but also feel sympathy/pity because they are so poor in many parts of these countries and have so little. My guess is that these countries guard and protect tourists so well at the fancy hotel you stayed because i think pretty crimes are common and tourism is a big moneymaker/resource that they want to protect and keep safe. I appreciate your call for us to step outside our comfort zones! Thanks for all your thoughtful content.
