Hard to believe that people would sell something so hefty in silver that priced at $125 for $20. I would never accept such a low offer... P.S. I am also in California (Palm Desert) and I cannot find deals like that, not even close.. Silver (if you even find it ) in thrift stores cost as much as at retail stores, if not more... I won't even talk about gold.. I've seen it only once... 14k wedding band with 3 tiny diamonds at Angels View and it was $600... I do always check jewelry that are sold as a costume and could never find anything real.. all junk and not cheap either...
@fabergeegg17227 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I too live in California and the thrift stores are outrageously price. I used to work in an antique store and antique dealers used to tell me the thrift stores have caught on and they hire antique dealers to look over things that come into the store before they go out on the sale's floor and they check if anything is antique and if so how much is it worth? Its ridiculous.

Jade color comes from the minerals it is exposed too. Both are jade but you are correct as to which you should have purchased.

What an amazing week of finds! Congrats on the Cartier. I love all the stuff that you bought. You have such a good eye for quality. You found so much stuff, It's like you are the "Thrift Hunter Jewelry Store". I'll bet your Mom loves to see what you come home with. She can always accessorize her outfits with the inventory until you sell them. I hope that you get to keep shopping some on the weekends. I think that after a while, you will probably start to miss it. Maybe Saturdays and Sundays? It will definitely be the 50% off days then so no telling what kind of deals that you will get even if the selection is sometimes picked over. Good luck! (Make a few videos so we don't go into withdrawal!)
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't even remember half the stuff my family has of jewelry I've given away over the years. My mom is pretty good about giving stuff back if she isn't wearing it and swapping it for something else. I haven't shown any of this stuff to them yet because I'm sure a few would go 'missing' if I did. Maybe if I get a few thousand more subscribers I could keep making videos haha. I'll be using any spare time to hit sales whenever possible as always. I like watching my videos too, I've seen this one almost 10 times by now. I need more videos from people like you with big finds so that I don't go in to withdrawal either! Thanks for watching

Pickings have been slim here lately. I did get a 1 oz sterling bracelet today from Goodwill for $4. I'm hoping that the garage sales are good enough on Friday so I can bundle a few finds together to make a video. Otherwise, there's not enough to film. Stand by!

Hobo Nickel! That silver necklace with chain that had the carving in the side saying "guide My Career" is called a hobo nickel. It was carved from a coin. They are collectible and worth a lot at auction

Oh Yeah I saw some old lady trying to ask about those cars and then you got them lol. The struggle is real. I went to sign my name for a place in line and almost got beat up by the old people crew! Estate sales are no joke. Can't wait for the next one!
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
I was there the first day at like 4:30 am or something to put my name on the list and was 9th in line. I know all of those dealers and more, it is definitely intense. Those people do it full time though, so I understand the pressure. If there's a lot of jewelry at any future sales, you know I'll be there. Thanks

WOW! I just subscribed! I love your videos! Your knowledge is fantastic at a young age too which is super! I must say, some of those beautiful pieces of silver jewelry and the gorgeous gold jewelry are going to be used as scrap? Ouch! that hurts to hear because I think old and beautiful jewelry like that shouldn't be destroyed. BTW, I used work in an antique store and LOVED IT!! I an a huge lover of antiques as well. Oh! BTW, that Waterford vase is astonishing to me because you got it so cheap! WOW! Good for you!!

Wow. What a good haul! Beautiful jewelry!!! Just an FYI: The old comedy/tragedy silver pendant necklace piece you have, that says good luck in your career--I think I saw that it was signed from Dore Scharey, who was a very famous movie producer in maybe the 40s or 50s.... Check into that, it may have more than just material value. I'm curious to see what you find out. Thanks for sharing all of your finds!

Yeah it looks like "The Next Voice You Hear" was a film that starred Nancy Reagan in 1950. Would be incredible if I could find someone to prove it was given to her, that would be cool. I'll definitely do more digging.
@TerriSamson007 жыл бұрын
That would be so cool if it turns out to be worth a fortune!!! Maybe you can find a picture of him giving it to her or something. Keep me posted. I can't wait to hear if you find anything out!!! Good luck!!!

About 8 years of getting up at 5am 3 days a week driving around for 5 hours looking around. Buy things that catch your eye and do research on the items you bought. You learn a thing or two and maybe make a couple bucks. Thanks for watching.

Thrift Hunter Wow-Awesome! I’m brand new, and hungry for knowledge. Planning to sell vintage and antiques as a full-time gig. I’m obsessed with your videos right now, thank you for making them!!!
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
That's great, I had a lot of fun while I was doing it full time. Jewelry is the single best thing a new person can start buying. Each piece costs $3 to ship or less, and everyone is looking for unique vintage pieces right now. An acid testing kit runs about $20, a cheap tool that's easy to learn. Look for stuff that is obviously expensive and ask how much. Don't be afraid to ask people for better deals and ask everyone if they have jewelry. Thanks
@ThriftHunter6 жыл бұрын
Sure, some people like to say you just have the eye for it. I think for me it was pretty basic, I went after the markings. Everything that is worth something is marked. Glass, pottery, jewelry, rugs, artwork, dolls, records, etc. If something is marked, it makes it fairly easy to search for it on the internet. As I've said before, the eBay forums and other forums can answer pretty much any question on anything that has value. Went to a lot of garage sales, bought stuff, and learned a lot. Thanks

I've been enjoying your videos over the past few years. Here's some constructive advice that is not personal but has to do with presentation: You should moisturize your hands. Dip them in Vaseline. Or get a manicurist to recommend a regime. It will do wonders.

do you clean the silver before you sell it? also can you make a video of how you clean it if you do ? plz thank you
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
I rarely clean any of the silver unless someone I know wants to buy it and wear it. I use Wright's silver cream, it comes with a sponge, soak that in water, scoop up some silver cream and go to town. Wash with water and fine polish with a microfiber cloth. I might polish like a silverplated flatware set or just clean up some hallmarks to read them better. Other than that I don't clean any of it.

will you list these as green stone etc. or will you spend the time trying to find the exact stone name? curious. I know identification can be pretty time consuming. is it worth it? or will they sell regardless?
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
I guess I usually take the time to look up the stone. I'll maybe just throw a couple of names in there for keyword searches. It really doesn't matter, I think with eBay no matter what you have bidders will determine the value as they are the experts. Thanks for watching.

I looked at it again, I think nephrite jade is a likely one. Edit: Which apparently is what Maw Sit Sit is. thanks

Mmmm, I'm inclined to disagree. Nephrite doesn't have that many black inclusions. Jade is worth more than MMS, so I sincerely hope that you're right!

"ebay store: Thrifthunter4you has 0 items for sale." Son, you have to get things listed before you upload these videos. People forget or lose interest quickly...I was ready to buy.
@ThriftHunter7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it will probably take me the next year or more to get all of that listed lol. I work 6 days a week full time and thrift on my day and a half off. Had a half day today, took the rest of the day to make the video. I try to get around 5 listings done a week if I'm lucky. The bigger dollar items go first and usually pay off my initial investment quickly. Then the rest goes in to my huge pile of I'll get to it eventually.
@kaseythompson46707 жыл бұрын
Oh boy, do I understand that. Cautionary tale: I had my own business for several years and was very successful. The only problem was that it didn't pay the mortgage, so I worked a full-time job plus my side business (just like you). After several years of this, I got burned out in a major way. My advice, ignore assholes like me and do what fits into your schedule; no more, no less. If you love it and have fun doing it, protect it by treating it like it's breakable...because it is. Best of luck to you, TH!

Yeah I just got a new job at a bank and that's my main focus. I got my fancy finance degree and full time work so this is more for fun. Honestly, I don't think I'll be picking very much any more after I start my new job. I still will when I can, but videos will be like one a month or something. I hope I'm wrong, but I always chase the money. Thanks
