If you reverse the bucket on the digger you can square out the corners, might save your life.

Love your videos wish they was longer 👍 How thick / deep is that concrete? What grade is that concrete? C25? C30? What do you mean by toe on the concrete you mentioned it several times? Looking forward to the next episode, please get plenty of footage of the under pinning that sounds very interesting and never seen it before. Thanks for the video 👍✅🤙👊💯💪

Hi James, The footings were 2.5m deep and 600mm wide, as per building control's instructions. The toe is basically the underpinning and will be shown in an upcoming video. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. All the best, John 😊

Is the foundation that deep because the clay is in poor condition? Ive never seen trenches dug so deep for a foundation 😂
@BuildWithAE3 жыл бұрын
The footings had to be so deep due to the surrounding trees, and the risk of ground shrinkage or swell they can cause. The worst part is, they're being chopped down soon 😔 All the best, John 😊

@@BuildWithAE After all that the trees are coming down? Nooooooo!!!
@mikekelly75063 жыл бұрын
Whats the reasoning for the footings being that deep ,really enjoy your videos lads.
@neomancer863 жыл бұрын
from the last videos, because of the trees
@wayneleone3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Roots could get below a regular footing and disturb it over time.
@davebadger1003 жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with roots. Its to do with the type of soil and proximity of trees to a building. Trees are notorious for affecting water content of soil. In periods of sustained drought trees will suck enormous amounts of water from the ground causing shrinkage in soil. This leads to the ground shrinking away from footings causing subsidence. Clay is particularly susceptible to this. Conversely in periods of sustained wet weather clay and other absorbent soils can suffer "heave", whereby they expand so much it forces the footings up. By digging deeper footings you mitigate shrinkage and heave by getting down to solid ground below the water table not affected by water content changes.
@wayneleone3 жыл бұрын
@@davebadger100 thanks for explaining. Always thought the worry was roots would heave/press against or even the foundation.
@BuildWithAE3 жыл бұрын
Dave explained the reason perfectly 👌🏻

Shutter them up guys when your down that deep. Know a guy who lost his life and he was only down 1.4 meters. It’s not worth it for a days money...
