Fair play to the lecky for working out what was what on that existing circuit. Looked a rather busy array of wiring. Takes a tidy logical mind to rewire that. Proper challenge 👍👍

Richie I wouldn't mind betting that kitchen ceiling joist is not moving because it's hanging off the floor boards! doubt if they would have continued the floor joists into the neighbouring property for fire and noise transmission reasons. having said that they ran a 15mm copper water pipe in the dirt to serve two houses so I suppose anything is possible! that is going to be a headache for you to replace? Good that you vid most of the work you do, it will be on hand to show building control if they want evidence of any hidden works. They can be a bit awkward sometimes ! Based on what knowledge? As far as I’m aware you definitely shouldn’t mix hep pipe and speed fit fittings and vice versa. So based on that how is it worse?
@hammadshah3153

@@Mr_A_Builders on the John Guest FAQs it mentions hep2O fittings can be used with inserts, but u won't get any guarantees from john guest. Compression fittings are the most likely to spring a leak on copper, never mind plastic. Love the channel by the way, not having a go, just offering my educated opinion
@hammadshah3153
@hammadshah3153 Ай бұрын
@@Mr_A_Builders Thiss is the FAQ about compression Can I connect Speedfit pipe to a compression fitting? Yes, but only if the pipe and fittings are compatible. Compression fittings with a short tube stop depth or brass olives should not be used with Speedfit pipes. Use a standard pipe insert (TSM) and follow the instructions of the compression fitting manufacturer when connecting to plastic pipework. The connection should not need more than 2 full turns after the olive has gripped the pipe. JG Speedfit recommends using soft copper olives, always ensure the nut and olive are in place before inserting the pipe insert.
@hammadshah3153
@hammadshah3153 Ай бұрын
This is the FAQ about hep2O on the JG website. I've mixed them in the past and never had any issues Are JG Speedfit fittings compatible with the Hep2O system pipework? Yes, as long as the correct manufacturer's pipe insert is used. However, JG Speedfit fittings are designed and tested to be compatible with JG Speedfit pipe. JG Speedfit cannot guarantee the specification of other manufacturers' pipe therefore mixing JG Speedfit with Hep2O is not advised.

Are those red tiles underneath the black ones an asbestos type? I dealt with something very similar recently and I was told it had asbestos on it.
@Mr_A_Builders
@Mr_A_Builders Ай бұрын
I haven’t touched them and have no need to so I couldn’t tell you sorry. The dark tiles will be removed and the floor will be self levelled. The red tiles are flush with the lounge floor and the new screed. 👍🏻

The Aluminium foil that Matt wrapped around the lantern reveal at point 14.11 on the video is that to act as vapour barrier ? Iwas wondering why he did not bring it down to bottom of the joists. Presumably the level he finished at is the top of the roof level.
@Mr_A_Builders
@Mr_A_Builders 29 күн бұрын
It is a vapour barrier and I think this one is called Alutrix. The level it was taken to was below the bottom OSB deck to the top of the metal web joists so below that is classed as part of the room so no need to go any lower. Hope that answers your question

Yes Mark, certainly. What you need to do is bump up the slide down across the countersink so the tip top side bar flexes the shrink wrap. If the slap trap falls butter side you've gone too far. Hope that helps?

I do think those roof lights you're using have an under-spec overhang/internal tolerance in terms of allowing for you to form and insulate the upstand, especially as regulations change like the new cavity sizes etc. Why bother going to all the hassle of 150mm cavity when we go and put 3m-9m wide bi-folds and a load of roof lights in, with upstands the thickness of essentially an insulated garden shed? Its completely pointless. Like trying to block up a drafty old door with a pair of old holy undies. What do you think? Obviously passes BC but still... I think the studs themselves still cause a cold-bridge and mould to form on the plaster finish over time due to hot moist air rising into the atrium void, even with the moisture barrier as the moisture is already inside from things like cooking and breathing etc. I think it would be better to insulate like you have, then bridge over the top of the studs with 25mm insulation (either on the outside of the upstand before roofing with felted warm deck-type PIR. Or normal PIR on the inside, then plasterboard on top with 45mm screws or some fixings similar to warm deck) . Roof light doesn't allow for this but probably should...? Its not even that big of a change to their design when you think about it...
