Honestly, be proud of yourself. As a qualified welder I can tell you that you did a fine job and you should continue to weld as you are showing very fast and promising progress. The plastic arch might move about if you pour boiling water on it. Most plastics are thermosetting.

Not letting the set backs get you down.. got some wide plastic arches to fit to my mk2 polo replacing steel ones I welded on few year back… just keep doing your things, aslong as it’s safe and your happy with the end result that’s all that matters. It's a lot of work. You can't just slap fibreglass on and shape it. You need to make a prototype, a mould, a negative and then you can lay fibreglass.. Personally I think there will be a company somewhere that sells steel fab arches as blanks that can be tacked on with a welder.. Probably Europe.

If you want to do a proper job and learn a proper skill you'd make the entire quarter panel and extended arch from sheet steel, however at today's technology level you'd be making lightweight hollow parts from carbon fibre. Similar to the fibre glass but far more dangerous for your health.

Go careful with the spray wax and welding, many a car have gone up in flames due to waxoyl when being repaired. Wax the cavities after you’re done.

A handy tool for body work is Cleco Fasteners. You can get them in a kit off of Amaz0n. You can get them in clamps, or 1/8” or 1/4” hole fasteners. They’re like a reusable pop rivet. Hold material in place while you’re working on it.

Maybe throw the whole arch in an oven on low heat to fully saturate the arch with heat. Be careful and go a lower heat and maybe creep up on the heat if you need. Good luck.

I think you will start to think it be better with tarmac arches , problem is fitting and cutting to put bigger tubs in then you want to Turret it it’s a slippery slope your on. I know I did same as you cheap arches 😊

What about zacspeed arches they have a similar 'look' to the plastic ones but made for the mk2? If you wanted to try those plastic ones again, maybe cut off inner lip bit flush and it could bend easier. Do what you do Marcus...end of the day the cry babies are across all cars that are old go to car meets bitching about the mods etc....follow then to the car park and they get into kia rio lol..
