hiya guys , about cray fish , and the license the environmental dept will issue a license for free , 1 per crate , 1 crate per adult and every child , so a family of 6 would be given 6 licence 1 for every crate which then would be attached to the crates , you have to tell them which river / brook your gonna work and they will agree or suggest another strip , rules for cray fishing a safe rope or cord for lifting the crate out , the crate has to be otter friendly , if you look on the environmental site they will tell you the size the necks must be under , when you pull your crate check the cray fish place any native white claw back it is against the law to put signal cray fish back , ( red claw ) if your lucky enough to find a native white claw you must inform the environmental agency as they need then to go in and save native ones move them or make it safe for our native whites , the signal cray fish are much bigger than our native whites , and are damaging all our rivers, brooks and waterways as they drill holes in the sides of the banks making them crumble , any how sorry for rambling on lol i dont half chops but i thought a little info on this might encourage fellow fishermen to invest in a crate or 2 you can buy legal ones on the WWW :)

Thanks for the in-depth reply .Anything that helps thin out the Red Signal Crayfish is fine by me.I personally believe they are causing catastrophic damage to our future fish eggs and fry.

high fat oil content and high starch not good for the fish i like the series but i have to question the welfare of the fish after you have fished for them...... you dont seem to care and some methods are very dated sending out a bad image in modern day fish care

love to hear some history of using them as bait. Over here in the US it's fairly common to use fast food fries as bait. The're a great thing to use when taking small kids fishing, alot easier for them to use over hooking worms, makes for good first impressions about fishing with small kids too.

The crayfish are a problem but they are also partially responsible for the massive growth in fish size in rivers over the last 15yrs. The chub and barbel have been munching down on them and growing fat as a result so its swings and roundabouts in terms of damage, how it will turn out in the long run nobody knows

I live in Meriden, Kansas and we have good fishing but not the variety they have. Graeme is probably about my age and very knowledgeable on all kinds of fishing. I enjoy watching . I'd definitely like to go fishing with him. Maybe not swimming.

Hi Graeme. Nice videos and always a joy to watch! On this one, in the beginning you have there a series of marlin bills treated. I have a very old bill, from a marlin that I caught in 2000 in Cuba (and unfortunately was killed... today it would have stay alive!!) and would like to give it some love. It's not been properly stored but I hove someone can make a good piece out of it. Can you advise someone to do such things to look as good as yours?

My fish were all eaten in the local community and the bills were prepared by a professional taxidermist .I had a go at doing them myself,but our climate does not allow them to dry out properly before they seal with epoxy.Try the internet to see if anyone has tips on how to colour and treat them.
