Fun fact: Did you know Liszt and Chopin were buddies. Apparently Liszt was able to SIGHT-READ Chopin's works, even some of his hardest etudes. It is even rumoured Liszt could play Chopin's "Bees" in octaves. As one could imagine, this annoyed Chopin to a degree but also deepened his respect for him and he dedicated his Op.10 etudes to Liszt, his dear friend :3

Liszt wanted to make pieces that only he could play. But later he realised he wanted his works to be remembered, so he simplified his pieces so others could BARELY play them.

As a pianist, I think there's no way to compare them. Liszt has unrivaled technique; his technical skills are teetering on superhuman. On the other hand, Chopin's melodies are unparalleled. True, Liszt has beautiful pieces as well, but no one can come close to Chopin's superiority in producing touching works of art.

I always play Chopin's pieces because they are soulful and musical...but Liszt is still amazing. I also don't play Liszt for a reason, my hands are not big, and even though you can't deny Chopin's pieces have a lot of octaves, Liszt does too in a more technical way. Chopin won in my opinion.

I like Liszt because he's the true embodiment of the word "virtuoso". But in my personal preference, Chopin takes the cake. He has a diverse repertoire of music available for any pianist in any level. Liszt has only a few that are considered easy, and those easy pieces are still even considered difficult. Both are giants for the piano and I like them both.
