Epic Road Trip Across Flores Indonesia | Travel Documentary

We have 11 days, one small scooter and a big road trip ahead of us as we take on the ultimate adventure of driving across the underrated island of Flores Indonesia to discover the natural wonders, cultural history, beautiful remote villages and diverse landscapes that make this trip one of the best we've ever had in Indonesia. Most people come to Flores from Bali or Lombok to visit the famous Komodo islands, but there's so much more that this island has to offer that many travellers rarely see. From the unique Kelimutu volcano to traditional Manggarai and Belaraghi villages and endless blue beaches, join us on an epic trip across Flores island and let's discover another side to Indonesia you can't find anywhere else.

Our day trip included: private boat, snorkelling gear, bbq lunch, water, national park entry fee. Day trips and overnight camping trips are possible, make sure you negotiate with your driver to get a fair price.

WL Guesthouse (Labuan Bajo) - $16 USD a night (friendly people and amazing place, we left our large luggage with them while we did our road trip)

Mahakali Lodge (Kelimutu/Moni) - $13 USD a night (including breakfast)
Sunset Cottages (Maumere) - $12.5 USD a night (including breakfast)

- Accommodation prices in Riung are higher than anywhere else we visited in Flores, this was one of the cheapest rooms available when we visited.

Flores is marvelous 👍 Moke (what they call their local arrack) is made from either sugar palm or wine palm, unfortunately I can’t tell the difference from seeing the fruit at 12:22 😂 The thing with eastern Indonesia is that they don’t really have the tradition to eat out, so traditional food typical to the area can only be enjoyed if you have access to home-cooked meals. Most warungs only sell dishes from western Indonesia. Like this Javanese-style warung at 14:40 where they served you tripe (not tongue) along with your meatballs 😅 This small hut here 16:15 is the representation of their female ancestors, a place where they place offerings. Most people there are Christian (Catholic) but they still follow their old beliefs, please be respectful. Oh well, at least in Flores the coffee is good and the moke is strong 😁 Cheers! 🍻 🇮🇩

Flores populations are majority Christian, did you notice along the way in every place you are visiting especially in villages of flores you seldom see any mosque in the village. Flores are similar to eastern of Indonesia are majority populations are Christian especially in North Sulawesi province. if you traveling around minahasa land in North Sulawesi province from Tomohon to tondano you will see Church everywhere especially in the village you only can find 2 or 3 Church and there are no mosque. even though there few are Muslim but most of them stay in the town of tondano or tomohon are 1 or two mosque that you can see. it's different if you traveling around in the west of Indonesia there are many mosque in the city , town and village especially in Java province because majority populations in the west of Indonesia are Muslim. but Muslim in Indonesia are muslim Moderat different from Muslim in the Arab countries or Muslim in the middle east. Muslim in Indonesia are rooted from cultures and communities of Indonesia people are very strong in diversity that is why Muslim in Indonesia they can live harmony with others religious like Christian, Hinduism, buddhism, Catholicism and others religious too. Indonesia Muslim based on our Motto of Bhineka Tunggal Ika means Berbeda-beda tapi tetap satu in English word it's say that Even though we are different in many ways like different traditions, language ( local mother tongue in every province in Indonesia ) traditional customs, music, food , religious, ras or ethnic groups but we are One Nation of Indonesia. United In Diversity as a symbolic of Eagle ( Burung Garuda ) that we are under protection by the eagles wings to live our daily life together without any different because we have the same rights to live together as One Nations in Indonesia. Enjoy every moment in your Traveling around Indonesia and always keep in touch with local people wherever you go and just say Halo to them or say Selamat pagi ( good morning in morning time ) Selamat siang ( good afternoon in day time ) or Selamat sore ( good evening after sunset ) and Selamat malam ( good night in the night time before our bedtime ) etc . some local people maybe feel shy to a foreigner because they will be not understand your language and because they can speak your language and didn't know how to start a conversation with you that's why they just keep smiling at you. but if you just say some words in Bahasa Indonesia then they will come to you closer then they will feel friendly with you because they may though that you can speak in bahasa Indonesia. it's good to use Google translate to helping you communicate with the local people. but some place in Indonesia especially in villages they will use local language and may not use bahasa Indonesia then it will difficult for you to use Google translate because it's must translate to bahasa Indonesia first then the Google translate will be recognized the words that they are talking about. even I myself will not understand their local language we only can understand each other in bahasa Indonesia to communicate with our neighborhood from different provinces around Indonesia. so you should learn basic of bahasa Indonesia to help you keep in touch with the local people in Indonesia.
