Epic Road Trip in a Vintage Porsche!

I took the Porsche 356 on a 5 day 1700 mile road trip. I met up with the Arizona Outlaws for 3 days of the drive. We went to Winslow AZ, Mexican Hat UT and the Monumental Valley.I also solo camped at the Lost Dutchman State Park near Phoenix Arizona as well as the Mathers Camp Ground near the Grand Canyon.

Hello Mr. Jerod, I was a longtime subscriber of your videos and really enjoyed your 356 beat out, your FJ40 clean up, and your moto engine install videos. I always looked forward to watching your vids and especially the silent ones which I would often watch two or three times. I miss seeing your attention to detail and unique filming style. I hope you are doing well . I totally understand the direction you chose, but for selfish reasons, I wish you could do more 'garage' type videos. It's really good to see people driving and enjoying the vintage cars - I took a cross-country this past April and can't wait to go back in the Southwest region, especially with winter coming on here in CT. Great video! Car ran well I take it. Wife and I moved to Phoenix a couple years ago. Still need to get north more often. Sedona has been the place we visit most when folks come to town. I'll retire in a few years. I want to get a Corvair convertible for cruising around the state.

No mechanical issues, the car ran great. As a group we stayed in hotels but I had a two day drive to meet up with the group and to get home so I camped on those nights.

It actually wasn’t that hard to do. But the bike is surprisingly small in person.

I don’t think it burns any oil, but it does leak a little bit. I don’t usually need to add any between oil changes. This trip was 1700 miles and there was no noticeable drop in oil level.

I have a 1958 356A that has Solex 40PII-4 carbs that are in need of some attention. I wanted to see if you are still running the Chinese Solex replacements on your 356, and if you are still satisfied with them? Thanks.

I just removed those carbs last week. They were still working great and I have no complaints with them. However, I recently discovered that the camshaft I installed when rebuilding my engine is designed to work with the smaller zenith carbs not the solex carbs, there is a different cam made for the solexes. So I installed some zeniths and now the car has more power and idles better than it ever has. Apparently it was over carbureted before. If you engine is set up to use solex carbs then I think the reproduction carbs are a good way to go.

@@Jerod_Helt Thanks for the quick reply. I ended up shipping my Solex carbs off (yesterday) to John Truman for a proper rebuild. Happy to hear you found a good fit with the Zeniths.
