I can imagine, would have been amazing! It’s funny, I had a similar conversation about Fraser Island. This trip was the first time I’ve been back since I was a child. It’s still just as stunning, but boy has it changed! Bollards, police, rangers, designated camping areas, permits, no camp fires etc…. But I actually appreciate that it is all necessary, to keep it beautiful for generations to experience.

Those of you with DPFs: don’t forget to get underneath and clear out any weeds etc caught around them. That could cause a fire during a burn. One LC300 burnt to the ground in the middle of WA about 18 months ago because of a DPF burn that caused a fire.

Was out there early July doing the same things. Mozzies and flies not really a problem then but the rain would have brought them out. The rain also meant a change of plans for our group as the weather threatened and most tracks were closed. Would be good to mention how your group managed calls and monitoring on UHF channel 10. A magic trip and will be going back again next June.
@WildTouring4 ай бұрын
Yeah I think the rain definitely had something to do with the bug situation. It also meant that the desert was alive with vegetation and wildflowers though, so I wouldn’t have had it any other way! I mention the track UHF channel in the next vid 👍🏼

Hi Cam, just watching, the Epic Simo Desert Adventure where you've stopped at Desert Camp 1 and you asked the boys, "what they thought so far," and they both said, "it was not what they were expecting". I'd be interested to know (next time you're talking with them) what they were expecting? I had a very similar experience the first time I drove across the Nullabor, it was nothing like I thought it was going to be but It was great all the same. Great vids, watch them on Sunday morning while having my coffee and wishing we were there. Cheers.

Congrats fella, I'm now enjoying you're crossing of the Simpson west to east, yet to get right across it, set out last April year, got to a camp at Curtain Springs, the remnants of a cyclone hit, massive low dumped a shit load of rain on us and ha presto, the Simpson got shut up, bugga. The weird side of it, the temperature drops from 38° to 12° after the rain, it twas cold. Next day we spot something lying on the road, couldn't fathom what it was, so approach slowly, it's a dingo laying on the bitumen on his back, tummy sunny side up, presumably trying to get warm. Never seen anything like it, bet he was freezing, as I said 38° down to 12° overnight. What I wasn't to know, the God's were shinning on me, as we headed away down sth to spend some time elsewheres other than the Simpson I begin to have funny sensations, turns out I was suffering mini strokes, spent a week in Whyalla Hospital. Not sure I wanted to actually be in the desert with that occuring. All good again now, well good enough, haha.
@WildTouring4 ай бұрын
😮 glad to hear you were able to get to hospital and get yourself sorted! Sounds like it was all meant to be. I don’t know how the animals do it out there. We had temps down to -2 overnight, and in high summer it’s pushing 50. Amazing they can survive those kinds of conditions!

Hi Cam, a bit too much talking, not enough scenery and action for my liking, sorry. But I am only 1 of 137k subs you got, so what do I know ;-) For us it was good to do those corrugations on the mt dare side at the end of the crossing cause if something failed, it was after the crossing. Only one spotlight for loose but yeah, they are horrendous.
@ianweal30814 ай бұрын
Christ, they were horrendous in August 1999, appears nothing's changed. We did that section with our trailer, mostly 1st gear & so slow but we made it thru no issues. Camped up in Alice Springs, couple days later a family arrive, their camper is so damaged, he's cursing & carrying on "They can't call that a road, caused so much damage" After about an hour or so another camper arrives on a tilt tray, axle completely gone. Same scenario. I sat back and said to myself, "it was fine if you approached it with the finesse it deserved, low & slow." I'm now enjoying you're crossing of the Simpson west to east, yet to get right across it, set out last year, got to camp at Curtain Springs, the remnants of a cyclone hit, massive low dumped a shit load of rain on us and ha presto, the Simpson got shut up, bugga.
