Hey Brendan , i have been fishing my entire life since i was 2 years old , for last several years i have been fishing at the ocean but have personally hated fishing the ocean just cause its not as enjoyable or fun to me as the fresh water fishing , well after seeing your vid i feel much better knowing that i can bring my spining reel with me and go fishing with small piece of bait on a small circle hook or J hook just cause im using 12 pound monofillament , i would like to thank you for changing my mind set and getting this ole boy fired up for fishing in ocean cause you reminded me a very important life lesson with the sport of fishing , cause you see im the kind of casual diehard angler that catch or no catch no matter only matter i go out there guns blazing with my pole and cast out as i spend time with my pole fishing

Most awesome to see, after thumbing up this vid, is that thers is no thumbs down. (if I have the right views) You handed over a great experience: closing a nice shark landing, to your Dad. An experience tought to be able to give, after learning from your Dad. And those two learnings tought to us through KZbin. I'm enjoying your shares every now and then when time allow. Thanks to these "small moments" and the support to your small team with a big heart! Haven't bought one single piece (Dutch seawaters seem to be different)... but, thanks to you, your Dad an your team, enthousiastically trying. Thanks Skipper!

Once again you presented an amazing and very useful video to me as a new angler. Of course you are addressing the public that fishes in the seas of North and South America. In the Mediterranean where I fish, we don't have as many and big fish and the fishing is not as efficient compared to what I see in your videos. This results in sitting for three or four hours and not getting bitten. this of course disappoints me a little. Any way thanks for your videos, I've learned a lot from them. I wish you to continue like this, to have health and to catch many fish

IMO the pyramid sinker works better because it has more surface area to grab the sand. Especially when you give it a few jerks (after casting) to build up the sand around it. A better sinker to use is a pyramid sputnik sinker. It uses both a pyramid and the metal arms.
@aaronbuster2452 Жыл бұрын
On live bait fish, why do you hook them through the head instead of the tail? Here's my thought process: When the sinker is stationary, the fish is swimming as usual. A head hook is going to disrupt its swimming more than a tail hook. For trolling, a head hook is better so it's being dragged forward.

From my understanding it depends on the area and what fish eat there. For example here where I'm at for shark fishing they love eating blue fish but go 90 miles north and they won't touch them and eat only sting rays. I think depends on the area but who knows. Some days I'll throw anything out there as bait just to see if it works never know until you try it

I have to be honest, as a self proclaimed student of yours, everytime you mention needing fresh free live bait and you pull out a casting net.... The hardest is learning laws and regulations, I did some reading and research always beforehand but I still don't know about casting nets (right, that's what they are called?) For catching bait fish out here in California. I'm out there hunting sand crabs, muscles and trying to hook bait fish with sabikis . You did do one sabiki California video, but I get so jealous when you have more east coast videos with the casting net. Catching the bait fish to me is my pr still 🤣 . I count my 3 rock fish, star fish, and small stingray just luck, they were all on different days as well.
@HeySkipper2 жыл бұрын
Wow thank you for taking the time to write to me. I hear your concern. There are many different regulations you need to look out for. I’m not sure about cali, but if I were there I would just keep catching with sabiki rigs and do what you do and catch crabs. I think the baits you catch with sabiki will be great for the flounders on the pier! Maybe consider making a trip to Florida one day!

@@HeySkipper It's an honor to recieve a reply. I belive fishing is an important hobby, skill, and science to really learn. The various locations you have offered through your videos for fishing have provided lots of useful information. I've gone through almost all of them. Another trouble was learning how to read my rod, I was putting too heavy of a sinker, I believe you do have 1 video mentioning how to read a rod but it's an older video. Your east coast and Mexico videos really do match up with other youtubers in the abundance of fish. It just seems way easier. It's motivated me to travel more to the beach to learn how to fish more professionally hoping to take a boat, as im limited to just the surf nd piers, to really find out why everywhere else besides California is great for fishing. I appreciate your time and won't take up anymore. I'm sure if I continue on my path I'll cross with you someday. Till then, thank you sir for clear and well worded teachings. It helps with remembering. It's 6:13 pm currently as I end this message so goodnight to you and your family .

The regulations on life's simple pleasures have gotten absurd. Why? Control. It's very difficult to breath anymore. Unfortunately this creates a death spiral where more and more break the law.. and in turn, laws become harder and more absurd. The change in just 10 years should wake people up to what's happening here.. but? idk..
