Eric, these speedrun episodes are likely among the best pieces of content on the internet - not just in chess but in general. Watching you play is wonderful and instructive and fun, as usual, but your approach and demeanor are even more meaningful, especially in world like the one we're living in right now. Thank you man, truly.

Hi Eric, your videos have been a great source of solace for me while awaiting spinal cord surgery. Your chill nature, combined with the complexity of the positions, gives my mind luft above the pain. I just had a successful operation, and this huge burst of content has been great to watch while I'm stuck on my lazyboi. I'd love to see some more Italian games at this level if you feel like it. when you have heavy contrasts in the footage with highs and lots of blacks and the cam is in automatic exposure the slightest movements (changing tones from dark black to just black a little bit) leads to exposure changes. 2 solutions: not wearing black. manual exposuring. anyway... thnx for any content. especially this speedrun is heavily instructive... and its always a pleasure to watch and hear you as you have a very nice voice. pretty symphatic. remembers me always a lil bit to bob ross... :)

@CommissionerSleer2 ай бұрын
If Eric had seen it and calculated it was poisoned he would definitely have said. It's a nice position to not see a free rook and still be winning. That's why people often play better when they're losing: you look harder for good moves then and aren't spoilt for choice with good-enough moves.

I love to see more English opening as a English Opening afficianado . Weirdly enough I tend to favor the 2.g3 against e5, but it is just personal preference . First time I saw the variation you got game 1. At the same I never play the move in that order. I tend to go Nf6 which can transpose into a neo Catalan if they go QID or could transpose into a Grunfeld if they go for a KID and they are structure I like because I play the indian defense . Though I could also just have a big white center if they don't go for the grunfeld and castle. I think the only opening I tend to struggle with the English is the Caro Kann because it tend to translate into Slav or Semi Slav defense which I'm not really in tune with the theory around those defense. Sometimes just to simplify thing against the Caro I just go for the Panov attack (not the full exchange one) just because it tend to go into similar structure to a QGD structure (1. c4 c6 2. e4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. d4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e6 6. Nf3) or just something like that (1. c4 c6 2. e4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. d4 Nf6 5. Nc3 Nc6 6. Nf3 Bg4 7. Be3) which are both more comfortable to me I really love seeing more and more of those speedrun episodes Sorry for this long comment but I just felt in love a lot with chess again recently.

26:40 "yes it's very clear to me, let's do the procedure. Eric: why are you cheating?"
@eclecticexplorer78282 ай бұрын
In analyzing game 1, there comes the moment where Eric remarks, "Wait, this isn't good for white?" At the end of the sequence, he comments that black is compensated for the loss of the piece, but black did get 2 pawns for the piece, so it is only one centipawn loss in the exchange. Black also gets two united passed pawns in the center. The queen is poised to come to g3, so white will have to move his king up to prevent it, and white's pieces are cowering in a 2x3 block on the two back ranks. Black controls more of the board -- definitely not where white wants to be.
