Launched back in 2009, the well-tried-and-tested Ultimate Compound was one of the first correction compounds that moved the game on in the world of paint correction. Both of these products work well when worked by hand as well, but using by DA machine is always the most efficient. If I'm pressed for time and the customer wants his car back before the end of the day, then I like to use the Ultimate Compound followed up with AutoGlym's Radiant Wax Polish (Super Resin Polish in a big posh tin). That always gives really nice results and the finish always pops. They are well-priced too.
@owensteele16456 ай бұрын
One off-label use for Ultimate Compound would be to use it on the car's exterior windows. The Ultimate Compound does a surprisingly good job of reducing the arc-shaped swirls caused by the rear wiper sweeping across dry and dusty rear windscreens. Just don't get the polisher too hot when doing this.

Great video Dave 👌 Totally learned the hardway about not cleaning cars on a nice sunny day..... its exhausting for me at the best of times. Best day is a dark gloomy day, ready for a nice sunny day drive. That Mequires stuff is absolutely brilliant on cars that aren't metallic, I had a bright red Mitsubishi Shogun V6 many years ago, and worked extremely hard with the Meguiars 3 stage process and the paint went from a dull red to the most amazing candy apple red with the best shine 👌 It was bloody hard work though. ....I'll stick to my jet black metallic Saab with a purple haze in the sunlight 😂

Amazing video Dave ! Nothing fancy out of nowhere but simple and effective explanations for the average Joe. Moreover, the products are quite easy to find and are often part of Automotive shop's discounts. Most important information given, the pad & product combination. I have my daughter's black car to rejuvenate but I have to admit it will have to wait a bit since we are having nearly 40°C here in South of France. That will be the perfect car to test a 2-steps paint correction on. Cheers for always sharing precious advices, tips and tricks with your followers 😉 Gregg

One thing I would say to anyone wanting to try machine polishing their car is RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH! It's as much an art as a science. Ideally you should have a paint depth gauge so you know how much clear coat you have to work with! You CAN burn through clear coat if you're not careful! And if you don't understand anything I've just said, YOU AINT READY FOR MACHINE POLISHING!

It's quite interesting that the early bottles on the Ultimate Polishes featured in huge letters 'Pre-Wax Glaze'. The Ultimate Polish definitely has correctional properties, as it removes any hazing left by the Ultimate Compound. It definitely adds a lot to the shine, but there is no protection in it. You still have to follow it up with a high-quality wax or sealant. One downside to the Ultimate Polish that I can find, is that it can get quite hard to buff off if it has been allowed to dry at all, so it's best used on one panel at a time.

I tried the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound last month for the first time and found it difficult to work with, I just didn't like it. I was polishing by hand using microfibre cloths doing 12 inch square sections at a time. It just wouldn't shine up. I threw the bottle in the bin and went back to my trusted Autoglym SRP. Maybe the Meguiar's stuff does need a machine polisher to get the best results. 😞

First of all, super great video =) I did a 20 hour detail on my black Audi just the other day. I used only Meguiars polish, because the paint didnt really need a compound. Why? Because one thing i learned from owning a black car for 8 years is: A black car only look good good right after a wash or detail. After 5 meters things changed. So i just gave it a little pop to the depth
@epicautomotivedetailing6 ай бұрын
Yeah for some people using polish on its own is fine. It Powders less and many users just want to freshen up the paint without taking off more clear coat 👌
@snaswedey6 ай бұрын
@@epicautomotivedetailing Have a Audi, brilliant black. Rock solid clearcoat. Sure there is some scratches but to get them out you kindsa need heavier things the Ultimate compound since the clearcoat is rock hard. So i went for a polish, instead to get some gloss and depth =) But ofcourse if the paint was in that state you worked on, compounding would be crazy not to do

Great video, love the level of detail. I was wondering if is there a certain point a product goes from cutting compound to a finishing polish? Like, is there a certain grit level or is it simply how the products are marketed?
@epicautomotivedetailing6 ай бұрын
So the ultimate compound has heavy abrasives so it does heavy work but the polish is designed to bring that shine back so compound alone is good enough for some but then again some others just want that glossy look and not too fussed about scratches so they both do different jobs in reality

Dave Dave Dave, would you believe it last week I was researching the maguire compound, polish and wax products , trying to work out why , I get it know, but where does maguires quick detailer come into it? It’s the product in bottle they package with the claybar kit. Having already got maguire clay kit, which i have used before and it really does work! I wanted to go full hog and diy it all myself, but lost interest being a bit confused with products to use and what order and the point of quick detailer!?! Which actually leaves a nice finish! The video is mint and can’t believe someone has done it at the time I needed some advice which I think this has now almost answered .

Quick detailers are just used as a finishing product for those who just wash their car and want to finish it. So the maintenance cleans. It also makes excellent clay bar lube

I think as follows: Wash and clean Apply filler Sand, more to less aggressive finish with say 3,000 Apply more filler if needed (same steps after) Wash &dry Apply primer Wash &dry Very light sand 3k Apply base coat Leave to dry Very light sand Apply second base coat Very light sand Apply clear coat Very light sand Leave to dry Apply clay bar Apply compound Apply polish The question is should i use clay bar in any other part of the process...e.g. before/ after primer; before/after base coat; before / after clear coat ?
