I didnt read them until I was 18 (yup an adult - so Im more objective then all y'all nostalgia kids) and it, despite what all my friends said, DID NOT change my life. I certainly respect elements of Rowling's writing, but its not really a big deal unless youre a kid.

People will kill me over this, but I think John Green's books and Harry Potter are kind of overrated. I've read Paper Towns by John Green and even though it's quite exciting and a very fun read, I'm not really a big fan of it. And I've read like, ALL of the HP books (except 4 and 5) and my thoughts about them are quite natural. I don't hate them, but I also don't love them that much. I think they're great and the world building is amazing, but the characters are quite bland to me. I do know that I'm a Ravenclaw, and have a Bloodhound as my patronus. I also get sorted into thunderbird as my Ilvermony house. I follow every HP news, but I never feel too much connections to them as most people do. But The Mortal Instruments series are among my favorites, you should read them! heheh, I know my comment sounded soooo biased. But if you have any John Green recommendation, tell me, maybe I'll give them a try

Omg I feel you Margot! I haven't read most of them except for Before I Fall, Gayle Foreman books and John Green books. Don't worry, you're not the only one 😊

You have to read Fangirl! It's one of my favorite contemporary books. I'm definitely surprised you haven't read any Shadowhunter book. I also haven't read Twilight either. The holidays is a great time to read Harry Potter!

I recommend looking for Alaska or Paper towns if you are going to pick up John Green

I have not read Rainbow Rowell but I own 3 of her books. I read Fault in Our Stars but have not read anymore John Green because that one ripped my heart out and then stomped on it. On a happier note..Harry Potter is an amazing series. I hope you enjoy it.

Have you read any books from Rick Riordan? He is my number 1 fav author

Well, I've only read three of the books/series/authors you mentioned (TFIOS, Fangirl, the first Twilight book), so I need to do some more reading too. I've also never read the Vampire Academy, The Selection, or Shatter Me series, or anything by Marie Lu or Laini Taylor. Someday!

Grew up with the Harry Potter movies just started reading the books this year. I highly suggest reading The Fault in Our Stars it is sad but it's a special story and it is actually the first book I've ever cried at which makes it better for me as it gave me a whole different reading experience. If I stay was exceptionally good and I plan to read the sequel. I'm actually reading City of Heavenly Fire now and I read the others in the series back in high school and boy have I missed the humor. So yeah, any of those books are really good for you to start reading :)

I vote for Before I Fall!! It has a bittersweet ending, so you shouldn't be so apprehensive to read it. ;) And of course I loved the book as a whole, surprisingly so.

I had never read or seen Harry Potter until last month (I'm 21 years old) and I am now obsessed! I was in the same boat as you, just needed to take my mind off of stuff and I'm so glad I did! You'll love it. Read Harry Potter!

Margot, I am so excited for you to read Happy Potter. Book nerd confession: I have not read ALL of them. I have read the first 3 though. I am also planning to finish off the series over Thanksgiving break, or at least get started finishing it :) Twilight was my intro to YA (I was 37 years old at the time) so I think you should read it too.

I was recently with you on the whole harry potter, never read and never watched the movies, but I recently finished reading it and I loved the series!!! it got me into fantasy

I've never read Harry Potter or seen the movies. Actually, I watched Half Blood Prince but it obviously made no sense to me because it's far into the series. I don't plan on ever reading them either. I tried when I was about 11, but I couldn't get into them. I've read much better fantasy series, so it's not necessary.

I loved this video! I just recently subscribed to your channel and have been binge watching your vids. Love your personality! Even though I love all things Harry Potter, the only book I say that you MUST read because it will make your life better is Perks of Being a Wallflower. But, I really do hope you love Harry Potter! I also enjoyed hearing you tell the things you know about it. It made me lol.. Enjoy!!

If you want a fast read (like 1-3 hour read) definitely read the first Harry Potter book and Fangirl. Their writing style is very coherent with each other that it feels like you've just spent your afternoon watching a movie. Never read any of John Green books, and the Throne of glass series ( I hate the series so I can't make myself read it)

I have read the books once long long long time ago referring to Harry Potter of course. was going through the movies again, but order of the Phoenix DVD died. can't watch the others without watching the fifth movie and so one less book for 1 new DVD. Loved your video. I love books. My book Chase run a little different David Weber, Kalayne Price, Timothy' Zahn, Taylor Anderson, Travis S. Taylor, Larry Niven, John Ringo, Tom Kratman, Karl Edward Wagner and Rin Chupeco. That's about half of my fav authors. The newer authors.

Margot, I have not read the Harry Potter Series, The Mortal Instruments Series (anything by Cassie Clare), Looking For Alaska, or Before I Fall.. of the ones you've mentioned. BUT! I have The Mortal Instruments Series and The Infernal Devices Trilogy and actually I have all these books, I don't even have to list them because I have them all. Well, I only have #1-3 and 7 of HP but my younger brother WHO DOESN'T READ AND NEVER READS AND HATES BOOKS AND NEVER PICKS UP BOOKS has all 7 HP books. I started reading The Sorcerer's Stone back in June, on my birthday, but then things kept getting in the way and I kept having other things to do and then other books were more exciting and here I am, it's almost Thanksgiving and I'm still like 1/3 of the way through the first HP book.

The first HP took me 2 weeks to read through without counting all the times (5) I just stopped dead and didn't pick it up for a year or two. My first attempt to read it was when I was eleven and it didn't go well, I ended up putting the book down after one chapter in favor of rereading a book I had already read and loved which was in the same genre. A little note about me is I almost never reread books, to date I can only name two books I have read more than once. My mum put audiobooks 4 and 5 on while driving so I knew pretty well that those first chapters I could never seem to make it through weren't a fluke and I truely didn't like the books. This time reading through I did it just so that I could tell my family and friends who have been harping on me that I've read the first one. I'm not exactly sure if it was worth my two weeks cause I came out more upset with the books than I started. On the other hand I have seen all the movies (cept for crimes of grindewald) and enjoyed the first 4, they had their own faults but not enough to ruin my enjoyment of them. I do thoroughly enjoy discussing the world, the movies, and the books too as long as no one gawks or pesters me about not having read them and not liking them. BTW I'm a Slytherin so of course I hate Harry Potter :P

Also speaking of "Until I Die" which you said in the final moments of this video! That is a great book series I read this year! Favorite book I've read this year so far though is definitely A Court of Mist and Fury! I've bought Three Dark Crowns, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (I know, I've never read it), the Thousandth Floor, Replica, and The Chemist! So we'll see if one of them changes what my favorite book of 2016 is. Loving Three Dark Crowns right now though, so good so far!

Perks?! Harry Potter and then Perks. They're both really amazing and you're going to love them! The only two on the list that I personally feel like you MUST read, because I shove them down people's throats all the time! Also I haven't read any of Cassandra Clare's books either so high five! Happy reading!
