It's kinda funny this video came out like the same day Freddie (and by Freddie I mean Brandon) released a tutorial on advanced slow motion muzzle flashes. This is slightly longer and more detailed haha.
Hey guys, week three!! This weeks effect we cover a few different concepts, all surrounding the idea behind bullet casings getting ejected out of a gun. Now, I used a pistol in this video and just kind of pretended it was an automatic weapon. The same principles apply. The first big concept I cover is tracking a matte to an object, specifically to cut something out and have a clean plate underneath it show through. Then I use Trapcode Particular to make a custom particle system which shoots the bullet casings from the Action Essentials II pack (from Video Copilot) out towards the camera. Then the final touch is to use Particular to automate placing muzzle flashes, rather than manually placing them linking them to a tracker, so that the smoke stays in the scene unaffected by the tracker, but the flashes still occur where the barrel is places. Pretty sweet.
Anyway, Check back soon for the Skyrim video, should be coming out really soon!! It's mostly done!

When the bullet shells had no gravity, it looked so cool!!! I love these tutorials, they are what inspires me to want after effects so I can make my own effects as good as Wrens...

@@SirWrender well, voice is the one thing that isn't different (except now Wren has more voices for different expressions) speaking about exponential growth stayed the same, it's more about the looks I guess and you act a bit more different, the pasting of the video is something as well. Both Wrens are great btw

Got here after watching your corridor videos. I’m a big fan of you guys! I wonder why you had to stack all these layers though.. I would’ve created 2 opacity keyframes with a loop expression using only one layer.

Hey Wren, you could've animated the opacity of a single layer rather using multiple layers. You could've created a slider control, put an expression on it (multiply the time by the frame rate, and then use "%2" to return the remainder of the division of it by 2). And then link the opacity to the the slider (multiplying by 100), and it's done. Just thought it might be useful, and using math you can apply to other things. Peace.

As someone who uses Premiere and barely touched AE (I can't even see the untouched footage without AE crashing (well, I might have exaggerated a bit)) Do you really have to do the exponential growth thing? Can't you just do it on the same track?

@wrenthereaper I should have specified, but that is what I meant. The effects may be good, but if the acting isn't solid, then it is all for naught.
