Usually when yoiu hear about it in other MLMs "QV" or qualified volume is more a point system you earn per each sale item, which can mean one sold item is 1 QV point or 10... it's not directly related to salesprice. Still thousands of objects sold every month for the higher ranks sounds insane.

That would be my thought as well, sounds like the sort of thing I could maybe imagine an extremely experienced chef with the income from their substantial restaurant business to fund buying the best high quality ingredients for their home cooking too. But that last part would be the kicker MLM's are rarely known for their reputation for quality a niche online seller will almost certainly be doing a better job at targeting the demands of connoisseur types like that. I don't know anyone like that with spices but I do know someone that is the same way with their coffee, they can afford to be picky as their small chain of niche premium coffee establishments are quite profitable. But they are also buying their super expensive coffee beans from small suppliers that grow and roast the beans themselves. Far too expensive for my taste even then, sure it's really nice coffee but not to the point that the price tag doesn't leave me thinking "Girl you crazy" and going with the cheaper alternative although I do go with whole bean coffee, instant coffee is just ick when used to that.

If there are 20 million people already involved, and the population of the US and Canada is around 370 million, then 1 in every 18.5 people in the US and Canada is already working for Epicure. So, where is a new seller supposed to find customers? Where are you supposed to find people to bring into your organisation? Obviously, a. you're not, and, b. the 20 million is a lie.

Penn & Teller did a Bullsh!t Showtime episode on MLMs, and the food ones want you to host cooking parties which require you to buy a ton of supplies and alcohol. The cost of those parties is multitudes more than the gross sales for the day, so the host ends up losing a lot of money. And yes, go into advertising. 🙂

$9.75 for 2 cornbread mixes. American. Vegan and kosher ingredients. You could buy a corn bread for $3 but it’s full of garbage. If you don’t care about your health or the quality of your food, eat it up…
@DracoTriste
@DracoTriste 3 жыл бұрын
@@rachelwood-mcgraw7634 A batch of homemade cornbread, from scratch, no premade mixes, using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry, costs about $3.04. This price includes liquids, which is not included in the following mixes. A mix costs between $0.50 and $2.00. A $0.55 box of Jiffy does contain preservatives- specifically tocopherols, Bht, and citric acid (just vitamin C). A box of Krusteaz, for $1.60, has no preservatives. So, no matter how you cut it, the MLM cornbread is more expensive and not particularly better than something less than a 1/4 of the price. Also, the MLM cornbread is NOT vegan. It includes dairy products. It’s vegetarian, but so is most cornbread by default (Jiffy is not vegetarian, but Krusteaz is for instance, and homemade is normally vegetarian unless you choose to make it with lard instead of butter). Edit: Krusteaz is also American and kosher. So the MLM isn’t special on that front either.
@DracoTriste
@DracoTriste 3 жыл бұрын
I keep thinking about cornbread being Kosher or not, and I’m pretty sure cornbread is normally Kosher anyway. I hope someone trained or practiced in Kosher practices will be able to correct me, but I’m going to say what I have learned from a quick Google dive. The dairy products in the mix need to be certified Kosher, but if your kitchen is Kosher already, then your dairy products will be Kosher and your homemade cornbread will by default be Kosher. If you do not have a Kosher kitchen, then you don’t need Kosher cornbread and the cornbread will become *un-Kosher* (tref) by being made in a kitchen that does not follow Kosher rules or by serving with meat. Any cornbread mix that does not include dairy, eggs, or meat products is Kosher by default- not just Epicure’s- specifically it’s pareve. This excludes Jiffy (in contains lard) but includes most other cornbread mixes. It’s great that there are Kosher mixes available for those who need it. But, unless you follow Kosher dietary laws, you do not need a Jew to monitor the cows being milked and do not have any reason to want that either.

I was given a bunch of their seasonings for Christmas one year. I didn't like any of them except one. It was the seasoning mix for arrabiata sauce. I ended up being able to order it online, but my name got given to the salesperson for the area. The sellers collect up everybody's money, and wait and wait and wait for more sales before they put in 'the order'. This could take a month or more. They do this to save on shipping. When I was a kid they had Amway. Suddenly a classmate from primary school would remember that we were 'friends', and show up to 'visit'. They'd have a trunk full of cleaning products that they already bought and needed to sell. Then there were the sock sellers that showed up at businesses to hawk their wares to the employees with the line "Hey, how's your sox life?" There's another atheist KZbinr that covers the MLM stuff too. His family was in it. I think his name is Genetically Modified Skeptic.

You've reminded me that I dodged the MLM/Pyramid Scheme bullet (AMWAY) many years ago. Not because of some internal, or received insight from people such as yourself (no KZbin in those pre-historic days). but because (1) I don't have a single business/hustle bone in my entire body (this is verified by family and friends); because (2) I'm fundamentally... let's see what's the word they used... oh yeah, lazy! And (3) I was already gainfully employed (Military). It wasn't until years later that I even learned what a pyramid scheme was. But I witnessed the stress and desperation they brought to people I cared about. All that to say thanks for doing this. You're probably sparing folks a world of pain.

Boy was the smell of spices strong! I thought they were mostly high-end restaurant suppliers then. Sad to see what's become of a previously well-respected local company. But the stories of the CEO being a 2nd-generation spoiled rich child of the founder who treats their employees like trash is one of the most "Victoria" things I've ever heard. 🙄 This town...

I've never seen anyone talk about Epicure and I'm SO glad you did! I used to buy their products before I found out about MLMs. To be fair, some of the spices are quite good, and I use the steamers all the time. I had hosted a "cooking party" and did reach 250$ to get the free stuff (we were maybe 8 or 9 people buying, so it added up quickly, especially since the cheapest steamer is at like 25$ and you could buy a kit with all 3, which some of us did). I'm really disappointed they don't have an income disclosure, though. I'm guessing the requirements are different in Canada...

Late to the party, but I only found this wonderful channel today. For anyone who's curious: To be a global leader you need to have at least 18 leaders under you. Each leader as well as yourself requires 6 consultants, so that's a total of 133 people in the pyramid (including you). Now, each leader's personal team needs to move 6000 QV, so the entire pyramid of a global leader needs to shift at least 114 000 QV or 14 250 $8 packets of garlic powder per month. Sounds reasonable. It's half past one in the morning, so I probably missed something and the actual number might be off, but probably not by orders of magnitude. I'm unsure whether leaders under a director count as that director's team as far as required QV goes, for example.

One of my mom's friends is into epicure, I have never met her, but she is my nemesis. Since she got into epicure my mom has gotten me giant pre-mixed spices for Christmas every year. Behind my cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, and other spices I actually use sits bottles and bottles of epicure pumpkin spice mix, egg nog spice mix, dried fruit flakes mix, etc. It's like they can sell the same spices multiple times by pre-mixing. Plus releasing new seasonal blends constantly that are just the same mix of cinnamon and nutmeg at different ratios with one other spice thrown in over and over.

Okay so, about the hostess benefits and such... you don't have to buy all the cookware and stuff. The consultant still brings those (which she would have purchased already). When you're the hostess, all you do is invite a bunch of your friends to your house, then the consultant comes and brings whatever stuff and does a demonstration, then people buy stuff, and the more stuff people buy, the more rewards the hostess earns. Then the hostess puts in their order last, and usually you get some "free money" to spend, and half-price items and stuff. Being the hostess is a way better deal than being a consultant or regular customer, tbh, because you get a bunch of discounts, but you only buy whatever you actually want to buy.

I was a consultant for Epicure about 10 years ago. The parties were very popular within my family/friends, and pretty fun! We would taste a lot of the dips and just hang out and drink wine. Wasnt so much a cooking class, which is what they are apparently calling it now. There would be the odd demo of something. Looking back i never thought of it as an MLM. I just really loved their products even though i knew it was a bit over-priced. But they get you with the no sodium, better ingredients etc. And I really thought selling it would be a no brainer since i knew so many people that liked it. Yah, lasted maybe 3 years. It went well the first year, but after everyone has all the cookware etc. You make next to nothing and you have to continuously push products or get people to host parties and stay on top of purchasing and testing new products. I had loads of extra product and i still own most of the cookware. The silicone stuff is pretty good but their other stuff is not great. Ive donated or sold most of it. Save your money and look up copycat recipes for the spices.

I'm interested in MLMs from the "are they a cult?" perspective because of a lot of the language they use (they always have a specific argot and grandiose titles - everyone's at least an ambassador) and the unrealistic rewards that they promise. I have found your posts on them a model of even-handedness that still reveals the cynicism and manipulation just beneath the surface. Are you aware that Alan Sugar is involved in one too? It's called Tropic Skincare although they say they are not an MLM but a "direct selling company" - the use of a nuanced phrase like that being a red flag in itself.

I live near where this product was made originally… it’s a great delicious product everyone who’s ever tried it has loved it. The reason they chose direct sales is because you really do have to try it to know, word of mouth works best for this product rather than sitting on a grocery store shelf.

I know this video is old but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. MLM aside, prices aside, the seasonings taste really good. I have a well stocked seasonings cupboard and am fully capable of making my own mixes, but there are still a few seasonings that I continue to purchase from Epicure because they do taste so good. Epicure is really popular in Canada.

Omg! My mom always bought from her friend that hosted these and was convinced to do her own cooking class. Is SO AWKWARD!! She did not like it and maybe did one more before saying now and just stuck with buying the mixes and herbs. Its really a horrible deal and so strange and just not worth it. The mixes and seasonings are not even all that good anyway

Does no-one at this MLM know there are cooking shows on KZbin? I can find tons of shows and recipes to learn how to cook better, playable whenever I want, and all it costs me is "like, comment, subscribe, and check out my patron" Imagine how much better the world would be if we took all the computers from pyramid scheme businesses and used them to outfit schools.

This is the first video I've seen on Epicure, and I'm nervous because I actually love Epicure spices, but I know it's an mlm and I know I'm about to hear how terrible it is lol... but I did want to comment on the comparison to Pampered Chef... I don't know if Epicure has changed (it's probably been close to a decade since I went to an Epicure party tbh), but the focus is on the spices. The cookware feels like an afterthought. The way they do the parties is the consultant makes a bunch of the dips and then you just eat while she does the presentation, and generally people buy a lot of stuff because it's delicious and you can justifying the insane prices in the moment. I know it's common for them to cook at Pampered Chef parties too, but Epicure is way more focused on you buying all the ingredients to make whatever dip you just had.

@@suzannahdarcy6903 yeah I feel like Epicure is the only MLM I have purchased from and not actually regretted it, because their stuff is actually delicious... it's also the only one that I think is true to the claim that "it sells itself", because literally every party I've been to has just been a table of food to taste, and each thing has a card with what spices were used, and people always buy a ton of stuff. Like, I wish they weren't an MLM because they actually have a good product, but a terrible business model. but they could totally sell that in stores

Been in sales a few years. Always got free samples of the product we sold, or at least got to demo it on location. A company that doesn’t do that doesn’t really care how you represent the product. I’ve also worked jobs I’d consider mlm. I thought I just couldn’t sell. It was weird too.. everyone I started with that leveled up seemed very financially privileged to me. They indeed did it by buying the product to meet numbers. I could not afford it.

oh an MLM i'm familiar with, my wife's aunt is the one in the family who "sells" epicure. she really likes some of the spices but knows they are pretty over priced, so she only buys once a year to keep her discount (you need to sell X number of items a year to keep the discount). Through family pot lucks she would come with different recipies using the epicure products, and anyone who was interested in making the dish she told about epicure. since she personally knows everyone she sells to and she gets the discount, we just tell her what we want when she orders and then just e-transfer her how much it cost. from the experience i've had they aren't too bad, can't wait to edit this comment after i'm done watching... Edit: I'd like to say I'm surprised by the way the warehouse and production staff are treated, but it seems like the norm right now. Still appalling but just not a surprise anymore. While we have bought a few of the kitchen items like the silicon cooking utensils, and one of the woks, it is mostly the spice mixtures we get. Seems like my wife's aunt approaches this mlm the right way, shame that after theyvmaje so much easy money they treat the people making it like garbage.

I buy Epicure spices when I come across someone who sells them. I don't host parties. They have some unique products and they don't fill them up with salt like a lot of grocery store items that might seem similar. They are probably overpriced if budget is a concern.

Hey Emma, I can’t changed your mind on this I’m sure and wouldn’t try to, though just as an fyi, I love working for Epicure for many reasons and one very huge mistake you made in your video is about the cooking classes. Nothing is needed by a host, we bring everything they need, most my hosts spend less than $20 on a few proteins & ingredients to host a class, and after 8 years of hosting I can tell you that most of my hosts earn at least $120+, many times over $300 worth of products free after their class. They are actually a ton of fun for everyone who comes though there are many of us who do not go about it the right way (me not included), and that IS the sad part about mlm style companies, my goal is to change that daily!! With my business I have personally been able to donate over 19k, yes 19,000 complete meals to local organizations like the childrens aid and food banks for those in need & I will defend that and how I do it through the help of my customers till the death, I could never have this platform without epicure and the give back program they offer alongside my sales. I can also add that I have never spent a dime on Epicure since joining, I host my own fun classes and earn all my spices free and use them daily to feed my family & then donate half back to the free food pantry in my home town, many don’t, but I do, so it’s worth sharing. It also is a fulltime income for me, earning me more than I ever did in 23yrs of a healthcare/sports therapy career with much less and more fun work, so it’s also worth sharing. And to be clear, for me, friends or family as customers, the ones that I do sell to use Epicure and love it so would buy whether I sold or not, just as I did before starting, I never cold message or ask people to buy or host, I simply share what we eat on social and in my mailing newsletter that people sign up for freely, I share our healthy lifestyle & our products and people come to me because they love it. There is so much good in direct selling, I literally wouldn’t have a life without it, and I give everything I can to my team to ensure they create the same success, it’s just the bad companies & shitty reps that give us all a bad name. Anyway again we can agree to disagree on certain things but if you go to all this work to make this info video I would assume you would want to make sure the info was correct, and there are many inaccuracies, so hopefully this helps!

One thing that doesn't come up on these MLMs is that they are VERY RARELY making their own product. they are paying for marketing and packaging. The companies that sell a pan sourced from the same factory outright on Amazon has a lot less overhead and lot less corporate bloat to cover.
