Ep. 366
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and Dr. Steve Templeton discuss his recent publication, “Fear of a Microbial Planet: How a Germophobic Safety Culture Makes Us Less Safe.” They break down the “discussed response” of the behavioral immune system, the pathogenic treatment of people during the COVID pandemic, the shift toward perceptual safety over common good, the programmatically induced fear that censors open discussion around these topics even now, and the impenetrability of those afraid, even when met with fundamental truths.
Dr. Steve Templeton is the Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Indiana University School of Medicine Terre Haute, formerly CDC/NIOSH. Dr. Templeton is the author of the new publication, “Fear of a Microbial Planet: How a Germophobic Safety Culture Makes Us Less Safe.” The book examines pandemic responses, cultural and administrative, weighing historic examples against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: bit.ly/3KrWbS8

When my son was in middle school, about 13. He skinned his knees, while riding his bike. I bandaged him up. The next day I got call from the principal. She asked if I was aware of his injury and in the conversation implied abuse or neglect on my part for allowing this to happen. I asked her one question. when you were a child had you ever skinned your knees? After that it’s like something snapped and she apologized and ended the call. This is only one of many instances like this. Where safeguarding goes overboard.

One of the unintended consequences of lockdowns was parents looking over the shoulder of their children and seeing the level of indoctrination present in the curriculum. The result being that parents are getting involved in the school systems to a greater degree, much to the dismay of educators

One thing parents have noticed is the educational industrial complex is NOT redeemable. The only acceptable role for Government in Education is to provide resources to students in the form of TAX free accounts, spendable on education at ANY level. If the level of savings is sufficiently large, just keep it invested for retirement. No need to purchase education for yourself if you essentially end up with a giant pile of money for the rest of your life.

I was amazed how this has clarified that many people are ignorant totalitarian tyrants. I worked a restaurant and stayed open because we had a pickup window. We got slammed with business, day after day after day, as you might imagine, but we slogged on. We were reported 6 times to health services because someone picking up food saw that an employee's mask had slipped below their nose. So here we are working or asses off to feed these people and didn't know if WE were putting ourselves in danger just staying open and being in contact with so many people. Some assholes reported us!

Trust what science? I argue that much of so called modern science (todays science) is nothing more than pseudoscience / religion or observational philosophy at best. Here’s why: - Ask 100 science teachers…What they teach if anything on the first 3 basic steps to the SCIENTIFIC METHOD? Maybe one or two teachers will answer correctly. So it begs the ?, how will their students learn the method? They wont! So listen carefully…Science is empirical…that means verifiable / provable through observation AND testing / experimentation. The method was created to rid the landscape of the loudest voices, bias, $, donors, peer review (😂lmao) politics, etc. If something is claimed to be scientific then that means its been validated through this method. Once validated that hypothesis can become a “scientific theory” which is another way of saying its a proven fact!

Many perform in plays they are not even aware they are participating in. They are so proud of themselves for being so caring, soft, good, loving and kind that people could literally die beside them while they pay their back for being so good. “Kindness” for these people means “do whatever it takes, no matter how monstrous or amoral, but do it with a soft voice and nice words so people could remember your good intentions regardless of the outcome.

Years ago Americans lived on farms. Kids as young as five were responsible for chores that were necessary for family survival. Parents were very engaged with their kids, teaching them, working along side them. For many generations those kids were the ones who grew up to be productive and hard working and without most of the psychological pathologies that seem to plague modern society. It's not healthy or good to isolate children, but our electronic technology is already doing that. What happened during covid was parents put their kids in front of computers to learn. What is the motivation behind public institutions that they want to get children addicted to screens instead of getting them involved with learning interpersonal skills face to face?
@ginamisramusic
@ginamisramusic 10 ай бұрын
The motivation is that children who are used to learning that way will be much easier to control later in life with standardized, government approved knowledge. This is coming from someone who got all the COVID vaccines and is/was a scientist (I quit, but not because I was bad at science or because of politics - long story). I don't think the pandemic was a planned effort to get kids in front of screens, but I do think it was a super convenient circumstance for people who wanted to get kids in front of screens. Big Tech Socialism is terrifying.

In my opinion, your comment is the absolute number one most important thing that adult Americans need to be discussing. I see no lifestyle that makes any sense whatsoever Besides, a family living on a piece of land, growing their own food, learning what it means to be responsible for yourself, and teaching your children the same. I married someone who grew up on a farm and your description of how they grow up to be responsible capable and mentally stable much else is absolutely 100% correct. I would forgo all the luxuries of the modern world to live on a small farm and be able to teach my child this. I don’t value much else.

We lost control at the start because we were offered an extra two week paid vacation. Everyone went along with that. I'm a retired OR nurse and I'm going to toot my own horn here. I told my family that masks would only make things worse but people wouldn't care because there's such a huge hunger for drama. Our lives have become so safe so instead of being grateful we seem to yearn for another world war, another true pandemic where we see our neighbors bodies being hauled away. In these fantasies, it's never us that suffers, we are only witness to tragedy, the hero in the tale. I really started to despise the weakness in people who either drummed up or followed along because "in these trials we all have to do our part." Why aren't people satisfied in their wonderfully boring life? Why do they need to be part of others tragedy?

I recall children becoming possessions about 30 or 40 years ago. The safety clown show started then, and it never had a thing to do with the kids. It was about parents trying to be seen as diligent, morally superior pillars of their communities - communities in which they actually took almost no part for the first time in U.S. history. The safety routine was about transferring isolation and self-involvement to vulnerable children so that those undesirable lifestyles could be justified as common-senses defenses against physical death. At least that's how I recall it. Now those kids have grown up and, unsurprisingly, view everything as a threat to their safety, starting with anyone who disagrees with them even slightly, i.e., who represents the larger community their parents taught them to hide from.

Jhey, if she can do that without drugs she can do anything. Nah, they don't want women to experience power and control over themselves. Instead they praise the man who runs the marathon or is a footy star. Etc.

The studies about malignant narcissism are fascinating. For quite a few years now, even before the pandemic, I've had many online discussions with people who have noticed the Cluster B personality disorder style tactics of the far left. We all likened it to Borderline behavior, probably because many of us were raised by moms (usually) with BPD. Being raised by people like this, once you've realized the common features, what they do, who they are, how they manipulate, you can spot these tactics fairly quickly as an adult.

Jordan Peterson, who is a well-renowned doctor, stands out as a beacon of *bravery* and boldness in our ever-changing world. He fearlessly defends conservative values, even as radical and extreme ideas seem to be gaining traction-In particular, the radical ideas of the radical left. In an era where cancel culture runs rampant, with lives being torn apart over perceived offenses, Dr. Peterson fearlessly speaks his mind, challenging the prevailing narratives and encouraging critical thinking. His unwavering commitment to free speech and intellectual honesty is remarkable. Despite facing backlash and vehement opposition, Dr. Peterson perseveres, shining a light on the importance of open dialogue and the dangers of stifling differing viewpoints. He fearlessly confronts sensitive issues and sparks conversations that are necessary for societal progress. In a time when uninformed opinions dominate public discourse, Dr. Peterson stands tall as a well-informed and articulate voice. His thoughtful insights and extensive knowledge have helped countless individuals gain a deeper understanding of complex issues. His dedication to education and the pursuit of truth is truly commendable. Dr. Peterson’s courage to challenge prevailing norms and defend conservative values serves as an inspiration to many. His intellectual fearlessness reminds us to question, to think critically, and to engage in respectful dialogue. In a world that sometimes feels divided and polarized, his unwavering stance is a reminder of the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs, regardless of the consequences. Dr. Jordan Peterson’s contributions, particularly in defending conservative values, promoting intellectual diversity, and advocating for free speech, have left an indelible mark on our society. His unwavering bravery in the face of radical ideas and cancel culture is a testament to his character and the impact he has made on those who seek truth and understanding. They colluded with big pharma, drs put so many people on ventilators and that was almost sure death. Why? And why tell us the kids aren’t high risk, then mask them up and shut down schools? It was insane and against common sense. My 80 year old father with dimmentia was put in a covid home for a month because he tested positive for covid. As a school principal, I marveled at parents who demanded their child should never fall or be pushed in the playground. They first padded the ground where kindergarten students played, creating a false idea of what falling down looks like and feels like. Then they changed back to wood chips etc...realizing the children were taking too many risks believing nothing would happen to them. Then they created 'narural playgrounds' whe a walk in the woods would be a better idea than creating one surrounded by fencing. My own children and grandchildren play in the real world with appropriate adult supervision and definitely know what a bandaid is. The same thing happened on staff. Make the school safer and safer and safer and no one can lift anything ir clean anything without a union representative. Give me freedom over this nonsense any day!

Goodness when I was a child in Australia in the 70s, at kindergarten one of the boys put on a Superman cape and jumped out of the treehouse and broke his arm. The kindergartens safety response was to ban superhero capes. Even today my grandkids are often skinning their knees at school. Parents expect it. Occasionally boys punch each other, which does upset parents if it was unwarranted.

Took one look at people wearing those gappy masks , “ sanitising” their shopping and and wearing gloves when out and about and gave up hope in humanity tbh . My simple point on masks was , if builders working with asbestos could wear a rubbish surgical style face cloth for £2 and be protected from all sizes of spores /molecules then why would they wear face fitted graded £400+ masks ? Because anyone who knows anything about cross contamination, PPE and sterilisation knows there are various grades of defence and sterilisation. The general public are so ill informed and pig headed they probably think dettol spray would prevent Hep C transmission in a tattoo 🫠 When this sorry excuse for advise came from the government though … people who were suppose to know more than me , a merger former tattoo artist , that’s when I smelt malicious intent .

The lockdowns were one of the worst things to happen to me, and I didn't really have it that bad. A couple months before they started, I had to break off a long-term relationship, then they hit and disrupted my graduate work. I was on my way to getting on with my life, when the lockdowns weren't just going to be 2 weeks, as promised, but lasted over 13 weeks. Then, when allowed to return to work, we had to be on 50% occupancy, and it completely screwed up my work pattern. That went on for months, with whole days going in the bin due to not having enough hours to complete work, and having to wait for the next day or week to do that work (some work I do requires 12+ hours to complete). During that period, I gained over 80 lbs, started having debilitating health problems and my supervisor went AWOL (also probably cripplingly depressed). That led to a depression, that was hard to climb out of. I was having financial difficulties due to inflation, and the last 3 years have basically been nothing but an end-to-end nightmare. Finally, I'm now finishing my graduate program, and working like I used to (typical graduate student schedule of 16-24 hour days in the lab, and the joys it comes with). It may have ruined my long term career, as I'll not have a first author paper from my PhD, which not even having one is basically a failure. If lockdowns ever return, I'm simply going to ignore them. I'd rather be in the lab working, and get arrested than be kept from my work.

As for the ABC, at one stage it reported that any unvaxed person attempting to cross the Tasmanian border would be indefinitely incarcerated* in a Centre of National Resilience. * Until they had received all jabs and boosters.

Happy to hear from Dr. Steve Templeton. So much common sense and of course expertise in Microbiology and immunology. Wish there were more like him. I'm just so depressed by the last three years, and I'm worried that they will impose lockdowns again. And i feel so sad for the kids and what they've gone through.😢 Used to see local high school kids running in the streets, during PE, wearing masks. I've never been a germaphobe. Although i do believe in good handwashing with soap and water. As a retired RN, I worked in hospitals for many years, including a few years on a BMT (bone marrow transplant) unit. My elderly Aunt ends her emails to me now with "Stay virus free", and it drives me mad, because I dont want to be virus free. I want my immune system challenged on a regular basis, so that when i get sick with a bad flu, I'll be able to fight it. Thank you JP.

The more I learn about reality is that the Shadow is necessary for Good to exist and isn't that the question - how to deal with "Evil?" When we fight it, it gets bigger and longtime activists have figured that out. Truth without the big fight keeps us stay sane too. I think everyone "should" listen to music everyday as a great start to finding our rhythm in life, dancing and singing doesn't hurt either. We would be smarter and like Einstein said - We can't solve a problem at the same level it was created - and music changes our mood to see differently. Thanks for your help with this guys, you are music to my ears!

Great conversation - thank you! I worked at Elsevier during pandemic - thus had free access to Lancet and medical journals. So I took time each day to stay updated on the data coming in. It was quickly apparent to me that this was a campaign of fear and profit rather than a healthcare emergency. I went into a dark space for that period of time - was alone in my thoughts and perspectives, and ostracized by co-workers/friends. Despite all of the pain, suffering, and lost loved ones - today I feel this experience was necessary for the western world overall… in so that it may shed old perspectives of the healthcare industry and its hegemony over “health & medicine”.

I told my grandmother back in 2015 that something big was coming in 2021, probably a pandemic or at worst case scenario the next war and her behavioral response when Covid hit in 2019 was so insane despite me giving her a heads up based on what little information I had at the time?!? I can only imagine how bad others response to the pandemic hitting especially for people who had never had anything bad happen in their life!? And my comment is not to put people who’s had a relatively good life down, but there is a difference in how people who have had better lives reacted to something like Covid, as opposed to somebody who’s been through the ringer their whole life-

I remember a newspaper article about a man who had all four limbs cut off because he caught some kind of disease apparently from having his dog lick him. Towards the end of the article his wife mentioned how her husband was always so clean using cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer. You probably killed off all of his good bacteria that would fight the bad.

These videos are possibly the most valuable and high level content popularized and distributed to the masses that exists today. Talking about such meaningful issues, doing it incredibly accurately and rationally, and in ways a good portion of people can consume and understand. The eternal question I ask myself every day; how can those in chaos be consistently convinced of the order you reveal to them?

I sure hope we don't have a repeat performance in near future now that those that benefitted have seen how relatively easily millions of people were swayed....

That’s the point, they have seen how easy it is to manipulate the public. The masses have unfortunately given the globalists the ‘in’ they wanted, and sold themselves, their families and humanity down the river

I really appreciate all of this being articulated and explained. I felt the abuse of power by the government early on in Covid where common sense wasn't even being used anymore, but I didn't know how to explain it or talk about what felt off. This was to the point where an ordinary person like me could feel something wasn't right, especially when my little sister was forced to be on zoom for school for a long time. Even when she got back to school it was all masks and hand sanitizer. I was angered by this because she was/is in her important developmental years which form how she understands the world, and the wearing of masks and all the precautions affected that greatly in a negative way. She was not allowed to be a child. There was one day where my mom told her she didn't need a mask anymore, but she said she was uncomfortable to take it off. At that point I knew something was very very wrong and that the people creating the mandates were not thinking about the health and wellbeing of children, short or longterm. I really resonated with that part of the podcast.

To further answer your question towards the end, Jordan, along with the fact that so many people had caught some version of the virus, there was also the glaring timeline of the massive attention and support of the trucker convoy (obscenely misrepresented and maligned by Castreau's state media), the violent and 1000% unwarranted crackdown, then the entire world's attention suddenly and magically diverted to the Ukraine situation - the timing was truly astonishing. Saw so many comments at the time joking that Putin deserved the Nobel for single-handedly ending covid. It practically evaporated from our screens in the space of days.

Dr. Templeton, many thanks! I still recall an incident 15 years ago when teachers were being trained about active shooter situations. A teacher became so upset she said that if her safety wasn't "absolutely guaranteed" she shouldn't have to come to work. The trainer had to explain that he had no control over natural disasters, car crashes, and many things that could injure her at work. I could hardly believe someone had to explain to an adult that there is no such thing in the world as "absolute guaranteed safety."

really enjoyed this chat thankyou. I would like to make my own observation here around many interviews its become very very clear that we seem to completely over use "Labels" at all levels including Jp's summaries. This is where the problem lies for manipulation of context across to board. So if you take the perspective of the immune system this imo is a natural good example of how to communicate and thrash out a solution. So maybe the use of less evocative language and labelling could help open up more contextual language. We are all very very complex and if we over simplify then a virus can slip in without being noticed hehe
