EPIK Voice Acting: Echoes of Eternity - Speech of Sanguinius

Hail, Epikus Warriors! Here is another voice acting demo once again of the voice of Sanguinius, Primarch of the Blood Angels Chapter of the Space Marines/Adeptus Astartes in the Warhammer 40,000 universe! This is text from the book "Echoes of Eternity," the latest of the Siege of Terra saga!
In this scene, Sanguinius is giving a rousing speech before the final battle of the Eternity Gate on Holy Terra, at the Imperial Palace! It's quite dire, and he tells he truth...hard, grim truth, but also the truth of not lying to his men to make them feel comfortable! No, he promises them that while his instinct is to run and never look back, that he stays and fights because it is RIGHT to oppose evil!

Despite being born of the same uncaring and cruel genes as his father and some of his other brothers as well as his natural inclination for blood-need and violence… he rose above them all. His heart burned the brightest and because of it, his blade also burned brighter then any other. Bright enough to become an eternal light for the defenders of the throne world and bright enough to become the white hot doom to all the traitors that saw him.

He knows the warriors under his command have given more then he could possibly ask of them and they earned that final respite. He however believes he hasn't. He has failed the Imperium and it is his time to repent and repay.

There’s also I have to guess rather cynically an element of reverse psychology to this speech. By now you’re probably tired of fighting. I get it so am I, and I’m a Primarch. I can’t even imagine how much harder this is on you mere humans. Horus promised to let you live if you surrender. Hopefully you all realize he has no intention of honoring that promise. Maybe you could run through the wastes. If you’re really lucky you might avoid being killed by Horus’s minions just to die of thirst and exhaustion. Maybe you’d like to fall back into the sanctum. Some of you have family in there. You can tell them “Well we tried our best, but there’s just too many and we’re all about to die.” Or you can do what I’m going to do which is keep fighting to the last. This is basically humanity’s last stand. What else can we do?

The warhammer 40k lore is one one level with all of humanitys myths and religions. It made me believe in God as I picture the God emperor as how God should be explained. The Bible is not doing it for me but 40k lore can explain it all. The emperor as manifestation of all human potential and his aspects manifested in his sons. It's great. The mythical stories about honor loyalty and betrayal. It ha it all. Again and again it shows what's important to not transcend humanity but to embrace it. Humans are not the problem they are the solution. As greedy and selfish as they are they can be loving and selfless. True heros. The imperium was never built for the Trans humans.

My guy, this was brilliant all around. I think people underestimate how difficult it is to catch Sanguinius’s essence from an actor’s perspective. Some 40K speeches run into this trope of “shouting = inspirational”, but at least in this instance, I feel the Angel understood that his audience didn’t need a chest-pounding monologue given at the top of his lungs. Courage can be loud, yes, but it can also be measured and reassuring without needing to be over the top. I REALLY like how you would build up at particular points, and then rein it back in; it really reaffirms that Sanguinius is still a Primarch, one that the Blood Angels can look up to and aspire to be like, but one who remembers he is still (half) human, which is what the average Guard needed to see and hear (considering what they were going up against). Definitely have my like and my sub, and I’m looking forward to hearing more!

Yeah, I was really going for "humanizing" Sanguinius, but as well: he WAS the face of the Imperium! Had to retain some of that "elegance," even if he may have felt otherwise. I read a novelization about him, not long ago...the overall sort of depiction the Blood Angels were given were as "darkness veiled in epic, elegant glory." Sanguinius himself, in that story, expressed this sentiment generally, in so many words in a few occasions throughout. I forget the name of the book...but some guy was on a mission of sorts to gather info about the Blood Angels, and in the end, some scheming lady who wanted to be aggrandized in her position, made it so that even though this fellow knew and recorded the truth about the Angels, she burned his records after his passing, and maintained the imagery on the world she was on that Sanguinius was this saintly paragon of righteousness - the face of the Imperium, even after he passed - which imagery obviously prevailed throughout the Imperium after the Horus Heresy. It was nifty, and in the audio book version the narrator voice acted Sanguinius a bit, and the overall tone in that actor's voice was a similar place where I leaned, sound-wise, for this depiction. 😁

Sanguinius went to his death knowing his efforts would give the Emperor the chance he needed to survive his coming battle with Horus. Not a certain victory, but a slim chance. He gave his life for a roll of the dice knowing if he did not his father would fall and his empire would fall with him. It is easy to sacrifice for an ideal or for a certainty but to give it willingly for scant hope was courage beyond measure

I know of all the brothers Guilliman misses in the 41st milennium, it is the great angel he misses most of all. his brother, his friend, his chosen emperor. I always imagined Sanguinius sounding like how I portrayed, a bit higher-pitched baritone, and a narrower and perhaps somewhat more nasal tone.

Honestly this book made it clear that one if the biggest tragedies of the heresy was the loss of Sanguinius, and between echoe of eternity and the first part of the end and the death ive just been dreading the loss of that light. The whole of echos of eternity did so much to show who Sanguinius was and how he was the best of humanity, from this speech and this vattle down to the moment where he recognized a child in his legion, gave honor to the boy's mortal parents as if they were lords and allowed for that child to touch his wings.

Its covered in other materials but the Primarchs do have a strong self-preservation instinct built into them. It's why most survived even as infants in hostile environments like with Angron and the Lion. Even when they get corrupted into Daemon Primarchs it still exists. During the invasion of Fenris, Magnus as actually dying of his wounds, he'd just return to the Warp after the Wolf Lord he was fighting finished him off but that instinct kicks in and forces Magnus to get up off the snow and stop letting the Wolf Lord wail on him. XD (He kills the Wolf Lord who dies laughing because he made Magnus cry like a little bitch :P)

I'm guessing there will be another series following that one relating to the loyalists chasing the traitors away from Terra. Corporal Mashrajeir of the 91st Industani Drop Troops didn’t know what to say. Reason and duty warred within him, in a way known to any soldier facing the grimmest odds. He could live. He could leave, and live. His regiment wasn’t made for this kind of fighting anyway. They were guerrillas, drop troops, trained for point insertion. He’d been on the ground for this whole damn war. What use was a grav-trooper on a rampart? What use was high-atmosphere jump training when all he had now was a lasrifle and a bayonet?But he was making excuses, justifying, and he knew it. Mash had the training and the experience to overcome these doubts, to push them back and summon focus in their stead. Besides, there was nowhere to run. Not really. Tactically, it made sense to hold here. If he was going to die, best he sell his life where it would matter most. No, he called to the primarch. And he wasn’t the first, but he was one of them. His voice cut out from the silence in the very first wave of denials. He wouldn’t leave the wall. He wouldn’t run. No!... (cutting out some story)... No! cried the defenders of the wall. They rejected the primarch’s offer with a gestalt sound of vocal thunder. No! No! No! By the Emperor's Grace We Fight!

When i heard Sanguinius died, i cried for a whole week. I remember it like it was Yesterday. The Primarch of my favorite Legion: The Blood Angels. The one who was an icon to Roboute Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson... such was his legacy. In his absence, one champion rose to the occasion: Commander Dante. After the Blood Angel's homeworld was besieged by hordes of Tyrannids, Commander Dante bowed before Roboute Guilliman, but the latter would not have it. He elevated our commander and give him a high rank. And thus, the Blood Angels were given the glory they deserve from the olden days. In the absence of our primarch, we didn't loose ourselves. We found new purpose!
