I have absence seizures too. I never hear people talk about these, I wish they were discussed more because people have such a hard time understanding that not all seizures are like the grand mals they are on TV. So I just really really appreciate you making this video!! It’s nice to know I’m not alone in what I’m going through.

I absolutely love the fact that you have created this channel as i have had epilepsy from the age of 2-6 and then I grew out of it and then I was diagnosed again at 11 and I have blank abscesses as well as seizures. I would just like to say thanks for making people aware.

Thank you for sharing your story. My 6yr old daughter is currently having a 24hr EEG done to see if she's having more absence seizures. The video you posted while having absence seizures made me start to cry because it was exactly how my daughter is :/ I feel guilty for all the times I've felt frustrated with her when she's tried to tell me a story or answer a question I've asked and it seemed like she just wasn't focused and taking forever to get it out :(

Hi, love the video! :) I was just diagnosed with epilepsy 2 weeks ago after suffering 4 or 5 tonic seizures and two tonic-clonic seizures in the span of 2 days. Needless to say I'm pretty confused at the moment but I have found there is a lot of information out there about epilepsy and I am am grateful for videos such as this one as they help me realise that I'm not alone in this struggle.

Love your videos. I started having absence seizures a couple years ago, either shortly before or shortly after my 31st birthday. Finally figured out I was having them when I had one and fell in the kitchen and was brought to hospital, before that friends, family and my bosses thought I was day dreaming or spacing out all the time.

:O Mindblown! I just found your videos and I relate so much! I've had these short episodes of "not thinking", as I call it, for as long as I can remember (I am 21 now). I would just suddenly stop whatever I was doing, and simply don't think for up to a minute. It never really bothered me, a little annoying sometimes, but also kind of funny. It has become less as well. Is it possible that I am having abscense seizures? Crazy.

As usual Brogan you summed up the effects of partial seizures perfectly. I have always had difficulty trying to explain those around me what the effects of epilepsy has on especially after an partial seizure episode. Some times it may take me 30 minutes to recover other times it may take be considerably longer. Thank you for explaining the effects of epilepsy. Importantly, it really doesn't prevent you doing most normal activities, some people though, through miss understanding want to wrap you up in a cotton ball.

I'm so grateful for your first and second video. Had it not been for your first video I would have written off my daughter having them bc hers are not anything like other videos i've researched. She only has hers when she talks and conversations are difficult for her. Looses train of thought it is so hard for her to recall words. It is because of your video that we are going to have our daughter tested tomorrow for her EEG. She is 12 yrs old. Can you describe what school was like for you? My daughter is also Dyslexic that is why I ask. Her neuro psychologist said that she scored off the charts HIGH (genius) during a portion of her IQ testing but then dropped 70 points all of sudden suggested we have her tested for seizures. I was shocked thought no way I've never seen her have one. Then I came across your video and thought that is her that is what she does! Again thank you so much!

My first one happened in 8th grade and I had a horrible headache and put my head down but I don’t remember falling asleep.my principle came in and thought I was being defiance and yelled at me to get up .they told me they shook my body and yelled at me to get up and when 10 mins passed they still didn’t call 911 .around 20 mins later I woke up white as paper and was very confused but overwhelmed bc everyone was telling me I was in trouble for ‘ignoring ‘ her .i called my mom and I ended up having a panic attack then went to the hospital and a neurologist.it happened again while I was talking to my mom and my doctor told me it was absentee seizure and lately it’s been happing more and more .my sister asked me where somthing was and I knew the answer and tried to tell her but I felt like I was blocked and didn’t know how to get the words out my mouth .nobody knows it is happening a lot and even if they do they just tell me I’m forgetful but it’s hard because I know the answer but when I want to get the words out my mouth my mind goes black and I start to studder it and is scary.im now 16 and this has been happening for around 4ish years

Can you explain what an absence seizure feels like? I get something that makes me go into a blank stare and my head is up on the air but my brain feels like blood is going slowly through my brain and a twitchy feeling... I have yet to find answers.. please let me know. I also get eye twitches and feel like I can’t look away from what I’m staring at and get confused and my words get jumbled..

For those who are still confused about the difference in the seizure and day dreaming. During a day dream, for me at least, you are aware of what you’re thinking and your imagination, while in a seizure isn’t something you can tell happened; you don’t even know you’ve had one yourself. I can only explain this by saying imagine you’re a tv. The tv pauses, but everything on the screen is still on. When you unpause the screen, though, everything continues like nothing ever happened.

My sister gets them unfortunatly. They are usually triggered by sudden loud noises, beeps, flashing lights and mostly sirens (like ambulance). If she's sitting down, she will just zone out and not move a muscle, her eyes don't even move she will just stare their aimlessly until her service dog comes up to her and "snaps her out of it" as we call it. If she's standing up and she hears or sees the triggers, she will fall DEAD WEIGHT onto the ground until her service dog comes. It's been going on for a few years now and the doctors still don't know exactly what it is or how it works. It seems like an absence but is a lot more robotic and cryptic being as she looks like her brain just shut down completely. Anyone else have the same or know of something similar?

I think I've been having absence seizures recently. I was epileptic as a kid, but I was too young to remember the experience. To describe my feelings of what's been happening recently: I sort of freeze, I'm still "conscious", but not aware... if that makes sense? Like I can still see and hear everything, but I can't think, and I'm just frozen. Everything also feels sort of slowed down and dim. I feel completely drained and weak before and after this happens as well.

I've definitely seen people have petit mal. One guy I used to go to the pub with would occasionally blank out and stare into space for ten seconds or so. I've never had grand mal, but I do wonder if I have had petit mal in the past. I used to get called space cadet myself when I started out at secondary school. I did daydream sometimes, but I wonder if I had this as well. My teachers would complain I wasn't paying attention to my mum, but I got fairly good marks (most of the time). I was interested to read it's quite common amongst childrem and adolescents. I reckon absence seizures are probably more common than realised.

Absence seizures would be missed because they do look like forgetfulness and willfulness when they aren't under the person's control.

@@GandharaBlogspotCa i don’t think they look like that, people are just quick to blame you for your experiences and label anything odd or inconvenient to them as intentional behavior & character flaws (laziness, not caring about school, rudeness, etc).

This gonna be a long comment so just don't read mine, I've had seizures since I was 8 or 9 I've had the full spectrum of epilepsy I now have grand mal seizures I can tell you all I lose my memory when an episode is happing I flail my arms everything locks up I choked on my tough every time, when it's done I get into an extreme vomiting session, I puked blood once. I can feel them coming it's a sense of panic or rethinking the same thing over and over again, you can dream and see it happing, well in my case the thing that sets me off is pure lights not sleeping more specially the part of sleep where you're going to sleep and awake and waking up but still asleep I tried many pills and bearly getting on to a medication that works for me. What I'm trying to say is if you ever see someone having one of these seziers hold them but have them on there side I freak out less when some dose this for me if you tell the person everything is going to be ok or is ok they will come down faster and if you can't, put something under there head so they don't get hurt anymore but always have them on their side. It's goddam important to put them on their side, I'll let you know some people treat us differently don't do that we just do this at times. I want to also address this a lot of people say in my case or this what happens for me example one person can have 200 seizes a day and be on the same medication as a person with grand mal what's important here is there's the right amount of the medication for each person that's all I have to say so far if anyone has any questions feel free

I was 10 when I first had a seizure. It’s the same type of seizures that you have. I got mine from when I went to the dentist and they gave me too much gas. I found out because I had one in school I was completely out of it and I had written on my paper that my name was issabela (my name is Emily) and I got all the questions wrong... the teacher quickly noticed something was wrong and sent me to the nurse. The nurse called home and I went home. The rest is a blur but I was told when I got home I undressed and walked around the house... my dad took me to the hospital where I stayed for 3 days but it felt like forever. I can’t remember any of it but I was told I was violent.
