See I'm epileptic, but I have the OTHER kind of seizure. You know, the one that's REALLY obviously a seizure. Had one in maths once and freaked the fuck out of the entire class. The upside is that everyone believes me, because I can't really fake my seizures. I can imagine a lot of people who have focal seizures like this must go completely undiagnosed by professionals, because it doesn't look like what people expect a seizure to be and thus isn't taken as seriously. Thank you so much for educating everyone on this. Seizures come in many different forms and ALL of them deserve recognition and care.

I had a few tonic-clonic(grand mal) seizures at school and no one really noticed that they were seizures until I had one in front of my math teacher who was in the national guard and he had to take some basic medical training to he knew that it was mostly likely a seizure

I don't think I realized I had a seizure until after my blackouts the first two times. I bit my tongue so hard, it looked like hamburger meat. I've hit my head on so many things since my diagnosis.

I have both grandmal and focal seizures, and the focal ones are a lot harder to prepare for because its almost like going completely blank. I can feel the grandmal seizures coming, it's like a strong overwhelming sensation that overtakes my whole body before it starts. The focal seizures I have often turn into grandmal seizures as well, and having them in public is honestly soooo embarrassing.

It's very strange when I have seizures like this without even knowing but still my parents look after me most people thought I was faking to get attention and lots of friends coming caring for me. About a year later people started believing it once when I got called in class I just had it it wasn't until I got into the nurse's office it had stop. Keep Safe Kids.

Same thing for me, I have had many different kinds of seizures but I had many focal seizures during JH and early highschool and I had no idea at all, and I even had a few tonic-clonic seizures at school and no one really thought twice about it, it was a very small school, but there were people around who had medical training and some adults there even had epilepsy but I just happen to not have them around those people until the last one I had at school then I actually was able to go to see a doctor then they ran and EEG said it was normal then gave up. But I'm not triggered by flashing lights. I'm not exactly sure what causes them

I've been having this kind of seizure constantly. I'll lose my strength, my vision will get really blurry or I'll black out. I can hear everything that's going on but I can't move or talk and I stare off, its like I'm stuck in my body and I cant do anything about it. I had a panic attack after some of them because I get frustrated when someone tries to yell at me with a bunch of questions. The only sign that shows that im aware of someone's presence is when tears start rolling down my face and my breathing gets really heavy and uncontrollable and I will smack my lips at times. Had one last night and had a massive headache.

Look at non epileptic seizures, I have the same thing. When it happens just fully relax and let it take over. If you resist, you’ll be stuck in the seizure for longer.

@@orangejuliaa It's pretty complicated, but I'll give the shortest summary I can, haha! It's a fantasy novel, revolving around characters maintaining social lives both on Earth and in a separate world (a geographic replica of Earth if humans didn't destroy the climate). But since humans have found their way back into the untouched world, the natural magic of the world is starting to become tainted (by smoke, CO2, erosion, etc). The tainted magic is starting to make the characters sick, and they have to find a way to save the world before they can't survive there anymore. One of the main characters is already epileptic, but the "circumstances" I referenced is the magic/pollution further affecting her health. Hope that makes sense! I can explain more if it doesn't :)

I had epilepsy as a kid. I fortunately grew out of it as an adult. In elementary school I had to get tutoring for almost all the major classes like Math,Science,English,History. Around 6th grade one of my tutors noticed me totally starring off during our session. Once she noticed it she realized I was doing this all day long throughout the day and talked to my parents. My parents took me to a couple different doctors to try and see if anything could be diagnosed. And thats when I had my first EKG. I remember feeling like I was being abducted by aliens with all those wires and then they asked me to sleep. I thought are you out of your mind how could I sleep rn. I guess thats why they made me stay up all night huh. Eventually the doctors came back and said yes absolutely your child has epilepsy. I was having up to 400-500 absent seizures everyday. Pretty remarkable even as an full grown man now I still cant fathom how much time I lost while nodding out. This video definitely should be shown is schools and teachers should be taught to look for this in students who are struggling.

@ellierossi Look into absent seizures. I have focal seizures, my daughter has absent seizures. There’s a huge difference and it’s worth looking into. Absent seizures are actually really common in children. (Also my daughters name is Ellie Rose)

@@avapilsen with focal seizures the person having one is able to make noises like their having tic’s. And your able to lead them around like the teacher was able to do with Haley. Absence seizures take away all control of you body and mind. It’s like your away from yourself, which is why it’s called an absence seizure. Your literally absent from your mind. And sometimes while your having and absence seizure your body might jerk, shake or tremor.

I've had this type of seizure for close to 70 years. This is the first time I've seen a video of someone having one although it looks like this particular one was "planned" to show people what they look like, it's really helpful. It's kind of funny to see the similarities with people asking what are you looking at or people will turn and look to see what it is that I'm looking at. There are different ways they can manifest. Some are more intense than others, example sometimes I can understand what someone is saying and as soon as it stops I can respond accordingly. Other times I am not able to comprehend what is being said so when it passes I just ask them to repeat what they said. I have as few as 5 or so in a day other times they are so frequent I'm am unable to count them, they are easily over 200 or more. Most times I am able to respond, for instance if someone is talking to me I hold up my hand with my index finger pointing upward to let the people who know what's happening to hold on for just a minute and I'll be right back. I'm so thankful people are making these videos nowadays because when I was a kid in the 1950's and 60's these type of seizures were not seen as being real. My parents were told I was just looking for attention and that I spent my time at school daydreaming. When they were finally diagnosed as seizures when I was 19, I was just so relieved because now I could tell my parents what had been happening my whole life. Unfortunately, having epilepsy came with all types of downsides, it was seen as a stigma, a mental health problem. So thanks to all who did this video and other videos showing, finally, that this is real. And, once you know you can educate those around you that it's not scary or devastating.

Before my surgery i had 100 complex partial seizures a day and up to 300 a night. Now I have been 4 years seizure free and no longer on any epileptic drugs. Mine were very similar. I hope she gets approved for surgery.

I had my first seizure ever today. And it was also my first workday at my new job 😂 You can imagine how I felt after. Weird thing was that I was just sitting at the desk and then I woke up on the floor with my boss talking to me. I didn’t even question why I was on the floor, it just felt totally normal, until the ambulance came into the room. Thats when I understood. Be careful with yourselves, everyone!

That’s the only type they show in movies, so theres a general miseducation that tonic clonic (shaking seizures) are the only type you can have. It depends on what area of the brain it comes from, and if it’s partial or generalized. Generalized means the whole brain, and within that there are six different types I think. Then within partial, there is partial simple and partial complex (loss of consciousness). Within those, the different areas you could have them in makes the symptoms different. Frontal, temporal, parietal, occipital. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense

+Lillian Akira Good grief! How do you manage to get through your day and digest any material during the lecture? I have some weird something that my neurologist said was not epilepsy, but cannot identify what it is after 2 MRIs in a freezing cold room, multiple blood tests as if I was a pin cushion, 1 EEG, 2 or 3 vision tests and an endocrinological tests, so that's encouraging. All tests came back normal. The radiologist did however spot that I had an enlarged pituitary gland, a pituitary adenoma.

Very recently, I myself had a focal seizure at work, thankfully I caught my focal seizure within minutes before disaster hit! I managed to walk to my supervisor and let her know that I was leaving early from work to rest. Then a day after, I managed to return back to work with caution.

Focals are really horrible. They keep you fully awake while your entire body turns upside down. Everything causing Deja vu - your mind tries to make everything as if it comes from long term memory. If I have multiple focals in a day, they usually lead to a full grand mal at some point. Oh, and mine is adult onset epilepsy, so i haven’t had a life of safeguarding processes etc. what a lovely 30th birthday present

@@scottyoung5648 We give my son cannabis oil for his epilepsy as well as another medication. Neither of them require smoking anything and the dosages are high enough to help control his epilepsy and low enough so that he doesn't get high.

I have photosensitive epilepsy, which may have evolved into a general type, which means I've had a lot of different types of seizure, some similar to this. I think it's important that these videos exist for recognising when even a mild seizure is occurring. There's a lot of misinformation about seizure types, even for patients like myself, since it's often the case that we don't even know we've had a seizure unless someone tells us afterwards, particularly during an absence which is also scary since we aren't in control or present in our bodies.

Through my school years from kindergarten to my senior year of high school I suffered from epilepsy. My seizures were very random and at different times. My body would lay down on one side stiff like I was planking, my eyes would go to the left so I'd have to correct by moving my head to the right, gag before any seizures hit, my body would move on it's own when I'd have absent seizures and sometimes have uncontrollable screaming and wake up in random places, extream dizziness that make my body drop suddenly. The recovery time could last an hour or so, depending on which one I would have at that moment. We found out that it was the stress from school that was the underlying cause. I rarely have my epilepsy episodes now because I keep myself less stressed.

I've lived with epilepsy for approximately 20 years.I wish my middle and high school teachers/classmates were this understanding and kind. All I experienced was being bullied, and teachers think i was acting out or purposely sleeping in class. And then my experience with school is if you have a twin who isn't epileptic, when you two argue, she'll encourage people to bully you. Not to mention my middle school bus driver twice left me in the middle of the road and drove off leaving me alone while all students including my twin boarded the bus...

I have epilepsy actions, it started at a very young age, I was around 6 years old now am 12, I have to take medication every single day. When I watched these videos I could relate to what I do and what could happen to me if I don't take medication 😔 btw am getting a lot better now, I haven't had an epilepsy action for quit a while 🙂.... but like I said if I stop taking medication it can start again but even worse!!

I was diagnosed with epilepsy 3 days ago following a first seizure on my 18th birthday on holiday (bad timing Ik) and I also have the flashing light epilepsy (I’m terrible with names). I have had myoclonic seizures most days since I was 12/13 but we just thought it was me just growing up. I have had other signs and problems relating to it over the years so I am glad I now know what has been going on. Once I was diagnosed (I had an EEG and was gonna have an MRI but they didn’t think it was necessary after) I have immediately been out on medication. Hopefully it’ll help it but naturally I’m more hyper-vigilant and aware of my body.

I’m glad mine cured due to medication ( which I still take now) but it should still be considered as a issue even if it’s a minor condition. Living with epilepsy although it looks normal isn’t really fun and I have to let others know I do have a condition even if it’s minor.

It seems to be very hard for a lot of people in public to even realize when I have these absence seizures. I wish I knew how many I have but I know I at least have one a day. The doctors did tests on my brain over the weekend (I forgot what it was called) and they said the following day I had seizures when I had no clue AT ALL that I did completely felt normal..

I've been ticking for years now and didn't know what was happening. My Dr. Diagnosed it as restless leg syndrome. just don't know where to go from here.

Just wanted to say, if anyone see someone suffering this type of seizures take you time to make sure they back to normal or dial emergency number, my Son suffer for this type of seizures and we live on Houston the doctors make like 30 EEG's and other 30 MRI's they just make a Brain laser abrasion, and is being under several medications, nothing seems to be working, he is also taking prescribed CBD helps but not 100% he is 18 years now, best of luck for everyone.

I remember my first documented seizure. We aren’t sure what type it was but it lasted for a long while and it was scary because my mother was freaking out the whole time. I haven’t had another one like that but my friends say that they have noticed me have absence seizures or petit mal seizures. Sometimes they don’t notice it because I also have Tourette’s and it’s been written off as a tic before. I don’t normally remember these ones and only realized they happen after being told and seeing them on video.

What was your seizure like? I had screaming/yelling noises, fell on the floor and I could move my legs after that but not my arms. I laid there yelling/screaming bloody murder over and over again like someone was repeatedly stabbing me, while my fiancé called 911. This was the second time something like this had happened. It’s completely exhausting afterwards. I’m assuming it is a seizure of some sort? 🤷‍♀️

My grandson did this....he stopped playing suddenly then just stared off, his arms out to his side for sure clue something was amiss. He was effected in his sleep mostly. My daughter still seems to be in denial. So sad....hard on all the family

I have focal epilepsy and did not know what was happening to me every day and never got it checked out, I eventually had a grand mal seizure and entered a coma for 2 days. I encourage anyone who has strange visions/feelings like this to get checked out.

I started getting strange partial seizures a few years ago, mostly when I drank excessive alcohol. Nowadays, it is very rare. I still tense up though, my eyes getting locked onto the ceiling, and I convulse, but I am still aware at the same time but couldn't stop what was happening to my body no matter how hard I told my body to stop...My doctor doesn't even know why...At least the episodes aren't as frequent as they used to be since I reduced my alcohol intake. :/

Maybe try taking thiamine. It is a type of B vitamin. Something called BeriBeri (Thiamine deficiency) can cause seizures. Alcohol can cause severe vitamin and mineral depletion. Docs don’t usually mention this, but it takes a long time for vitamin storage to build back up in the body. Some weeks, some months, some even up to a couple of years. Most tests only pick up what’s in the blood stream. But what your body uses is what is in your tissues and bone, etc. That is your storage. ❤ I hope you feel better soon. It’s not fun dealing with conditions for which you can’t find an explanation/treatment/cure for.

I thought I’d check this video to see what a focal seizure looks like as I’ve been told that when I described one of the seizures I had ie pulling at clothes it was a focal seizure I was only diagnosed 3 years ago so it’s still a new thing to me I don’t have any warnings or know when I’m about to have them

Im a hardcore gamer for four years. I recently was given meds for seizures I also noticed how frequent my zoning outs have become to the point where I feel like i dont seem to get enough idea as to how I really play like i zone out all of a sudden and it sucks you know in thr middle of the game with so much little time, I get rlly frustrated

I have siezures like this too! I went to get and EEG and now I know why I don’t remember little things. It’s all black to me. I even have them while driving sometimes. I’ve never gotten in to a accident. I drive a very slow car. I’m very lucky to be here

Auras never get easier. I’ll have them while both dreaming or while awake. I feel like I can hear the dead speaking and architypes of my concsiousness rapidly intensifying. It causes unparralleled nausea and mental exhaustion. Ive only gone into grand mal once, thankfully.

I have Non-Epileptic Seizures. This means they are not caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. My seizures are caused by stress. I used to have up to five a day, but now it is down to two a month.

Heyyy another person here with NEAD/ non-epileptic seizures. In school I can have up to 10 focal seizures an hour, I tend to have about 5 slightly bigger seizures a day- not fun but onwards and upwards we go

I have OCD and experience focal aware seizures (or something like a focal aware seizure. In the process of maybe getting diagnosed) and when people interact with me while I’m having an episode, it can worsen the effects and can result to violent compulsions, worse seizures or seizure like symptoms and even melt downs. I don’t know how most epileptics who have partial seizures, react, but this is me, and I think most would prefer they not be interacted with when having an episode. Just wait it out... they’ll return.

Victoria Martinez A person with focal seizures will do movements like picking at his clothes or lip smacking and stare into space. Whereas a person with absence seziures will stop all his movements and speech all of a sudden and stare into space. His eyes might flutter and he will look like he is daydreaming.

Victoria Martinez I'm not completely sure but I'm pretty sure that an absence seizure can look like this but can cause small stops in between some activities that's why it has "absence" in it I think. I'm not really sure but I watched a video of a girl and her friends playing skipping and she kept stopping the rope and standing still without noticing.

I have epilepsy and I’ve had one of these seizures once at a camp (u was there for a week) my seizures are usually obvious and my eyes go side to side really quickly and I make weird sounds. I had one of those and then after I started shaking uncontrollably

Hello everyone so I'm finding out i have some sort of seizures or epilepsy. My body shakes a lot and bearly even move but I'm conscious and if it to much for me to handle i try to fight it i eventually end up shaking harder and if it's weak i can walk but for so long ... Happened last time i was going to pee but i couldn't i manage to control it at the end by myself. What kind do i have? Also i it would stop and then come back this while I'm conscious.

😔my son have seizures and the doctors ranned tests and have done eegs mri's cat scans and all and they still can't seem to figure out what's causing my son to have them it's like he have like a cramp in his foot his body locks and he falls to the ground and then he starts to seize and I have several videos of it I just don't under what's going on and me taking him to the hospital does no justice because they act like they don't know what to do
