Pickups should matter since they make or break the sound of a guitar . Its not the wood or magic mojo . There is a world of difference between Custombuckers and the 490/498 mudbuckers that come in a an LP Studio .

Its its a bit of everything tbh. You can take the same pickups and put them in a studio and it won’t sound exactly the same. The sound of a guitar is the sum of kid parts but some things do matter more than others. I think that’s why they can comfortably put laurel on these models. Have you ever noticed that diff between old customs and standards before the hot pickups was marginal if non existent despite the ebony?

The 490R and 498T are in both the Epiphone Gibson Custom shop Les Paul custom and the 6k Gibson custom shop Les Paul custom...They are much more versatile than the custom buckers and will do what a custom bucker will do and more, especially when you need more gain.... The custom buckers are good too but tend to muddy up more than the 490R/498T pairing does.

Serious question , would you recommend if I were to get actual medium jumbo frets on this guitar or jumbo frets!? Would that make the playing experience better and more like the Gibson counterpart? Given that the frets are sanded , smooth and the edges rounded ?

I would get the frets that come on it.

@@pickingpower Ok i appreciate your input !! I assume getting anything else would probably obscure the feel of the neck is probably why you are get the frets that comes with it ? Last question what if I were to get the fretboard lacquered do you think this could enhance the feel of the neck / playing experience ?

do the pickup rings not lay flush on the body? is there a gap ?

They lay flush. It is probably just a shadow you're seeing in the video. I can't get my thinnest feeler gauge under it.
