I bought this a couple months ago and I concur. I never thought Epiphone would come out with something like this. I had a choice of getting the dark burst or the heritage cherry and it really came down to the fact that the dark burst was much lighter in weight so that’s the one I picked. I actually traded in my 1960 Tribute Plus for it because I liked the fatter 1959 neck to the slim 1960 one. Honestly, if the necks had been the same it would have been a harder choice. The ‘57 Gibson pickups on the 1960 Tribute were amazing.

It comes close to playing and sounding as good as my R9... the only thing missing... fret nibs.

Also - separate comment - I've watched your whole series for this Epiphone 1959 and they're cracking indeed, excellent work. But the real comment I want to make here is that you play very tastefully when you demo the guitars, you play with a lot of soul and feeling in those lingering notes and string bends. I'm unfamiliar with the many of the tunes you're playing if they are covers, but regardless, you play them well and it's always very listenable.

Thanks for the kinds words! I try my best to play something relevant to the guitar and generally find a chord progression by a relevant player of that model and then use that idea to jam around and see where I end up! Sometimes it works really well, although often I’m not happy with what I recorded and wish I’d chosen something else! 😂 like all of us I’m very critical of my own playing and constantly strive to get better. Positive feedback like this is really appreciated so thank you! 🙏
@gurtana3 жыл бұрын
@@theguitaristas well I appreciate the effort and the playing. I like that you play over a backing track so that you can hear what the guitar is capable of in the context of a song! I am beginning to loathe ‘dry’ demos only where the guitar is played without backing and sometimes without even a touch of reverb or delay. Those demos usually involve someone neck shredding too, but to my ear those are un-melodic.

In case anyone is curious, Andertons in the UK got a European exclusive to this with the lemon drop colour, so a bit more like a Peter Green/Gary Moore or Slash AFD. I always love these videos, just a down to earth working man review in super detail. Amazing mix of detail and humility for the unwashed guitar masses like myself. Tried 4 1959 Epiphones today, 3 sounded pretty good, almost great, and one sounded ABSOLUTELY great, but there are several reasons I didn't buy it. All had frets that needed polished, none of them were setup well and the one that sounded terrific was damaged from the factory (looked like dropped) or at the Guitar Shop and the nut needed re-cut for the E-string and a knob was missing. Unfortunately, that was the one that I would want to buy. The "So What" is I wouldn't if you plan on buying one I would play in person and factor in a setup, fret polish, and/or level. The tone/sound was consistent across 3 with 1 being a jewel on my first run at playing these. I'll keep hunting for one, but I'm not as excited as I was previously. I wish the frets were taller, and stainless, but that wouldn't be period correct. May the odds be ever in your favor.

I got one in faded cherry a little over a year ago…only add I did was a Taber tail piece. Whether it made a difference or not, can’t really tell but to justify my $80 dollar Canadian investment I lie and tell myself “it added sustain”…lol…I must agree with your points…it sounds amazing and actually stays in tune very well…allows those screaming solos up high vis a vis Gary Moore types. Intonation can be dialed in exceptionally precise and that perfect “beefy” neck profile lets you know it is a Les Paul. Closest I have seen Epiphone do Justice to a Gibson save my 2005 MIK Epi G400 Vintage. Primarily I am a Strat man but like most love LPs, SGs, semi-hollow bodies and Teles. I set the pups at factory height, lowered the action to where bends don’t choke out, fine tuned the intonation and she’s a beast….volume and tone pots are extremely precise and the pups are damn near perfect. I know longer gig (59 now done with lugging’ kit and have a great day gig lol) but write and record a lot in my home studio. For 1200 taxes in for Canada, this is a great guitar…nice case too…I am always looking at and buying well made sounding/playing guitars for a great price. This reminds me of when Fender came out with the MIM Players Series Strats….as close to as the MIA lines one can get for much less denaros….great review as usual…love your channel and vibe !! ❤

Another great video really enjoyed your relaxed style. I’m curious i know you liked the Epiphone 50’s gold top, how is this different better or worse? Cheers.
@theguitaristas3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for kind words!... I’m loving the goldtop right now and using at home for practice, I guess it has similarities with this but also some differences! Most obvious is the feel (not in size) of neck as the ‘59 is very nice satin smooth vs glossy on goldtop. I think we should bring it out for some comparisons and also I may swap the pickups for these from the ‘59 to see if that makes even better? Cheers! 😎👍🎸
@benallmark96713 жыл бұрын
@@theguitaristas I’d love to see what happens if you choose to that. I’d consider doing the same if you think that’s the ticket. I also have the 60’s and I’m guessing if it had the pickup from the 59 it would most likely be an upgrade as well

You won't lose me as a viewer. I had a epiphone plus top pro with lollar imperials installed and the pots and compacitors changed. We have done a comparison with a 2015? Les paul standard and it won. Hands down . I purchased a 1960 les paul standard reissue about a month ago. Spent the big bucks. Not much difference in sound but there is in feel. Both are very enjoyable to play. Worth the difference in money for a player guitar. I would say only if you are really that good of a player but purely dependent on you and only you.

Thanks a lot for these series of videos about the Epiphone LP 59. I personally did some very modest research and comparison between this guitar and some few others and guess what…. I just called a near by music shop here in south of Sweden and the guitar seems to be available 🤩 So Hopefully within a few minutes I’ll be there, try it and most probably I’m coming back home with a new piece of happiness. So thanks again for helping me taking a clear decision about the new guitar I’m about to buy. Btw: Which piece of music were you playing in this video? Is it an original or a cover to something that I may have missed? It’s beautiful and would love to play it if there is a name/tab for it. Keep up the great work and thanks again.

Hey man that's great news that you found one... hope you get it and love it! Re the music it's not a cover as such, but i take parts and chord progressions and ideas from songs that inspire me and improvise around them... this idea came from Aerosmith Dream On with a bit of Eminem thrown in!... it's just 3 chords but when they work like this and inspire melodies from nowhere it's magic! Enjoy that guitar dude!

@@theguitaristas Thanks buddy for your response 😃 Just came back from the music shop after I sealed the deal and bought it. @@theguitaristas i noticed areas of contact were polished up from t-shirt wear so I tried a bit of polish on the back of the headstock and it came up a treat with little effort. Well, I did it! I bought an Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard! Between your channel and Anderton's I just had to take the chance. From what I see this guitar is as much a Les Paul as any Gibson.
