It must be so amazing and wonderful to be set free from the controlling power and spirit of religion! You go, ya'll! Live On!

Speaking as someone for whom the church never really worked - There's still a lot to unravel and deconstruct. There are many concepts that are internalized that you're not even aware of, let alone are aware of as tied to the church, until something big happens in your life (or you go to therapy). So identity crisis may not be as large as someone who was very devout, but the insidious nature of what is taught in the church is what gets me personally.

Another great episode! We reconnected with former ward members, too. Navigating out of the church together has been a huge gift. They are my people. They get it! Taking back ownership of my body is a major one, too. It's bizarre to me now that I gave an organization so much control over my body. Also gained insight by using plant medicine. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I love your focus on building a life after deconstruction. It's beautiful on this side. ❤❤

I just started this episode, but I want to point out something about the situation with the dad that was sitting outside the temple while his daughter got married. Tears formed in my eyes, a lump in my throat rose up, and an ache in my heart has caused me to reflect the gravity of this situation. There are many big milestones in Mormonism that require “worthiness” in order to participate. When a father either isn’t willing or able to submit to a worthiness interview, answering all questions correctly, he is unable to be part of those big milestones. His child, as a result of what the church does to separate members according to their works, needs a “Dad” substitute (whether it is a grandpa, an uncle, a family friend, a church leader, or even a random church member). How sad is it that this child absolutely has a loving father who wants to be there, but for that major milestone, it is as though this child is an orphan?! When a church member does not live up to the “standards” of the church, or is not willing to submit to the dictates of church leaders, …a HUGE, VISIBLE “othering” takes place. During these major milestone moments, the church unrighteously practices its dominion over its members and takes away children from their parents. This is reminiscent of the FLDS taking children away from their parents to join the Yearning For Zion Ranch. 😳 😢

They’re all about Jesus all of a sudden but their doctrine and culture are anti Christian. When did the actual Jesus set up all those horrible rules? Or did he say LOVE ONE ANOTHER. They do unspeakable harm.

Apparently the church agrees it IS more important for parents and loved ones to be at a wedding… as evidenced by -> The church recently changed its policies to allow people to have civil weddings first, and then be able to get sealed directly after them. No more year of waiting.

Loved the ideas for rebuilding an identity after faith crisis. One thing I did was take up flying. I’d always wanted to become a pilot and I found flight school and the different levels of ratings as a pilot to give my mind a constructive place to go, help me grow, provide a new community and assist with giving me a new identity. Lots of spiritual experiences flying above this beautiful earth, and I’m now Athiest! 😂I recommend immersing yourself in something you can be passionate about while expanding your horizons and growing. I really like what you said about exercise and plan to get back at the hiking and running. Thanks for the podcast

You remind me of when - after BYU and a few years into a miserable temple marriage - I went to a bar with a friend. Wow. Just regular people having a beer and talking and laughing. Grown people! Having fun! Not worried about being worthy or achieving perfection. Just relaxing. Not what I’d been led to believe about pubs or beer. 😄

I've watched your journey with psilocybin and want to try it but am afraid of having a bad reaction similar to cannabis. Once I learned the correct dose of can for me, I have experienced similar breakthroughs as yours.

Mormons, NO RESTORATION IS NEEDED. Because Jesus already has established His Church. MATTHEW 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it..." JUDE 3 "Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints..." Jesus already has established His Church and built it on a rock so the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. Also, the faith was ONCE and for all already delivered to the saints. No mention of any Mormon restoration in the past, present, or future.
