Hello from a Kiwi living in the UK. Lisa from Unwind and knit with me recommended your podcast. I'm so glad she did. I've thoroughly enjoyed binge watching 4 episodes so far. I've been home recently visiting family in Rangiora and Havelock North and came home with a huge amount of Kiwi yarn. While in Christchurch I visited Lisa, Wild Earth Yarns and Get Flocked plus the two yarn shops in Rangiora. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time travelling. Kia Kaha.

You will LOVE the Sophie shawl. I have made two, one large and one medium. The beauty of this shawl is that you can knit until you reach half of your desired length and then start decreasing, so you can tailor it to your needs. Super addicting. I'm going to make some more for sure. You will want to buy a lot of Norwegian yarn. It's so gorgeous, the colors of Hilesvag, Rauma, etc. You may want to ship that back too (hint hint).

Hi from Norway, your podcast just popped up in my feed, I really enjoyed watching! Quite fascinating to hear about knitting life on the other side of the world, and finding out it is not too different from mine! Your trip sounds really great, and you are even going to Norway! As you said you love woolly yarns, I really recomend you check out the yarns from Hillesvåg and Rauma, lovely woolly yarn in Norwegian wool. If you are in Oslo you will find both at Husfliden situated downstairs in the department store "Glassmagasinet". "Fru Kvist", "Pickles" and "Garntopia" are also lovely yarn shops in Oslo. I am really looking forwards to hearing about your trip, also the odd castle. Enjoy!

Yes I’ve heard that about Lisa also - the Chiaogoo set is missing the 3mm, but includes the 2.75mm weirdly. I was a die-hard KnitPro fan until I started using Chiaogoo…I’ve hardly used my Mindfuls since I got my Chiaogoo set. I have the 5” tip set and the mini sets that go from 2mm-3.25mm and 3.5mm-5mm - I use them a lot for socks, hats and sleeves. Would highly recommend!

Hi thank you for another interesting video. The fact that both of you knit is wonderful. I'm South African, living in England for the last 19 years. Mainly came over with my husband for his medical needs. Which wasn't that successful. I really enjoy Southern hemisphere people's podcasts, maybe it's the accent and ofcourse the amazing knitting. When growing up in South Africa, I learned to knit at the age of five, 73 now. There wasn't a lot of knitting, my mother always had to have a Jaeger mohair cardigan, knitted with English mohair and I followed that, but my children wouldn't cuddle up with me because they didn't like the texture. And I'm very wool sensitive. I knitted many children's clothes, but as the kids grew up they didn't really want more and then the dreaded track suits came into our lives and I could make them. Colour work wasn't really what we liked where we were in Johannesburg and my children only liked stocking stitch. Cables were totally not for them and they told me that it looked like a very Afrikaans cake . After one of my husband's problems, he had lymphedema and I couldn't find any socks that fitted him, so I taught myself to knit socks. I'm dyslexic and bought Ann But's sock book, not knowing the difference between English and American jargen. After a lot of swearing in Afrikaans, I'm still knitting socks, Vanilla socks, but most English people at the garden centre in Cambridge, can't believe one can do that. I have yet to find yarn shops in the vicinity, and find buying affordable yarn online terrible and spend my days returning yarn. KZbin was also not that familiar and now I am totally addicted. If only I had it with the sock learning saga. I love mytered knitting, and ended up knitting 3 huge blankets. Will still knit a body warmer, just need a pattern and see many pictures, but most knitters are Russian or an alphabet I can't understand. I spent 3 months in South Africa with my daughter, but came back to England with a sad heart after seeing my country...... I'm really jealous of your trip, but travelling to SA and back was enough. I hope you enjoy your marathon trip and ship all your goods back to New Zealand. Nearly forgot, you are the first people who talked about jerseys. When I just got to England and I talked about a jersey people couldn't understand me. I'm really interested in the recycled grey New Zealand wool. Would love to knit a blanket with that as back ground colour, with many bright spots of colour. Sorry for this "essay " as my children call it. Take care and God bless Anita
@justanotherknittingpodcast2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing some of your story Anita 😊 I worry that people won’t be able to understand our accent, but your South African accent is probably similar to ours.

Your gauge can change if you are tired, stressed or rushing. Also the wool can with the weather conditions, absorb more moisture/humidity. So the yarn may have varying moisture content and fluff up thicker. More likely, during the spinning production process, variable micron staple thickness. As the wool doesn't come from one sheep only. Like us, we all have different thicknesses of hair.
