Your waffle is just a delight and you had my full attention throughout, especially all the discussion about vintage and retro - really interesting! I loved looking through your box of fabric memories - what a dilemma, trying to decide what to do with them! I loved the wildlife at the beginning and seeing Pete out walking by the sea at the end. Thank you once again for your lovely company! x

We are presently sorting and packing up my parent’s home after my dear old Dad died. I found your packing and sorting insights of your mum’s home helpful. My mum was a beautiful seamstress and had boxes of vintage fabric pieces. Years ago I made a lap quilt from 5 inch squares from these ,set on point, with no repeat fabrics , and hung it as a wall hanging. A textile photo album. Don’t chop up the white cloth it is so unique. So are the dresses. New puppy and Tommy are adorable. Sooo good to see Pete and the sea air is always a tonic.

White cloth going to be washed and used, I could never cut it up it would be awful. Your quilt sounds wonderful. When I made quilts years ago I never thought they would become precious but of course like your quilt they are now. I have an idea for the dresses, will tell you next time. Pete improving nicely, thanks. xx

Hi Pene. Lovely to see you again. You obviously look after your clothes very well for them to be looking so good still. I wish I'd kept some of me early knits. As you know, I've been having a declutter, but I feel your precious fabrics should be used not stored away so that you can take pleasure from them every day. Ozzy looked slightly terrified of Tommy but I'm sure they'll become the best of friends. Lovely to see Pete up and about. I bet the sea air did you both the world of good. Xxx

Think I'd reuse it and enjoy looking at it. You still have the memories , whether it's in the box or being used for something else. Your friend will love the shawl, it's beautiful. I just realizes that my two boys are exactly the same age as your two girls. How fun! I was born post-war in 1947 but Bob was born in 1942 so we had one of his ration books from when he was a baby. Our son has it now. So much fun going through the years with you. Retro is my favorite as it tugs at my heart strings as my coming of age years. We had short skirts and the Beatles were everything. We wanted nothing more than to go to London, where the fashion was happening. I remember hearing about Carnaby St. thanks for the trip today.

Lovely to see you again Penelope. So very pleased to see Pete up and about and his health improving so quickly. I too follow Stitch with Rachel and I am doing her temperature quilt sew a long. It is interesting seeing all the different patterns everyone has chosen, some EPP and some patchwork. I am doing EPP flowers. I think the dress you have already cut the fabric off, you should keep doing the same and make something special from it. I love the pretty dress you made your granddaughter. I have all grandsons but maybe some great granddaughters will arrive in the very distant future. What memories I had when you brought out the Golden Hands book. I used to have the full set of them, all in their folders. I departed company with them during a move. I love catching up and hope everyone keeps well and healthy xx

Like everyone else Penny, I love listening to you - it’s most definitely like having a chinwag with a friend. I’m glad Pete is getting stronger but sorry about dementia. My gran and mum both had it, it’s not fun for them or you but either way your wonderful outlook on life I am sure you and Pete will weather this next phase as you have all your lives together. Loved all your knitting - you’ve done, and do, lovely work. With the greatest respect, re all the pretty dresses you ever kept, at some point your family will have to decide what to do with them all - as you did with all your mum’s bits and bobs. Make their life easier by making decisions before they have to. You know it’s heartbreaking work for the family. It will be hard for you too, you’ve made beautiful things 🤗🥰. How wonderful to see Pete walking towards you. Thank you for a wonderful chinwag 🤗🥰

Ah sorry to give the wrong impression; yes Pete is getting stronger and better and has been confused due to all the drugs he had in hospital, but now his head is clearer and things are falling into place. Knowing that the dementia society recommend talking, yes they used the word Chinwag, I thought was interesting as having prolonged separation from friends due to illness isn't that good for you. So friends have been popping round now and it's been just right. I'm sorry your gran and mum had it as you're right I think its a hard disease to manage and witness. I've decided about the dresses and realised it was the top of the dress I'm attached to and I've decided I'm going to make a project bag from them - watch this space! Thanks for being there and sharing Chinwag with me. xx

Another lovely video! I think about what I want to have showing when I want a nice, peaceful video and it is always you. The vintage discussion was particularly fun. We have a house full of vintage everything and some antique items. My daughter makes items from repurposed and vintage items (mostly linens and fabrics, wool - woven or knit) and people give her so much we hardly have to buy any unless she needs to fill in or finds something she cannot resist. I gave her a plaid wool cape and a gorgeous heavy wool poncho from my youth (I'm 70) and everything she made from those fabrics flew off the shelves/pegs. I've given her my cherished clothing pieces as well. What good do they do in the trunk? Tommy and Ozzy will have great times together. Whippets are fine dogs. So glad Pete is making more progress and able to be in his kitchen and back out of doors. You look very well. I'm sure your girls' lunch was a success and your friend loved the shawl. 100 episodes! What an achievement!

Thank you, thankyou! What a fun and pleasant chinwag! We are the same age so I relate to it all. Names and faces are frequently impossible...even those of dear friends. Love your vintage clothes, but what do we do with those things, especially when bits are missing. 🙂 Pete looks wonderful! What a miracle. I was knitting on my 3rd sock while I listened this evening, and I think I may have finally caught on. Thank you so for motivating this new learning experience. And thanks for mentioning the shawl pattern as I have been wondering about it. Tommy and Ozzy made a great photo. They look perfect together.

Groovy . . . . now that’s vintage! I so loved this episode. I tend to use my clothes for many, many years (25 years is not that old!), but I don’t have many of the things I made for myself and my sons in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I’m afraid I’ve moved around too much to have held on to those things. I loved seeing your things. Thank you for sharing. Please put that pulled work tablecloth on a table. It just can’t be kept in a box. It is absolutely stunning. There is nothing wrong with having melted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch at a table set with that beautiful cloth! Thank you so much for this episode - and all the others you share with us. I’m so happy Pete is getting better and you are able to rest a bit after all the care you’ve been giving him. Take care and best wishes from a very rainy, but not too cold, part of California. Salam wa sa’aadah

Tom told me that the youngsters are now referring to the1980s and 90s as the late 1900s which really makes me feel old as it sounds so long ago I'm caught between sentimentality and practicality when it comes to keeping things such as your beautiful dresses and fabrics. My Mom made me a hand stitched quilt cover when I was in my teens and I used it for many years but threw it out as some of the stitching came undone and I no longer used a single bed. I now wished I'd saved some of the hexagons from it that had been part of old dresses from my childhood. Oh well 🙄😍 Really pleased to hear that Pete is making such great progress xx

Loved seeing you go through your vintage fabrics. I had to choose a few things from my mothers things when I cleared her house (she lives in a care home now) and have a similar collection. Tablecloths and clothes. I put all her stuff in storage and don't know whether to bring it to America or sell it in the UK. Sentimental or just mental! It would cost 8,000 English pounds to ship it across! Thanks for the chinwag. Loved seeing the Jay, knitting the WYS yarn of that name, one of my favourite British birds. I hadn't realised that the parrots had made it all the way down south!! We saw them everywhere in London. Jane xx PS I have not seen the Grunion run although it's often on the news in the spring. Hi Pene, I have the same dilemma with vintage embroidered tablecloths (I'm so in awe of the work it took to make them) also what to do with retro clothes that I kept because I like the fabric. Every so often I take them out planning to reduce my pile but they all end up back in the press for another day. 😆

Have never heard of Wabi sabi before but am now going to embrace it rather than strive for perfection in my makes. Can't help you with what to do with your Vintage items sadly. I had a full set of Golden Hands that were taking up masses of space in their binders under the stairs so they gradually went out for recycling over lockdown when I was having a sort out 😊. Glad to see Pete is continuing to regain his health.

I love Wabi sabi, it makes such a difference to everything! I just had the one Golden Hands given to me by a friend. You can't keep everything can you. Washing machine head has eased thank goodness. I'll tell you my plans next episode. xx

Washing machine head is a perfect metaphor for my brain most days.🙄 Vintage or retro, all those fabrics are lovely. Cut them and use them in quilts or small projects so they can live on and be enjoyed. Pass them on to the younger generations, telling the story of each fabric and why it is special. For me, each quilt I make is meant to be used, so I hope they get tattered and worn and not stuck in a box somewhere. Same with pretty fabrics. My love is making it, not seeing it stuck in a closet. I see lots of potential in those beautiful vintage/retro fabrics. But I'm on a mission to minimize my stash and declutter the excess. I am helping my mom with "death cleaning". Maybe you don't want to listen to me😉. If you are not using the tablecloth, give it to someone who will or who can resell it to someone. it is beautiful. I find ocean life fascinating. Maybe because I live no where near it. I've been enjoying some underwater videos on Facebook showing octopus and squid. So cool.😎 Thanks for.sharing. what a nice chinwag. So glad Pete is doing well.🤗 take care.

As usual your comment is interesting Karen. My head is on spin cycle now so decisions are being made about dresses and cloth - with your help! It so helped with my grief going through my mum's stuff, not clutter but things she cherished enough to keep hold of. I absolutely love octopus and squid. They are so intelligent - I could never bring myself to eat one! Have a good week, see you soon. xx
