Saying that internalised misogyny is embedded in most people in society is not an overgeneralisation. Misogyny is deep rooted in our society. Just like racism, xenophobia and many other things, it is a systemic issue. Internalised misogyny doesn’t have to be done with malice intent, people are just brought up within a patriarchal society and pick up unconscious biases and preconceived notions about women and gender roles in general.

I think that many people on the left have this idealistic view that once we get rid of capitalism, everything else will fall into place. But not breaking down or looking at issues like racism, xenophobia, colonialism and misogyny and only focusing on class is why many western leftist like **cough cough** v**** or d***** turn out to be incredibly racist and misogynistic.

i thought he was saying that to be careful not to steer the focus off race completely because there IS an idea that exists which implies that white men are "less misogynist" than nonwhite men. its an overgeneralization because it doesnt take into account intersectionality. misogyny is definitely ingrained into society as a whole but i think jt was making the point that it is a systemic issue which can not be separated from racism, xenophobia, etc.

I've heard that the Soviet Union had the most consistent system of internal prosecution for war crimes in WW2 and executed many of their own soldiers for sex crimes. Does anyone have sources on that?

I too heard of it. Here what I found on this topic. KZbin didn’t allow me to post it with links so just copy paste what I’ll leave below in the search bar. 1. “ Даже Героев Советского Союза судили за насилие в Германии (военно-судебный архив)” translates to “ Even the Heroes of the Soviet Union were tried for violence in Germany (military-judicial archive)” 2. “ Приговоры ВТ РККА за изнасилования в 1945 (по материалам ОБД Мемориал)” translates to “ Verdicts of the VT Red Army for rape in 1945 (according to the materials of the OBD Memorial)” VT here is for Voennyi Tribunal(Military Tribunal) Both sources are in Russian and should be the first result in google search. But you’d have to use a google translate probably. If you have troubles understanding something like word abbreviation or graphs feel free to ask me.

21:50 I'm glad she corrected hakim on that one, one doesn't simply get to diminish the accusations by calling all of them nonsense. Of course we can call out the media in the way it wrongfully narrates the situation without denying victims their experience.

I had understood Hakim slightly differently -- saying that the stories we were being fed by western media are false in their vast majority, or completely. I thought he referred to the lines about mass-r*pe, beheadings, burnings, etc., not every singly instance of brutality that individual people might have experiences, but have not made their way into mass media. But yeah, either way, I was also glad Izdihar made that point clear.

28:56 Correction: as a muslim american growing up in texas, one of the only times I’ve seen a public school “teach” about islam was having us historically analyze a hadith about taking slave women without actually teaching these kids what hadiths are, so many kids went on thinking that that is an unambiguously accurate representation of all interpretations of islam, and therefore, all muslims. Edit: I don’t mean to say that they should teach what hadiths are and the (often flawed) processes of canonizing them, I just mean to say that that’s an objectively pretty awful thing to show in schools as the literal only exposure to Islamic scripture that most students will get.
@stevensen6541
@stevensen6541 5 ай бұрын
Bro thanks for mentioning the uncertainty of hadith science, it is a pain to argue with some people about it when many view it as divine law and not a system that was developed by people. I genuinely think that it poses one of the biggest attack vectors on Islam due to some weird hadiths in the bukhari and others.

Great conversation, and the ending of our vision for this world made me actually cry. This is the world we must create--are creating. And two points: 1) I'm here as a fan for Lady Izdihar so learned a new channel, thank you. Lady Izdhiar's educating me properly after a terrible Intl Relations/Soviet Union undergrad degree by the Empire's academic industrial complex. 2) For my municipal systems change job, I attended the Federal 2 or 3 day "gold standard" Muslim/Arab/Sikh training for municipal police so I could observe the curriculum & police behavior in the session. The trainers went on and on and on about how the training was gold standard. They stopped the training to give themselves an award. But there was nothing about Arab community (no definition, background, history, nothing). The Sikh trainer was from the community and the topic wandered all over the place but it did cover interesting & some important topics. The Muslim training was sparse and unmemorable. This was for my work where I was trying to create multiculturally prepared first responders to better serve the community for sexual assault/domestic violence. The police & fire department and government officials gave me huge trouble and constantly Islamophobic direct statements. This was in a Blue state's major metropolitan area.

i think hair cover is same as breast no? in west you have to wear bra in most countries, otherwise is obscene, and most women would feel uncomfortable with breasts bare. maybe not germany those guys are wierd 😂😂 but yeah its kinda unfair on women the same as hijab but it is also quite reasonable imo no? such is sex in our culture. no bare boobies. but then this prudishness is false perhaps: is the point of the bra not precisely TO EROTICISE booba? not conceal it? Then is hijab not to eroticise the face/hair of a lady? I think perhaps the criticism is "why don't men have to cover too", not "why do women cover". perhaps we need male hijab.

@@violetm8110oh interesting. I have never seen one that fully covers hair and face thohgh. ultimate issue to learn from psychoanalysis is that if you want to fully desexualise a body you go naked, clothing is the erotic veil! a boob without a bra is just a funny bump.

@@OsirusHandle If you want to see men who cover their hair, google "how do emirati dress" or "saudi men dress" and you will see the headcoverings which many gulf men wear daily (as well as the longsleeve dresses called kanduras / dishdashe / thobes) which are like the male version of the abaya women wear. These headcoverings are common, as are turbans, taqiyah, kufi caps, and keffiyeh. In areas outside of the gulf, headdresses are more common inside of mosques, but some wear them in daily life. Face covering is not as common, neither for men nor women. While some bedouin and rural Muslims still cover their faces with keffiyeh, you can also look into "litham" or "tagelmust" which is a cultural (non-religious) type of male face covering. The Almoravid dynasty (Berber Muslims) were nicknamed "muffled ones" because of this face covering that the men wore.

@@OsirusHandle do you think that the sole purpose of clothes is to eroticise? i'm not talking about the ways in which the way we think of clothing has evolved across cultures and time btw. isn't it the other way around? not revealing some part of yourself to ideally yourself from being sexualised by people who see you or something? i'd argue that the eroticism of clothes is in the mind of the person who sexualises someone who covers some part of themselves, not the person who's trying to not sexualise themselves. like the more something is concealed, the more it is eroticised. that doesn't mean that the reason it was concealed was to eroticise

I take your point but i dont think it works: women eroticise too, and once one is aware of the logic, one is engaged in it. One only needs to cover ones breasts because they are sexual, to try to make them not sexual in a way itself classifies and distinguishes them AS sexual.

I'm sorry, but I can agree with the statement about the Middle East and Northern Africa not being places where people are sexually repressed. According to ILGA, in 2020, all regions and countries in the world in which we could find laws allowing the use of the death penalty for homosexuality were Muslim (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, UAE, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brunei, Mauritania, Somalia, and the north of Nigeria), and the same institution asserts that in the same year we had only three Arab-majority countries where homosexuality wasn't illegal: Bahrain, Jordan, and the West Bank (an area militarily occupied by Israel and things are very different on the other side of the country; I'm talking about the Gaza Strip). So... how can I believe in what was said at the end of this episode...? Facts are facts and they speak very loudly

What does that have to do with sexual repression? Acceptance of the normality of sex, sexuality, and sexual relations has very little to do with the destigmatisation of homosexuality. And last I checked, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Guyana, etc. etc. criminalise homosexuality, and those are not Muslim-majority nations. It's almost as if the poorest countries in the world lag behind the richest in whatever the richest decide is 'moral behaviour' because they are still recovering from the last time the richest pushed 'moral behaviour' on them. The American DSM only completely declassified homosexuality as a mental illness ten years ago, for pity's sake.

What you're exposing here aren't "facts", but confirmation biases: 1.- According to Wikipedia, there are at least 55 countries with at least 40% of Muslim population, and you only listed 11 countries (three of which aren't even in the Middle East or the Magreb/Masreq properly speaking - Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran). That leaves at least *80% of the Muslim world* out of the "sexually repressing" countries, which means that *the dominant Muslim religion isn't the decisive factor in those reactionary policies being taken.* 2.- As @therat1117 commented just before me, there are at least *the same ammount of non-Muslim countries* which also criminalizes homosexuality up to this day, reinforcing the previous conclusion on *religion not being the decisive factor.* 3.- Even in some Western countries where homosexuality is *not* officially criminalized, homosexuality is heavily prosecuted, and LGBT people present increased casualities in both violent and non-violent deaths (due to homophobic/transphobic hate crimes, and also due to discrimination in healthcare). That's the case for example of my own country (Dominican Republic), as well as many other Latin American countries (like Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Perú, etc.) with very conservative Christian Catholic populations. The central point of this episode is precisely that _"Muslim homophobia"_ is over-focused in Western media for ideological/propagandistic purposes (despite being a generalized phenomenon all around the world and not exclusive of any single religion), in order to dehumanize non-Western countries and justify imperialist occupations in the eyes of the Western public.

@@Ajente02 And to add to your third point comrade, US hate crime statistics show that queer people in the United States experience violence at a rate that *exceeds* that experienced by Black people in rate per population, which is almost unthinkable, and that violence against queer people is more likely to escalate, involve use of a weapon, or be fatal. And this violence has been getting worse year-over-year.

@@therat1117 homosexuality isnt important and progressive coutnires such as soviety union criminalsed homosexaulity.in fact russian communsit party is very homophobic or whatever oen call it today as well. Real left rethoric would be something of the sort: "both sides did wrong horrible things, but we should figure out how coexistance would be possible never the less". The most extreme right would be: "There are good guys and there are bad guys and the bad guys should be exterminated. End of story. Dissregard any further measurements". Basically the same rethoric for pro palestinian and pro israeli extremists. Why would the deprogram take an extreme right wing approach? I really dont get it.

@@Cause56 There is nothing left wing by extreme bias towards one side of a conflict. listen again how they dismiss 7/10. What would you think if they said the same exact words about the Nakba? Israel is a name of a state.. You said nothing of value other than calling to dissolve a state. Gazans can continue to exist without Gaza. Ukrainians can continue to exist without Ukraine. It doesnt even sound good unless you are inclined against the state. The amount of likes you got is worrying.

@pplelo9364 historical contex - (the arab didnt want to coexist. They attacked. They lost) * 17. Currently coexistance is impossible because of said arabs. The jews have their faults too but their part is negligible. Good luck refuting that without ignoring historical context. go as far back as you want. on 7/10 Palestinians attacked undisputed land. The land is annexed with all its current people. Not the WB (where the land was conquered but not annexed thats the conflict). They murdered civilians. Israel has in its interest to prevent future occureneces of that. the ethnostate whatever bulshit. All states have restriction about who can enter inside. All states have interests. Israel is protecting its interests. Thats the world we happen to live in.
