Casual versions could be complicated because of a very unique feature of Japanese: feminine-masculine usage of word! Why so may require a historical/cultural review, outside the scope of this site perhaps. A little digression.

Japanese has clear gendered language, shaped by its cultural and historical background. Traditionally, women use softer, more polite expressions like "わたし" (*watashi*) for "I," while men often use stronger words like "俺" (*ore*). Sentence endings also vary, with women adding a gentle tone using "わ" (*wa*) or "のよ" (*no yo*), and men using firmer endings like "だろう" (*darou*) or "ぜ" (*ze*). These differences reflect Japan’s traditional gender roles, where men were expected to be tough and women more submissive. Today, younger generations are less likely to follow these patterns, but gendered language is still an interesting part of learning Japanese, offering a glimpse into its cultural roots.

Thank you very much sensei. I have a question sensei - what's the difference between 余る and 残る? Please explain to me sensei 🙏

Great question! Both 余る and 残る refer to something being "left over" or "remaining," but they are used in slightly different contexts and have nuanced differences: 1. 余る (あまる) Meaning: To exceed or surpass a certain amount, leading to surplus. Focus: Indicates an excess or surplus of something, often beyond what is needed or expected. Context: Often implies that the leftover amount is unnecessary or more than required. Examples: お菓子が余った。 (There were leftover sweets - more than needed.) 時間が余っているので、ちょっと休みましょう。 (We have extra time, so let’s take a break.) 2. 残る (のこる) Meaning: To remain, to stay behind, or to be left after something is taken away. Focus: Indicates something is left after use, consumption, or action. Context: A more neutral term than 余る, often implying the remainder without the nuance of surplus. Examples: 宿題がまだ残っている。 (Homework is still left to do.) パンが少し残った。 (A little bread was left.)
