Dinoland was such an incredibly themed concept with so many small details. I think it might've even been too well done, to the point where people missed the entire point that it was SUPPOSED to be cheesy and over the top.

I never thought of lining up the restrooms in the concept art with the existing park. LOL. It seems obvious now. Great insights.

I wish executives valued the integrity of theme of theme park rather than a quick buck from a movie that’ll be unpopular is 20 years. Expedition Everest is timeless, this not so much. As you said, people don’t book vacations just to point out a character and go “hey I know that” they book vacations to be immersed in another world different than the one they know outside the park.

I quite agree encanto may have enchanted me but there's a number in the non-zero and I'm even probably mean about 60% of their audience probably doesn't like that they've heard the songs in that movie that much.

I respect the use of IPs for the rides, but I enjoy original story ideas much better. I do look forward to the new area once its completed.

I had the great experience of going on probably the slowest safari ride. It was about 1.5 hours it was run for the "Nature and Wildlife Photography" course at the Disney Institute in April of 1999. I'll miss Dinoland, Thank You. I miss the Disney Institute too. I think the good will garnered by it was immeasurable.

I will be thrilled if Encanto is the WDW equivalent of Mystic Manor! ❤

Marty Sklar’s comment on capacity takes me back to Buzz Price’s focus on hourly capacity offering as a function of design day. Something that based on the lack of added capacity to the parks seems to have left current executives’ minds. Heck, nowadays they’re just refurbishing existing rides, flat out keeping capacity the same while bringing in novelty-driven attendance. And hoping noone will notice the decline in quality. Well, we’re noticing.

I would probably categorize the Pandora land as fantasy, so it does already have some of that.

Chapeck was incorrect in his thinking that shoving IP into the parks just because the competition does it. The Disney created parks were not solely created upon their own IP but utilizing inspiration from all around them. This is what led to The Jungle Cruise (African Queen), The Golden Horseshoe (Calamity Jane), The Haunted Mansion (several movies made prior to 1969), Pirates of the Caribbean (movies, novels and real life). Disneyland (Anaheim) opened with Disney IP, most definitely, however it was not the entirety of every inch of the Park.

I remember going to Animal Kingdom and in that area there was a tent with dinosaur figures and skeletons etc. There was also a sign about a new roller coaster coming soon and I got super excited for it but it ended up just being Primeval Whirl.

Really nice video again! Was a bit annoyed when Disney announced this: I was making something very similar as a portfolio project. I saw your video on designing toy-story land. There was a glimpse of a bubble diagram. I would really like to learn more about those. At the moment I'm following a course of sorts on Immersive design. Once a week they always have a guest speaker via webcam. If you like I could maybe point classmates and alumni to this channel.

It sadly seems like we will not be getting live animals for the proposed Tropical America replacement since the core focus of Animal Kingdom was about animal conservation. Still lamenting that the dinosaur excavation elements and Beastly Kingdom never came to be in this unique park that Joe Rohde created.

So much in the parks has changed since Marty passed. Changes I don’t think would’ve happened, or turned out as they did, if Marty were still around.

Marty held us Imagineers to a high standard. To this day I stop when I’m in Disneyland to pick up trash since that’s what Marty taught me to do. Thanks for you comments, thanks for watching and if you like my channel please tell your friends.

Jim - Thanks for the narrated tour again! Tropical Americans sounds like a natural fit to this park. I liked your reference to the Mystic Manor as it being a recent home grown "IP" ... But I am a little disappointed to see Disney give up too quickly on Dinoland as since Dinosaur, there has been no future additions to bring new life to the land. After 30 years or so, trends and interest come back around in away that we are able to share these experiences with the new generation. Perhaps some fossils and remnants of Dinoland will be able to be found when Tropical Americas opens.

Great video Jim, I know Dino Land never had any animal exhibits but it would be a nice touch if they can add an indoor reptile house featuring snakes from tropical Americas, also I never understood why there is not a walking path from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Animal Kingdom Park. Any case I'm loving your insights on all these great projects!

Dino Land actually does have animals exhibits! (Albiet not very many). The American crocodile and the Asian brown tortoise are located near Triceratops Spin.

@@ChrisLucas3 I think a reptile house would be cool for Tropical Americas though. Also wonder if they’re going to move some of the Oasis animals like the anteater or macaws.

I wonder if they still have people cleaning real dinosaur bones in the location close to the play area (haven't feel the need to go to WDW in decades). I always thought that was special. Big, detailed play area's should be a standard in any theme park and I'm glad Universal keeps investing in these area's as it is a great place for kids to be active. It would be a shame if the boneyard isn't replaced by a new play area.

If there's anybody out there to help save Dinoland and give it a chance under a new theme and name for Dino-rama, refurbishing Dinosaur and an alternative of The Excavator. In the tradition of SpongeBob's Last Stand and Gloveworld R.I.P.

Do you ever see AK being completely re-themed, or the removal of the animals? Do you think it may go in that direction? I imagine the cost of the animal upkeep and the skilled professional they must have for the animals is a large cost. Been “joking” lately that they are going to replace the tree of life with a large skyscraper for the new zootopia show, even thought i am saying it facetiously, part of me fears it could be a possible future.
@jimhshull5 ай бұрын
The cost of maintaining the animals is a cost issue as is the cost for Animal Kingdom to meet the standards to be a zoo or location where animals can be housed. I don’t believe WDW will remove all animals from Animal Kingdom, however it’s likely there will be no further expansion of the animal population in exhibits at AK. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. And if you like my channel please tell your friends.
