One of my favorite early bloomers are squills, I love the quaintess of these little beauties. My crocus are a fave too, it's nice to know my local pollinators have something to work so early in the season.

Hi Amanda! Oh yes indeed squills are really lovely and early blooming crocus too. Thank you for thinking of the local pollinators. We too are bee keepers and always looking to make they have something to forage early in the spring. Happy gardening to you! Pam

Hi, thank you for uploading this video! I have a very tall, well established evergreen that covers part of my cutting garden. The cutting garden is in the front of my south west facing house. Most of the garden gets full day sun but the section under the tree gets covered later in the afternoon. I've noticed that any time I've planted tulip bulbs under the tree, they come up really short. I've also noticed that water tends to pool in that area as well. I now know not to plant tulips under the tree but before I select a partial shade bulb I'm wondering how I can improve the drainage.

Great question Cassandra! Planting flower bulbs in areas where you know the water pools is never a good idea, because, as you know the drainage is poor. Under a well-established tree it may be difficult to improve the drainage as it would require some digging and soil amendment which may disturb the tree root system. You can always dig 'pockets' of areas and amend the soil with compost and sand. Consider as well mini botanical tulips, lower growing flower bulbs such as muscari and crocus. They do not need to be planted deep and would still look quite lovely under your tree. ~Pam~
